I've been thinking about this some more and I have some honest advice for Von Klaus, because I actually liked the guy.
Instead of hyper-obsessing over the successes and failures of the Rippaverse, you should be learning lessons that you can apply to your own business.
Be excited about your own product, get people hyped, sell them on your idea. Be your own biggest cheerleader. These are basic bitch concepts that you should be aware of already.
What doesn't get people excited is promoting your Kitaru book like something you worked on a decade ago, didn't like it and reworked on it now. You sold it to people like a failed book from ages ago. Why? You already had the hurdle of not having Monica's art on this campaign. People's brains fill in the blanks with "oh, Monica was busy, he had a gap in his production so he repackaged something old to stay afloat".
Instead of being 100% autistically/factually accurate about it, sell it as something you've been working on for a long time and you are super excited for people to see.
If you want to go into detail about the process, put it in the "making of" book. Don't talk about it on launch day, don't send newsletters about it. Don't let potential customers associate it in their heads with words like "old, repackaged, lesser, failed". It has been bothering me since I first heard you talk about Kitaru.
July doesn't want customers associating Yaira with "project that didn't reach the monetary goal for statue". That's what you're accusing July of. Trying to keep his target audience hyped. That's insane.

Von being trapped in the ecosystem makes me sad because he actually knows how to write at a professional level unlike 90% of the projects being sold. His books, especially since they actually come out, should be pushed as some of the best of CG, but it's never about merit with the crowd. He needs to get out and build his own platform through Kickstarter and get a mailing list going because these books will do well over time if he can crank out 2-3 issues a year and build that way.

Von sucking up to EVS like this has been really difficult and disappointing to watch because I really like the guy: he's true blue, both as a creator and a person. I've had conversations with other people in the space and we're all like, "What is Von thinking!?" He's a major talent and should be DIVESTING from CG right now, not going BLACK MAN BAD just because Reethan might throw him a bone and pat him on the head like a good boy. Whether it's an act or if he has a genuine case of EJDS is still unclear to me.
