He suspended habeas corpus so he could imprison citizens without cause indefinitely.

But even his administration and the Johnson administration did not prosecute the confederate leadership. Davis was released without going to trial because the government was pretty sure they were going to lose their case on treason and secession (because secession was not illegal yet. it was only made so post-war).

think about that. leadership of a rebelling part of the USA, people who actually did what the left accuses Donald trump of doing experienced a better and more sound judicial system that Trump is now.

There were politicians at the time who would of loved to prosecute Confederate leadership in a serious way but Lincoln and Johnson generally both preferred reconciliation and amnesty in order to heal the country as fast and as effectively as possible. By comparison Trump probably won't be able to find a prominent Democrat today who would hold such a stance even though it could contribute to creating less nationwide division in the long-term.

That always happens in a heavily contested competition. The leftists won this fight. The people writing about it are interrogating it, and want to argue because it looks like bullshit to them (and was), but the liberals just want to celebrate. The real issue is that what you see as nothing is actually instability entering the system. Once a crack is formed its hard to remove and those cracks overtime can easily lead to the whole thing collapsing. The final crack can be today or decades from now, but know that when that moment does happen, it starts just like this.
