Very late to the party. A few thoughts:

1. Early Congrats Nick on winning Lolcow of the Year 2024! You earned it, dipshit.

2. Youtube corner is going to be very awkward at Anime Matsuri this year (August). Nick is the biggest sign yet that it doesn't really pay to be in business with degenerates longterm if you're a "serious" streamer. I'm curious if Kurt will appear again anyway with his geographic proximity to try to "network". If Eric July attends again without Nick being present, it'll be funny af imo.

3. LOL Nick actually tried to represent himself, wife AND April. What a fucking lunatic control freak. It's certainly not out of charity to either of them, because the last thing Nick should be doing in his current state is lawyering himself, much less other people.

4. I do not "like" Kayla as I do not fucking know her and I have no personal investment in her welfare. That said, common sense would dictate she needs to get as far away from her husband as feasibly possible until she's clean at least, but I wouldn't be surprised if they need to separate. I suspect we won't know her true state of mind until she's able to disconnect from the situation.

5. Nick thinks he can control everything and apparently his "solution" was to drug everyone around him and indoctrinate them to his way of thinking. Perhaps that extended to the kids' lifestyle. The last thing they need is to have every aspect of their education managed by their parents and thankfully some weren't fully homeschooled and got help.

I believe the drugs played a role in keeping the power balance in the household to his liking (since he's buying for everyone...) and it could make sense against the timeline: 1) He lost his face online and the unquestioned adoration of his fanbase. 2) Increasingly surrounding himself with alcohol, drugs and enablers as a shield since he was halfway there with self-medication anyway 3) Hours of copestreaming which put his internal fragility on full display as he drank himself to oblivion and telling us "It was the alcohol that said that!" "I don't remember anything!".

6. Encouraging Kayla to indulge in the drugs and pills makes more sense and might be intentional as she can't claim she's "better" than him, therefore taking her down with him. That's what makes it particularly disgusting he would then REPRESENT HER in a court of law. When HE is the one who paid for the drugs and enabled her problems. But remember, Kayla has to be "fixed", etc... and remember, Nick can fix everything! A real handyman.

As funny as it would have been for Fischer to have been the presiding judge, this is why I'm glad this happened. It eliminates those grounds for appeal based on personal animus.

Although I'm sure Judge Fischer knows who the lawpope is at this point, I bet she barely remembers the issue that Rekieta had with her. She's a practicing judge, hearing cases day in, day out, every day for years. I'm sure there are minor quibbles and complaints every single day. They just won't be significant to her.

Rekieta, on the other hand, was an utter failure as a lawyer. Couldn't get a client to save his life. Managed to scrape up a tiny number of cases, most of which he did pro bono because that was the only way he could get any court time at all. Obviously, the tiny number of interactions he had with judges would stick in his mind because they were so few and far between. Nonetheless, he made sure to trot them all out as stories for the suckers who bought his larp. But if he hadn't been the biggest screw up in the county in the whole of Judge Fischer's career, I'm sure he wouldn't be on her radar at all. Life is too short for busy people to be worrying about insignificant bullshit.
