Games Journalism General

Wix has taken down @SmashJT's website for Kotaku Identified, a blog which tracked games journalists who moved on from Kotaku including to video game development. They've mass-reported his blog for privacy invasions, so Wix stole his domain and the archive of his entire blog.
I can see them stealing the domain and shutting down the site but apparently wix forgot that the contents of those archives are his copyrighted and legally owned material and that its a big legal no no to try to take that

If I were him i'd threaten to sue the fuck out of wix for theft of copyrighted materials

Did you know that "Wix" basically means "Jerk off" in german? I'm just saying.
Good to see i'm not the only one who caught that

Couldn't he just repost the entire stuff somewhere else? Or is that data also gone? I mean he must have local copies of it (yes here is the naive idiot speaking)
Whether he has a local copy or not its illegal for them to seize the data as its legally his copyrighted property. They're asking for trouble if they try to pull that and refuse to return it to him. Their own legal department should be pointing this out to management

Funny, when any random private individual does this the journalists lose their shit and scream privacy violation, yet when journos follow someone around doing exactly the same thing and trying to harass them for wrongthink they claim its their right as journos. Taylor lorenz comes to mind

We honestly don't have a totally stable foundation yet and there's simply too much to cover.
I'd also wonder if you actually did such a guide if the government would go after you and have it removed using some claim that terrorists or pedos or whatever trying to host illegal content would use it as a guide to help them do that and may try to take the site down with it

It’s this kind of destroying actual free speech online that anyone can read about them that actually harms not just freedom of information
I consider the exposure of wix as undependable to be a massive public service, and the "loss" here is easily tracked information.
I'm absolutely sure chatgpt could recompile the information with a simple text prompt.

SmashJT posted some of the individual parts of the Kotaku Detected page on his Twitter account.

Here is an archive of that, no links of course but to be honest a lot of this only takes a search engine search to find.

So far there are 17 people listed that were on the Kotaku Detected page, that may or may not be everyone. Only one missing I think is Levi Winslow?

Are faggots and retards arguing about video games going to gut what's left of the free internet? Or is this more a matter of the censoring faggots demonstrating how fucked things already are?

It's enough to radicalize you. I guess I'm a nazi now, and need to learn to chud.
Their is an old saying from Vietnam, "If they weren't Vietcong when we showed up they sure were by the time we left.". This is really the case with lefties. It's not about being people over profits it's about my personal preference over logic and reason and if you don't like it you're a whatever it is they don't like this week.

Oy vey.

"Wix.com Ltd. (Hebrew: וויקס.קום, romanized: wix.com) is an Israeli software company..."
Good receipts.
So was this like a revolving door situation with these journalists?
A lot of these gender studies degree “journos” find some lies to promote or some agenda to push then use some illicit drug to vomit out so many hundred words then get paid per article. All that to say is they’re not really employed or unemployed. It’s whatever huffington post or kotaku will publish the filth.

Some sites do have staff but this skeleton crew model of everyone being contractors was way cheaper.

But now there is AI so anything so any non-contractors get fired and anything but the most pandering viral clickbait is what a site will even consider paying for.

I’ll point to that recent “photography is racist” article still trying to grift on the jewish divisive cult of everything is racist as a somewhat recent example

Good find and good work, still.

I know it takes more than a few people but having a wiki or something a bit more easily consumed than a long forum thread would be invaluable.
Rational wiki but not kiked with niggerfaggotry. Or encyclopedia dramatica if it was at least as serious as the sonichu.com wiki.

Archives are good. Press releases plus archives are better.

Well I guess Wix is on the shit list.
Hmmm, lemme see what Google has to say about Wix...
> Wix.com Ltd. is an Israeli software company, publicly listed in the US, that provides cloud-based web development services.
> Wix.com Ltd. is an Israeli software company
> Israeli software company
> Israel

Every. Fucking. Time.

We are entering the "noticing things is illegal" phase of the downward spiral of society
Well, I guess I'm fucked :DDD

I'd back that idea @Null has kept this site running in an extremely hostile environment time and time again and it would be interesting getting a "How To" guide from him on the subject.
I think a lot of that information is available in his services guide. Basically you want a DNS host that won't boot you off, and a VPS host that won't boot you off. Don't give your personal info for anonymity. The interesting part that Josh has had to deal with in particular is all of the upstream stuff that I hadn't known about before. That's particularly worrisome. And that's if you want to be on the clearnet as opposed to a hidden/onion service. Hopefully I have that right, just been looking at it a bit.

It bothers me that I've written about like 90% of the people on that fucking list at some point or another for this website.

These clowns fucking get around.

The gaming industry is a dumpster fire right now cause gamers are the ultimate consumers and have 0 impulse control. Go look at the suicide squad forum on steam. "I heard this game is bad, but it's only 25 bucks so I bought it." You shouldn't fucking reward back practices period.
Dude I have multiple friends who are smart people who knew how bad Cyberpunk was and bought it, knew how bad fallout 76 was and still fucking bought it, knew how boring and mediocre Starfield was and bought it. They get burned on a game then do the same shit just a couple years later nothing is learned. Zero impulse control whatsoever just consume product and wait for next product.

In the US there's something called the Federal Superfund, an EPA program to deal with contaminated sites.

I think publications like Kotaku should be bound by a similar principle in that if they lay off all their journalists they are responsible for keeping those journalists safely contained for their natural lives rather than seeping out and contaminated other media. The best option would be to not tell them they've been laid off but just have them continue to work until retirement. AI bots could be constructed to post things like 'So true XXXD Love your work' and 'Kill yourself, lol' under their articles in order to make them think they were still being published.

As the journalists aged out and died they'd be cremated and their ashes vitrified and stored on site, in a manner very similar to nuclear waste.
