I think she might believe she would be going home to her kids. The kids went to her family so it’s not as bad as the anonymous foster care nightmare. They will also go visit the kids, regardless if there is a court order not too, and the relatives will allow it.
One of the reasons some kids with extended family end up in non-familial foster care is because the family allow the abusive parent(s) unsupervised visits or take the kids, and they get caught, so then they have to go to non-familial care.
Kayla might be hoping the arrest is actually the end of her personal nightmare. Maybe now Nick will turn back into her husband of a decade ago.
