So, rough estimate, what are the ages of the oldest munchers here, esp. the ones with the fabulous combo of EDS/POTS/some gastro issue? There are so many of these young adults who have no idea how LUCKY they are to still be young and have bodies that can heal up and deal with all of the stupid shit they do. I see these posts like “I slept wrong and now my neck is on fire and it’s the damn EDS!” and it’s like, hi hello that’s just a regular Tuesday when you’re 49.

Hello, I'm a long time lurker of BP and I just finished reading all 924 pages of this thread, and ya'll got me thoroughly sucked into the Munchie rabbithole. This is officially the most fascinated I've been by a thread on this website.
One of the munchies that made me especially MATI is Abrea solely because I'm a certified horse girl. I'm sad I wasn't here to witness this in real time, because I have so many goddamn thoughts on this bitch.
I apologize if this is considered necroing but since the thread seems to be in a bit of a lull (watch as I immediately jinx it) I hope you guys won't mind some OT sperging on a nearly 9 month old writeup. I had to get these things off my chest.

I’m just gonna preface this by saying I know basically nothing about horses.

Several months later, she makes an account for Flirty who was once a show horse but was sold to Abrea at 5 years old to train as a service animal for psychiatric tasks. It is possibly the first time someone has used a horse for psychiatric tasks.
This is so stupid. Of course horses aren't used for psychiatric tasks because THEY CAN'T DO THEM. I had to google what exactly a PSD does and according to the very reputable webmd, here's the list:
  • Pick up on signs and symptoms of anxiety attacks before they start This sounds really dumb even for a service dog. Like the ones who claim their dog alerts to POTS, how the hell do they not notice an anxiety attack themselves? How can a dog predict an anxiety attack? By taking it somewhere that usually triggers anxiety attacks? Maybe don't go to those places, then.
  • Distract you during an anxiety attack so that you can calm down I mean sure, but this literally applies to every animal. All animals are good at being a calming distraction if you're having an anxiety attack. Literally feeding ducks at a pond can calm down an anxiety attack.
  • Apply physical pressure with its body to help calm you down The last thing you want to teach a horse is to think it's appropriate to apply pressure on you. A mini leaning on you might not be the same thing as a Clydesdale, but they're still a horse with horse psychology.
Horse social hierarchy is based on who pushes who/who controls whose movement. Example scenario: you watch a herd of horses out in the paddock, horse A is drinking from the trough. Horse B approaches the trough to have a drink of their own, and horse A immediately gives up their spot for horse B. Therefore, horse B is higher on the totem pole, because they made horse A move. If horse A was higher, they'd warn them to BTFO and not give up their spot, and horse B would immediately be like "okay that's fine sorry I'll come back here when you're done". Here's a good video explaining this.
You don't want a horse to push you in any way not just because it's physically dangerous, but because it teaches them that they're above you on the social ladder. It's important to establish clear boundaries and position yourself as the 'lead horse'.
  • Warn others to give you space I mean, horses will warn you to stay away if you're a stranger and get too close, but they're doing it out of self preservation (PREY ANIMALS FFS). Even if you do train a horse to 'protect you' watch this video and tell me if this is the kind of behavior you'd want to encourage against HUMANS.
  • Get your medication during an anxiety attack Whatever, you can train a horse to fetch. You can train a fucking rat to fetch.
  • Give you a sense of safety with their presence See #2
  • Alert others for help if they sense that you’re in danger See #4

Now we have moved entirely to the Flirty account. She lives in an apartment with the horse.
Look, I love horses, my whole life is dedicated to taking care of them, and I've seen some gnarly things to put it mildly and none of the unpleasantries particularly bother me. With that being said I'd NEVER live with a horse. It's a biohazardous nightmare waiting to happen, as we all clearly saw from the rest of the absolutely fucking insane footage of their living conditions.

And claiming she has "pretty much all the same tasks as a psychiatric service dog"
Lmao (X) Doubt. See the list of tasks above.

