Since Rags came up, I just realized that Arch's audience doesn't like him very much.

Turns out, some kind of incident happened during their D&D stream.

Here's the part where Vee loses it. They have a group of Orcs they need to take to a king. Rags says he wants the orcs bathed before they meet the king, but they should do this without making the orcs angry. Vee proposes telling the orcs that they need to undergo a the bathing as a ritual before they can meet the king. Sargon starts laughing at him, Rags pokes fun at him, and Vee starts raging.

Autism personified :story:

Well as I said, The Killers is a classic, more to the traditional Heroic Bloodshed than Hard Boiled, there is also A Better Tomorrow, also by Woo, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon though I would hope that is not so obscure as to need a recommendation. Ip Man is nice, and that is a more recent one, if you can overlook the commie historical revisionism in it. Donnie Yen is the last remnant of that old scene. I will admit it has been a while since I went into them so I can't really give much beyond what I have watched recently, so I will cosign 1, 4, 5 and 7. I do plan on going through some other non-Woo films after I get to watching the Hanzo the Razor trilogy and Ran. I will also recommend Beat Takeshi's films, got into them recently via Violent Cop. Not as much action but they do have a nice energy to them.
I definitely need to check out Woo's other heroic bloodshed films. Ip Man is kickass I watch those films for the action only. Very disappointed to find out that like Chan, Donnie has a position in Communist China's political office but it is what it is. Thanks for the recommendations

The only person I think likely to have seen a HK film is Critical Drinker. I have hope that he has seen some HK action films, how could he have not? Please let me be right so I can still have some hope in this world.
Drinker probably has but the problem is when people watch HK films, they watch only John woo or wong kar wai. Not to sound too faggy but I feel like if you are closer to the surface on the popular movie iceberg, that's just a pretense unless there's genuity which in the case of online personalities like the drinker I don't think there is. If you see like Wu-Tang clan they're corporate sellouts but they're at least genuine in their admiration of media properties, to online personalities media is just a vehicle to parade them around, not the opposite.
It is part of the consistent criticisms of the "Fandom Menace" or "Fellowship" or whatever faggy shit they call themselves. They have a huge blind spot for "foreign" cinema, especially Eastern Asian. I swear at this point the only movies/tv I watch that is newer than the new 10's is East Asian historical dramas. I recommend the 2010 Three Kingdoms if you are interested in some good long tv series. Be warned, it is very Chinese s
One of the biggest problems with online media criticism is trend chasing which I guess is an occupational hazard at this point. People carve out niches for themselves but they tend to chase trends really hard, even if they present themselves as supposed dissidents. The only people I have seen who dont do this is thealmightyloli and probably weekend warrior. EFAGs don't just fall into the same trap, they actively embrace it as part of their brand like most people do which is weird when they present themselves as dissidents. So they're just the other side of the moviebob coin, they're just equal and opposite, equally consoomer equally incompetent equally unknowledgeable and equally stupid. As insulting as this is, even Jack saint and Eric Taxxon have better knowledge of the media landscape than any of the core EFAGs even if their assertions and conclusions are ridiculously stupid. I doubt Mauler and Rags know anything outside their little echochamber of hip consoomer shit, Rags will say Duellists and Kingdom once or twice but that doesn't mean shit. It sucks a lot more when you realise that foreign cinema has better acting blocking presentation and storytelling than anything from the US and UK, the latter are just good at flashy effects and dialogue.

Speaking of Donnie Yen, both Flash Point and Kill Zone are some "newer" (I think early 2000s) Hong Kong action films that I enjoyed.
Should just turn this into a film recommendation thread given that EFAG is so utterly dull that yesterday's (the day before that?) stream hasn't even been posted here to be ignored and not discussed. God knows that they aren't making any worthwhile movie recommendations.

I believe the highlight channel is run by Wolf, the mentally ill furry who used to be a co-host on early EFAP and temporarily left the internet after being accused of discord grooming.
I was thinking it'd be funny if it was like the yms highlights and some furfag ran it and then I read the next message and it turns out it is, at least this one doesn't shove their big titted fursona into the videos

Funny thing is, I had just become a new fan of Red Letter Media. It's like RLM is the yin to EFAP's yang.

As the token movie recommender for my friends and family, I can tell you that its a difficult thing cause you never know what people like except through association. I stopped looking into movies that much after I started working 2 years ago but the way I always recommended to normies was to ask for a required release date, region and genre to be a bit of an absolutist. I cannot recommend based on similarity unless its a video game, Im sick of people telling me "give me something like Joker or The Avengers", movies just dont work that way. Joker is not the same as Taxi Driver or Death Wish, Point Break is not like Three Days of the Condor or All the Presidents Men, no two movies are similar beyond aesthetics unless theyre remakes or based on the same source material.

