Starfield - Bethesda's new space IP: will probably be full of fun and easily trackable bugs

How do you think Starfield will turn out?

It's the best game Microsoft has released this gen

So...not really. Bethesda haters overstate how bad it is, Bethesda lovers ignore how mediocre it is. If you're into it, you're into it. But more than likely you won't be so unless you already have Gamepass it's probably best to pass on it.

I wonder how the loot system and the modifiers work. Sometimes the game gives me tons of rare and legendary knives even though I never play melee, it gets worse when a gun has a melee effect. I wish I could change the effects at the workbench.
I figured it was level based, but on this playthrough the game gave me an Advanced Urban Eagle in the 2nd quest which does like 140 damage when everything else was cracking like 15 tops. Even the best Shotgun at that point was only like 43 damage I think.

So apparently it is pretty fucking random...until it isn't, because I've noticed that Abandoned UC Outpost dungeons that are proc gen'd always have two Advanced...Rifles (I forgot the name) that are insanely OP at early to mid game.

It’s way more depressing when you put it that way

Are they going to release modding tools for the game at all? It’s first year since launch is quickly approaching and I haven’t read anything about it (then again, haven’t been looking for Starfield news)

Rumors are that the CK is going to be the big announcement for the showcase and the big "release" for this Summer leading up to Shattered Space in Fall.

But that's just rumor. So who knows? The CK exists, though, as it's been confirmed that their favorite Creation Club modders are currently using it to build the first wave of (probably paid) CC content for Starfield as a "beta test".

Can't release mod tools without first releasing at least one round of CC content. Wouldn't want the players to get any funny ideas.

Some of us believe that the real reason for the delay is because they don't want someone outside the Bethesda bubble to release a rover/buggy before them.

I've also seen some people theorize it's so someone doesn't fix the games proc gen issues before they can. Which is funny because even without the CK kit Desolation exists and takes a pretty decent crack at it.

The lack of evil or even morally grey companions really hurts role-playing here.

Very rarely do I play an outright evil PC but pragmatic mercenary is an archetype I run often in Bethesda games and that's flat out impossible here.

All the human followers have the morality of a good aligned paladin.

Steal - Lose affinity
Start fight - Lose affinity
Murder someone- Lose affinity
Mean dialogue choice- Lose affinity
Ask for extra reward- Lose affinity

They are comically righteous, at least in Fallout 4 if your sole Survivor was more of an asshole you could run Cait or Strong, here you have to run either the boring robot or go it solo.

I don't know.
I always play being somewhat morally good (which isn't murder anything in my path) but always asking for the best rewards in quests.

I like doing a neutral good playthrough then a balls out evil playthrough, which is almost impossible on Starfield.

Griffin, Castillo, Adoring Fan and Vasco all won't give you shit for doing bad stuff.

I think Ezekiel and Lyle are pretty lax on following rules as well. I think most of the non-constellation companions are less strict when it comes to this stuff.

Carlos.png I guess you could say Starfield is a game pass.

dead money was fucking amazing, what the fuck?
people really fucking hated the fact that literally all your inventory is taken from you and you're back at square one. that and unless you actually pay attention to the "story" youre fucked. the weapons you get barely hurt the enemies and unless you were paying attention you didn't discover how to "kill" the enemies so if you say just shoot them you wouldn't realize they'd all get right back up ready to kill you. then there's the constant radios fucking with your collar, and again, if you weren't paying attention you wuoldn't realize you can just shoot the radios or turn them off. Then there's the skill checks, where this is the only part of the entire franchise where you get the worse ending if you follow them.

Beyond all of that is the traps, pretty much everywhere has either a bear trap or the cloud, and beyond the rest of that shit is the cloud constantly hurting you meaning if you are on survive mode you're entirely playing against the clock for the first half of the DLC. at minimum you won't be able to sleep in a bed so you will have at least one if not all 3 survival meters causing a bad effect for pretty much the duration of the DLC.

Basically people hated it because of the DLC taking everything away from you and being truely hard in a game where even on the hardest settings you could kill almost everything in your path besides the deathclaws or those bugs pretty much from the start. and fallout 3 was even easier. It was pretty much the only part of the entire modern franchise where you had to worry about stuff like your health or keep track of your ammo or how much everything weighed.

Also the ending bit with the gold bars and not being able to take all of them back with you really pissed people off, the rewards in general were pretty fucking shit for the DLC, when every item in fallout 3's dlc was worth buying the DLC for. This is also why honest hearts doesn't strip you of everything and they don't even take a single thing away from you in the latter DLCs despite it making sense in-story.

Overall i'll say its a fucking fun DLC, but only if you aren't going in blind and sort of understand whats expected of you, its also more for story (old school) players vs the "fun in the wasteland" type players because you really are supposed to listen to everyone's story and try to figure out shit on your own.

its actually insane how bad the writing is, even if you're going to force the PC into joining this stupid club it should be one where its for the few rare people who did interact with an artifact so you could have people from all walks and moralities who set it aside for the mission but its all about the result in the end.

thats because they didn't give them much writing beyond their initial bio

It's oddly fascinating seeing this thread still being relatively alive. On one hand I hope the game just flat out stops receiving updates even before the CK is implemented just to see Starfield die and Bethesda get fucked (until they release some retarded Creation Club nonsense again or the Fallout TV show gets another season so normies and slurp the slop), but on the other hand it's interesting seeing people talk about this shitshow of a game in any capacity. Don't know why that is.

You guys can just come out and say your problem is there isn't a companion that will follow everything you say AND fuck you.

Don't know why that is.
It's just such a weird and fascinating mess. It's the first game I've gotten invested in where I constantly find myself thinking that there was absolutely no oversight to this game.

Where as Skyrim, to me, feels like a game that has become propped up by mods, the more I play Starfield the more I find it feels like a bunch of mods thrown together that didn't have a base game as a foundation.

It's weird how saccarine and sanitized this universe is.

Everyone is super nice and polite and even the bad guys are mildly passive aggressive at their meanest.

Even when violence does happen it's completely bloodless MCU combat and then when it's over some npc goes "whoa that was wild, now how about some space ice cream?"

Skyrim was downright grim in tone and even Fallout 4 despite being a lot brighter and more cartoony held onto some of the grit and grime.

This though? I have genuinely no idea why this game is rated M. There's no blood and gore, no sexual content, there's barely even any profanity.

I know I said it before but the aftermath of the Terrormorph questline really showed the game's lack of freedom, morals and diversity of opinion. The safest choice is seen by every companion as the worst one possible whilst the more complex and with possibly long term risks is seen as the best one.