I don’t understand the bath pics people post on social media. But can you train a horse like you do a dog? I know horse people say they’re super smart and you have this intense bond but like, I just feel like they're so extremely different from dogs and therefore it stands to reason they can't do everything dogs do and vice versa.
You can train horses to do some pretty impressive things, but again, RATS EXAMPLE. You can train them hundreds of tricks and they genuinely bond with you which is impressive considering their lifespan is only like 2 years. Dogs are animals but not all animals are dogs, and part of the reason shit like this makes me so MATI is because most people are so uneducated and/or straight up stupid, they think dog behavior and dog logic applies to all animals. Even a 40iq bumpkin can look at a scared dog and recognize it's scared, but any other animal (cats included but to a much lesser degree) can be shamelessly abused in front of a public audience and said audience will clap their hands like retard seals, because the animal isn't showing stereotypical dog discomfort so it must be ok with this!

The horse needs a rope tied around her ass to pull her up the stairs because otherwise she doesn't understand and refuses to try. But she's totally going to learn to wake Abrea up from night terrors and fetch medications for her!
Horrible abusive training. You see this shit all the time with trailer training. Lazy 'trainers' can't be bothered to slowly build up a horse's confidence, so they tie ropes around its ass to physically force it to load the trailer. That's not training, that's literally just forcing an animal to do something and teaching it learned helplessness. Others ITT have already explained extensively about how dangerous stairs are for horses so I won't repeat their points.

...the horse alerts to headaches lmaoooo. The horse does that lip curl thing they do when they’re trying to understand a smell and 15 minutes later Abrea gets a headache which means she was totally alerting to the scent of bad headache chemicals! Or your horse is telling you to take a shower.
Horses also lip curl (called "flehmen response" or "flehming") when they're in pain or anxious/uncomfortable. Not saying that's necessarily what's happening here, just food for thought.

So yeah the real reason Abrea needed a service horse was that she was already a weird horse girl and found a way to bring horses with her everywhere.

Oh lawd that's one fat horse. Not horribly obese but definitely overweight. I understand that she says she hasn't ridden him in 2 years, but regardless of exercise you still control his diet.
Diet notwithstanding, here's some other REVOLUTIONARY and RADICAL ideas:
  • Exercise him doing ground work. You don't have to be on the back of the horse to work them.
  • Lease him to someone who will ride him when you can't. This is a great solution because it also means you split the upkeep costs with the lessee.
  • Sell him.
The horse pees in the shavings and then sleeps in the peepee shavings.
Normal horse behavior. What isn't normal is living with that 24/7.

Isn’t it a profoundly bad idea to give horses people food? Like that is the one thing I know about horses: their digestive systems are retarded and if they get a tummy ache they could die.
YES

Isn’t this just what horses do when you hold out your hand because there might be food?
Horses explore the world with their muzzle. That's why if you show them anything their first instinct is to stick their nose in it (which is funny considering Abrea literally acknowledges this a few posts down the line). Also yes, most definitely expecting treats.

Am I wrong in my assumption that young healthy horses need a shitload of exercise? and that Flirty is not getting nearly enough?
Nope. Yep.

As I said the horse has a paddock kind of but it’s tiny and not secure and Abrea needs her horsie in the house to alert to everything and make the bad feelings go bye bye, so the horse only goes outside for short periods when the weather is decent. Also if the horse gets wet or muddy like if it suddenly starts raining, she can't bring it places until she has time to groom it properly so if there's even a chance of rain the horse stays inside. All of this just sounds so inconvenient for both human and horse.
Abysmal conditions, including what we see in later parts of the full space of this 'paddock'. Minis need AT MINIMUM half an acre of pasture, and even that's pushing it. All horses need turnout, keeping a horse stalled 24/7 is a surefire way to irreparably fuck them up.

Using the same brush on yourself and your horse: normal horse people behavior?
Absolutely not, ew. Lots of horse people will use their old hairbrushes on horses because why throw something away if you can find use for it still, but brushing your own hair with the same brush you use on your horse is insane.