Be warned, it is very Chinese so you will have to get used to it.
And also it has 12 musical tracks and you'll hear all of them every 3 episodes, that music that plays everytime Lu Bu and Diaochan are being sappy at each other is now burnt into my brain.

I don't think that any of them are adventurous enough to actually watch interesting films unless they're things that everybody else in their general sphere has already seen. Mauler somehow hadn't even seen an episode of Star Trek until a year ago, what makes you think that he'll watch a film that needs subtitles?

How do you talk about Star Trek's writing without having seen it for yourself?
He never really talked about Star Trek until recently, it being missing from the EFAP recommendation list had me assuming that he never watched it and I was right on the money.

The theme is pretty great though, I can sing it from memory at this point (I cannot speak Mandarin). Eastern Asians really love their generic musical stings, even in their theatre they do it. That said it is worth it if you are a Cao Cao respecter.

Not even TNG or DS9, just nothing! I think that was the point where I realized that this fucking guy and his hanger ons are a bunch of frauds. I will reiterate: he still hasn't played KotOR, and has the temerity to talk about Star Wars "growing up" or whatever, not even getting into the Thrawn Trilogy, Tales of the Jedi comics, or the greatest Star Wars story even: KotOR 2.

The problem with EFAP overall is this.
They started off as Drunken Peasants for consoomers.
It was purely a "laugh at retarded media related videos" group.
Then however, they got a bunch of fanboys and I think that made them believe their own hype.
In reality they're the most mainstream type of media nerds.
They like IPs and universes, they don' give a fuck about original ideas unless an original idea is a big hit.

I got recommended Critical Drinker recommending Attack on Titan....
tumblr_oz3vqgEKoS1qg39ewo1_500.gif

Everyone has seen this fucking thing, even the normies.
Those who haven't seen have heard about it from 12 other people already.
Where the fuck have you been?
This is their level of media knowledge, they're amateurs.

This is why I find Drinker's recommendation of Godzilla Minus One as part of this trend chasing. The Godzilla IP has a rich history along with the filmography of Ishirō Honda, but he chooses the most recent Godzilla entry from Japan because it was getting high praise. Also, looking at the "Recommends" playlist, I saw Drinker includes Everything Everywhere All At Once, which was Hollywood pandering to the Asian market :story:

When you talk about Godzilla online, you have to mention two things, Tokusatsu and Kaiju. Without these two things, anybody who talks about Godzilla is just a trend chaser. Drinker is just a failed ChannelAwesome type who failed upwards unlike moviebob who crashed and burned (this is true btw, he auditioned for ChannelAwesome in 2010 as a drunk angry film reviewer, his audition tapes are available on his patreon. Imagine what that kind of world that wouldve been).

Hearing Vee screech at Rags like that was very embarassing, however everything he said was on point. Rags is fucking insufferable, and I hate how he's never called out for his obnoxious smugness on EFAP. He's such a fucking faggot it makes me sick.

Kill All Dogfuckers. Smash a Dogfucker's head in with a crowbar. Curbstomp a Dogfucker. Inject a Dogfucker with drain cleaner. Set Dogfuckers on fire. Shoot Dogfuckers into the sun. Enslave Dogfuckers and make them work the fields. Slowly peel a Dogfucker's skin off. Infect a Dogfucker with ebola and drop him in the dessert. Gas Dogfuckers. Mutilate Dogfuckers. Feed a Dogfucker his own cock and watch him bleed out. String a Dogfucker up to a tree and cover him in fire-ants. Pour acid down a Dogfuckers throat. Catfish a Dogfucker, lead him to a backalley and stab him 47 times. Run over Dogfuckers with your car. Push a Dogfucker off a cliff. Cut a Dogfucker's head off with a rusty knife. Decimate Dogfuckers. Eviscrate Dogfuckers.

Getting back to Mauler himself. I notice when he’s faced with what he considers illogical character decisions he doesn’t try to come up with sensical reasons why they were made. Which I think is bad criticism.

He considers that to be writing for the characters and doing the job for the writers; and that coming up with explanations that aren't explicitly stated in the film is grasping at straws to defend the movie.

This is another sign that efap would absolutely flounder if they tried to discuss a more avant garde/ artsy film; as a lot of what happens isn't spelled out to the viewer.
