DOOM

Honestly, judging from the description, this sounds like a mix of Doom and Hexen/Heretic. Phil Spencer REALLY likes Hexen, so having the opportunity to combine one of Xbox's few heavy hitters with one of his favorite series sounds like something he'd do.

Doom with more in depth melee mechanics and stuff would be rad. I like where this is going.
If thats the case, and you know since they own Raven why wouldn't they just make a Hexen or Heretic 3?

You know pump up another series, another smash return. Get the excitement going for people who liked Doom and maybe for people who didn't like Doom and want to see something new. Now it looks like "oh another Doom game" to the layman, which would still work for people who have been into the last couple of Dooms but if they weren't they'll just ignore this one.

The current megacorporate MO is to take any successful IP and run it into the ground as fast as possible, squeezing out every bit of profit they can until everyone hates it.

My problem with eternal is that they seemed to take all the wrong lessons from 2016 that people liked about that game. People liked the fact that the story was almost considered optional. But now it looks like they’re doubling down on Eternal’s 40k writing and I expect we are are just going to be sent around to random location after random location to find the kirinians from kal'kazar so we can dirimble the jubilee

I will echo the dislike above about the direction of Doom's story, much preferred when it was just about a teleportation experiment gone wrong and a normal marine sent to hell and he didn't have some ridiculous space fortress. I gameplay wise loved 2016 but wasn't a fan of Eternal only letting you carry like 20 shotgun shells max and creating a bunch of cooldown powers like I'm playing fucking Overwatch. And the platforming, good lord did Eternal have too much platforming. I'll try to have an open mind and reserve my judgement till I can see extended gameplay.

Holy fuck.

On one hand, I wish nu-Doom wasn't so story heavy, but on the other, I'm digging the setting. The spreadgun that shoots skull shrapnel and the chainsaw shield are metal as fuck. If nothing else, the animation is kino.

Hopefully they find a way to streamline the different attacks and abilities without it being a clusterfuck like Eternal. I appreciate what they were going for, but Doom is busy enough without having to micromanage resource systems.

Not of a fan of the Captain America boomerang shield but that Skull Shrapnel gun was fuckin' peak.

Probably what turned me off from Doom Eternal after a while, I finished it but I'll probably never get the DLC. Ah...I remember that little drama that happened. I also hope the story is as light as possible if they insist on having on. I like stories in games but Doom is...not the game for that. So when they suddenly introduce this big story that (IMO) was ok at first but was shit all over the place with the DLC, I was just turned off by it greatly. I love lore, but again that's just not Doom.

Just pirate Serious Sam 4 at this point. It's basically the same thing except Sam retained his "regular soldier too badass to die" persona.

Looks like it'll play differently to 2016 and eternal, which was exactly what I wanted. I'm real happy they aren't doing Eternal again. Eternal was perfect, it was insanely good and I don't want another since they will fuck it up. Proof of that was in the dlc, dlc 1 was permanently nerfed to be easier even on nightmare and dlc 2 was boring with an awful finale. The super versions of the levels were great however.

I know everyone is bitching about the story but I feel like everyone forgets doom 2016 forces you into a handful of walk and talk scenes you cannot skip or the couple that forces you to listen to a villian monologue before a door opens that are all unskipable which is unfortunate since it really hurt my enjoyment replaying it even if you can just spam super shotgun and rocket launcher and beat the whole game easily. Doom eternal doesnt have any forced unskipable cutscenes like 2016, you can skip every cutscene. Eternal story did take itself too seriously, and it was bad.