This is so weird for me. If a dog was doing this I’d be like “yeah that’s what dogs do, your hand is salty also they love you and it’s a sign of submission and also licking releases endorphins that make them feel all warm and fuzzy” but idk, I think it’s normal for horses to lick and mouth people’s hands like this too? A few times she mentions that their lips are super sensitive and dextrous and this is how they explore and understand their environment
Fatty McFat Fat probably had Cheeto dust on her fingers. Horses lick my palms all the time after I feed them an apple because there's still some juice left on them. What she says about their lips is correct and I even mentioned it earlier, but this just seems like the horse tasted food residue.

training the horse to pull her in a wheelchair. Again, her mobility issue is plantar fasciitis. Also the idea of a service horse is so foreign to me that I keep having to stop myself from saying "she's training the dog to do x"
Oh wow, a task minis can actually perform! Wouldn't it be easier to just like... get a wheelchair?...

isn’t she just… playing?
Yep.

uh. Don't the giant wide open eyes mean this horse is spooked as hell?
Wide eyes + other signs such as tensing, especially in the mouth and eyes. And this looks like a pretty tense horse to me.

Flirty is hurty and now one of her legs locks up and gets stuck. Abrea keeps working her anyway and insists this is not a big deal, it doesn’t hurt, it happens all the time and will heal on its own. Okay I know nothing about this, if it's painful or scary or dangerous for the animal. I just know as non horse people if I saw someone working a horse - any animal - in this state, I would be calling the relevant authorities to report you for abuse. What the fuck task could this animal conceivably perform when she can’t even fucking walk? I really don't care if exercise is the solution to fixing this. You can take her for a nice little horsie walk in a field.
Locking stifles doesn't have a clear cut understood cause the same way colic does, but you know what is known to definitely cause it? Poor physical condition and lack of exercise.

She’s still riding Cadenza the dressage horse. She probably shouldn’t be. I don’t know what the loadbearing capacity of a dressage horse is but I feel like it’s less than one Abrea.
Others mentioned the 20% rule, so for reference an AQH weighs around 1200lbs. 20% of that would be 240lbs, which includes tack. I'm not that good at estimating people's weight from eyeballing, but something tells me Abrea weighs more than 240lbs. Also, Cadenza is looking very out of shape.

Uh oh, Flirty has impaction colic, a potentially life threatening gastrointestinal problem. The horse that couldn’t hold her bowels and had to shit in a bucket in Abrea’s room now can’t shit at all and might die from it. They pipe oil into her.
You know what's known to cause impaction colic? Poor physical condition and lack of exercise. Crazy how her horse keeps falling ill with all these conditions that are well known to be triggered by a poor physical condition and lack of exercise/movement.

Don’t horses survive in like siberian winters? Have I been lied to by nerd media that taught me horses are very cold tolerant?
It depends on the breed, and even then it's on a case to case basis. An average horse will be fine in typical cold weather so long as they grow a winter coat and the temperature isn't too insane, but there are breeds that can definitely survive subzero temperatures such as the Icelandic. Check out the floof on those things!

In conclusion, excluding therapy riding, horses and especially minis can be good for therapy. But of the "visits cancer kids in the hospital for 3 hours once a week to cheer them up" variety, not the "I must take my horse with me to Walmart to prevent panic attacks" kind. There's literally no good reason to get a mini over a dog as a service animal, as has been proven time and again throughout KFS's timeline. The people who use seeing eye horses instead of dogs because they genuinely can't own a dog for whatever reason are incredibly disadvantaged compared to people with dogs.

Also like many pointed out, Flirty looks exceptionally good for a mini with good temper too, evident by the fact she was a literal show horse (4th place in WC, no less). And 5 years old is the BEGINNING of a horse's prime years. There's no way someone sold her to Abrea at an affordable price, there must be something wrong with her that made her unviable as a broodmare or even a show horse for her to be thrown away so brazenly. Was there ever even an explanation as to how and why she went from prospect world champion to a random backwater fatty's emotional support animal?

Munchies who rage about people trying to compliment them is a whole other level of victimizing LOL
View attachment 4912826
Who is this chick? That was literally a a nice compliment.. She says she has a "medical team" Yeah 🥴🙄🙄

Much appreciation to those who have dug through and found relevant info on the munchies, it must take an awfully long time!

Quite often I stumble across someone suspicious on instagram and they usually have the typical dancer/ED/rich kid past. The onset of their supposed illnesses is always very fast and within a year they have conned their way into multiple speshul zebra diagnosis’s and often some spoonie props. Can’t forget the occasional gymnastic picture in among the multiple hospital stays either!

I have noticed that there is one type of anorexia that lives for the attention, there’s no hiding of their “fat” bodies at all; this type thrives from the theythinkimdyinglmao attention. This type usually goes on to become a full blown munchie, or binges their way to obesity and still tries to cling to an AN diagnosis.

It does make me wonder how such body focused individuals, ED and sport fuelled, can be okay with literally maiming their bodies with unnecessary surgeries and tubes? And then then add medication & eating along side tube feed weight gain and it’s even more bizarre to me.

It’s difficult enough getting your GP to take you seriously here in the UK, it must take a lot of research and doctor shopping to find the quack who’ll gladly do it all for your sweet sweet cash over in the states.

Delusion and attention must be some fabulous drugs. And we can’t forget the nectar of the gods- Benadryl.
These US munchies get Medicaid and get on disability and get on Medicare. They don't spend a penny, but it's okay cause eventually Medicaid (Medicaid catches on pretty quickly, Medicaid is our state insurance here, we don't have to pay for anything medical) and they'll take it away and do not pay for any of it.

I can’t edit my own post for some reason so just to clarify
excluding therapy riding
By which I mean therapy riding is actually patently beneficial and not dubious like a “psychiatric service horse”. Should’ve worded it better whoops

(Mods since you see this automatically, I’d really appreciate it if you add this edit at the end/after the therapy riding mention in the post itself, and just delete this post to declutter)

I can't get a number on JanJan's age but it's probably either her or Lena Dunham.

And nobody seems to pay attention to JanJan anymore. I guess she aged out of the sickfluencer community.

horse girl autism literally no one asked for.
lmao @ this spoiler tag when ~ half of the things you quoted were me asking a direct question hoping someone had an answer.

This was an awesome necro (if there even is such a thing in an omnibus thread) and confirmed nearly all of my weird gut feelings about how this is very bad for the horse and of no real benefit to the human.

Fun little one-off from Canada. Maybe it's confirmation bias and I'm just paying better attention, but there seem to be more of these cases than pre-pandemic.

CBC Investigates: Manitoba doctor accused of defrauding another physician by faking cancer, lying to college

Screenshot 2024-05-27 165232.png

Monica Kehar expelled from residency, not licensed to practise but still allowed to call herself a doctor. [She] was expelled from the University of Manitoba residency program in 2020 and censured by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba after an investigation.

When Dr. Meaghan Labine met Monica Kehar in 2018, they almost instantly became friends.

The two women had been elected to sit on the national body representing the College of Family Physicians of Canada and appeared to have a lot in common.

Both had gone to medical school and were doing their residencies to become family doctors. Labine was at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine in Thunder Bay, while Kehar was at the University of Manitoba.

But within about eight months in 2019 and 2020, Labine was out $160,000 after Kehar asked her for financial help following her diagnosis with cancer.

When the cancer proved to be fake, Kehar seemed to disappear into thin air.

"My heart just dropped," Labine said in an interview with CBC News from her home in Thunder Bay. "All I thought was, I've been played. Like, I felt like an idiot."

Expelled, censured

For the past four years, Labine has been on a mission to track Kehar down and bring her former friend to justice. She even hired a private investigator to try to locate her.

Kehar was censured by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba in 2020 and expelled from her medical program after they found she had fabricated evidence of a non-existent serious medical condition.

The expulsion meant she couldn't practise medicine in Canada, but a CBC News investigation found Kehar moved to British Columbia and started an electrical muscle stimulation company — and called herself an MD.

Under Canada's medical regulatory system, even though Kehar is not licensed to practise medicine, she is allowed to call herself an MD or doctor, as long as she is not providing health care or implying she is entitled to practise medicine.

MD is the abbreviation for a doctor of medicine degree, which Kehar has, even though she didn't finish her medical residency and isn't licensed to practise medicine.

An expert in the field says this is misleading and dangerous to the public.

"People are being deceived," said Timothy Caulfield, a University of Alberta professor in the faculty of law and school of public health.

"I'm really concerned with the degree to which the phrase or the word or the title doctor is being used."

Started with cancer claim

CBC News has emailed and spoken to Kehar over the phone for weeks. She would not do an interview or provide comment for this story.

Shortly after Labine and Kehar first met, Kehar stopped attending their College of Family Physicians meetings and no one seemed to know what had happened to her. Labine sent her a text but didn't hear back.

Then out of the blue Kehar replied.

"Oh, Meaghan, thanks for reaching out. I've been having a really hard time. I got this diagnosis of breast cancer, and I haven't been supported by my university," is how Labine paraphrased Kehar's text.

'Seemed legitimate'

Eventually Kehar told her she had been accepted into a residency program at the University of Calgary and had moved to Alberta, she said.

"Her story up to that point seemed legitimate," Labine said.

Not long after that, Kehar started asking Labine for money.

"She needed some help for the day, just to find a place to stay. So that was where it started," Labine said.

Kehar's first ask was for $500, but over the course of eight months, the tally grew by tens of thousands of dollars.

Dr. Meaghan Labine says she lent Monica Kehar over $160,000 after Kehar told Labine she had breast cancer and needed help. Labine has been trying to recoup the money ever since. (Marc)
Labine drew up contracts that Kehar signed, committing to paying her back.

"It just seemed like no matter how much I lent, it was never enough," Labine said.

Labine continued to lend Kehar money because she thought if she didn't help her finish medical school, she would never get her money back.

Kehar told her the money was coming and even sent her an email proving she had a job offer from an established doctor, Labine said.

But when Labine ran into that doctor at a meeting for the College of Family Physicians of Canada, the doctor had never heard of Monica Kehar.

That is the moment when Labine knew she had been played, she said.

"I felt absolutely humiliated," she said. "How could I be so stupid as to be led on like this?"

This photo of Monica Kehar was taken from a blog post advertising her electrical muscle stimulation company Prestige Body Lab. (https://vieamaggi.com/lifestyle/prestige-body-lab/)
Labine later learned Kehar had taken money from others, too, so she contacted the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba, which is the licensing body for doctors in this province.

She's now out $162,020 and has no idea if she will ever get it back.

In July 2022, Labine won a default judgment against Kehar in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice but hasn't received a penny back. She recently filed a lawsuit against Kehar in B.C. to try to recoup the money.

According to court records, Kehar has a history of not paying some of her bills.

An April 2019 decision by the Manitoba Residential Tenancies Branch says she breached an agreement with her Winnipeg landlord and was ordered to move out.

A further decision by Residential Tenancies says she had abandoned her apartment and her items were to be sold at a public auction.

Expelled by U of M

Court records also show in 2018, Kehar got into an accident in Winnipeg with an uninsured vehicle. MPI sued her for $1,318.09 and won, because she didn't show up at court.

In May 2019, she was sued by high interest lender AAR Financial for $7,732.17 for an unpaid debt. The court garnisheed her wages from the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, but she was no longer employed there, the WRHA said.

Kehar was investigated by the University of Manitoba for altering emails and faking a serious illness to get her medical colleagues to lend her a substantial amount of money.

She was eventually expelled from residency and censured by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba, which did its own investigation.

Kehar initially claimed someone hacked her account and altered the email in question but later admitted to doing it herself due to "a brief episode of mental exhaustion."

Timothy Caulfield, a University of Alberta professor in the faculty of law and school of public health, says there needs to be better regulation of how unlicensed doctors are allowed to advertise themselves. (Sam Martin/CBC)
She appealed her expulsion twice in 2019 and told the university's local discipline committee that she had a serious health condition for which she underwent surgery. She provided the College of Physicians and Surgeons with a letter purportedly written by the office manager of her surgeon's clinic, confirming she underwent a procedure.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba censure said the letter Kehar provided to the college had been written years earlier and was altered to "align with the false story."

Kehar eventually admitted that she misrepresented the timing and nature of her procedure and falsified the letter to corroborate that.

She also acknowledged that she lied to two of her medical colleagues about her personal circumstances and health to garner support, and that they had loaned her "substantial sums of money in response to requests from her for assistance on multiple occasions."

Her expulsion from her residency was upheld.

Expelled Manitoba doctor accused of defrauding colleague by faking cancer to borrow $160K

An investigation by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba found that Monica Kehar pretended to have a serious medical condition in order to get colleagues to lend her a substantial amount of money.
The College of Physicians and Surgeons found her actions to be "particularly egregious, unacceptable and unprofessional conduct for a member of the medical profession." The censure was posted online to "fulfil the college's public protection mandate."

Kehar is not authorized to practise medicine in Manitoba or anywhere in Canada but she is still allowed to call herself a doctor because she has a medical degree.

Kehar calls herself doctor in B.C.

CBC located Kehar in British Columbia, where she's been living since at least March 2021.

She registered a company called Prestige Body Lab in Vancouver, which has since closed.

On social media and on business cards, the business says: "M.D. provided Electrical Muscle Stimulation" and "first session guaranteed two-five inch loss or no charge."

"She basically grew her business by influencer marketing," social media influencer Gina Judge said in an interview with CBC News.

Judge said she had a good experience working with Kehar and received free services in exchange for honest testimonials.

A competing business lodged a complaint against Prestige with the Fraser Health Authority, raising concerns that Kehar was representing herself as a doctor, Judge said.

A 2021 post from Prestige Body Lab advertises that people can book a free MD consultation. (Instagram/prestigebodylab)
The College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia says individuals who obtain a medical degree are allowed to call themselves doctor or indicate they have an MD, even if they are not actively practising medicine.

"They may not, however, imply or mislead the public into thinking that they are licensed to practise medicine," the college said in an email to CBC News.

Fraser Health confirmed it received a complaint about the business but wouldn't confirm the nature of the complaint, only that it was "investigated and resolved in accordance with our regular process."

University of Alberta Prof. Timothy Caulfield has serious concerns about the rules around unlicensed physicians calling themselves doctors.

"There's so much health misinformation out there. There's so many fraudsters out there, and I think the public needs some clarity when someone uses the title doctor. I would like it to mean something," Caulfield said.

It's deceptive and could be harmful in cases where doctors who have lost their licence promote supplements or give free advice on a host of medical issues, he said.

Business cards posted on the Facebook page for Prestige Body Lab advertise that services are MD provided. (Facebook/Prestige Body Lab)
"You know, when they see that, that title doctor, they assume often, especially in the health space, that they are medical doctors, that they're licensed medical doctors, and are surprised when they find out that's not the case," Caulfield said.

"So it's very misleading."

He wants to see tighter rules in Canada about who can use the title doctor, suggesting that only practising doctors be allowed to refer to themselves as such. Physicians who have retired or lost their licence should have to indicate they are unlicensed, he said.

In April, Kehar spoke with CBC reporters on the phone, but she refused to be interviewed for the story.

Labine says Kehar reached out to her after being contacted by CBC, and told her she would pay her back.

"There were many inconsistencies in her story that were similar to years prior, which makes me doubtful of her intention," Labine said.

She alleges Kehar is being extremely evasive and trying to avoid the story by agreeing to pay back what she owes.

"When pressed for specifics or meeting with my lawyer, she provides nothing," Labine said.

Speaking of Jan Jan, it appears she and Paul split up. This is now the description of her YouTube channel.

Lmao at mentioning chronic illness twice in the first two sentences.

Does Paul still have Crohn's, though??? How will we ever know now, I'm devastated.

ed: hope how

I expect her to ramp back up with the munching now. Probably by-proxy the daughter too. I wonder why they split. Paul's actual shitty-bum-disease too taxing and attention stealing for her probably.

Paul Ibertis and Janiece Aquino. I'm not sure where they live, but the Orlando area lines up.
1716960980632.png
I'm certain this is him. He also has another red light run in Osceola 'cause I guess you just cant stop when that Chron's hitzz. There is no dissolution of marriage filed by him or against him.

With the video JanJan posted of Paul getting discharged from the hospital where he looks out the window, he was in Orlando Regional Medical Center.

That was five months ago. Unless they somehow moved and then got divorced in another county during that time they're still married. Not sure what's going on here.
