Given everything that’s happened over the course of the past 5 years or so, should the first post be updated to be up to date on the current state of Comicsgate? Or a timeline kept of all the important moments? Or a pinned post? Or just leave it as is and just go through the thread to learn about the ins and outs of this entire drama?

First introductory post on Comicsgate

Re-doing the OP is talked about every 6 months to a year but it would be a waste of time for whoever took that on. Do you need a basic outline? This would need to be filled out with more of the important videos and funny shit like Dale Keown passing out and knocking over his piss bottles.

Pre-Comicsgate: Some journalist writing about Gamergate coins "Comicsgate" saying that will be a load of shit or whatever when that happens. People like Sargon make proto- CG videos bitching about Marvel comics. (2014)

OG Comicsgate: The original youtubers and twitter users are people like first Captain Cummings and Doug Ernst then Richard C Meyer/ Diversity in Comics channel est 2017, and others rarely mentioned anymore like Englentine, Unranked Chevron, and Captain Frugal. This group is where the nebulous ideological "we just want better comics" and various permutations of this originates from. Early on is focused on attacking Marvel and DC creators and editors "Milkshake girls" is an early controversy with Richard C Meyer's "Dark Roast" stream being required watching for this era. Meyer also streams from the Charlottesville Unite the Right riot.

Richard C Meyer vs Mark Waid: Meyer solicits Jawbreakers to Antarctic press and Waid interferes spoiling the deal. Lawsuit will follow and eventually have a fundraiser started by Van Sciver and the lawsuit unceremoniously is dropped years later.

Comicsgate phase 2: Industry rejects like Jon Malin and Ethan Van Sciver join up with Meyer circa 2018. Ethan Van sciver starts his Comicsgate Live stream and becomes the biggest show in Comicsgate. Second wave newcomers like YellowFlash, Tim Lim, Edwin Boyette, Star Wars Girl, Mandy Summers, Cecil and the Warcampaign appear. More industry vets like Mike S Miller, Doug Tenapel and the Breitweisers join up plus a bunch of other small timers. With Warcampaign's help EVS ousts Miller, Boyette, Lim, Ernst, Tenapel, etc. Then Warcampaign is cut loose first on the "Fall of Rome" stream then with finality after the Star Wars Girl "dead sister" debacle.

Comicsgate phase 3 Scivergate: With Warcampaign cut loose in early 2020 EVS is the main force and influence in CG. Even Richard C Meyer nopes out. Funding peaks during COVID for Cyberfrog 2 and never reaches that high again until Eric July's ISOM. Eric July is another streamer who has similar content to Comicsgate and there is some audience crossover. Eventually Eric starts his Rippaverse in 2022 and beats all previous CG records.

Devolving to Eric July A-Logging and the core 6 CG'ers:
In late 2023 EVS falls out with Eric July and Yellowflash. He starts the Trashcast which is dedicated to perpetually shitting on those two.

2. Eric July le based black man youtuber makes capeshit
Eric July is a black libertarian ancap youtuber making similar content to Comicsgate and was friendly with them until recently. In 2022 he announces the Rippaverse, his own comic superhero universe and it makes a couple million dollars. Comicsgate/Van Sciver support it initially. Van Sciver does a variant cover for July's ISOM #2.

3. Dick & Vito hate Eric and his comics, are obsessed
Vito, a fat disgusting "comedian" from LA is crowdfunding a comic and has a podcast with Dick Masterson (The Biggest Problem in the Universe). He is the first of this group to focus on July. Before the book ISOM came out Vito was nit picking it, got trounced in a debate with July etc. Masterson made fun of Vito for being obsessed. In May 2023 Masterson reviews ISOM #1 Eric's first comic. The review is negative. Eric July flips out, refutes every point of the review declares Masterson his enemy, and starts calling him "Buster Baxter". Masterson doubles down, emboldening his fans to start mischief. Riley (fat guy who fought with Ethan Ralph when he went to Digibro's house to get Pantsu's stuff) declares himself the Clippaverse and says he will shave Eric July. July ends up DMCA striking Riley's logo and Riley shows up at July's warehouse while July is not there. Later another Dick Show fan poses and leaves some stuffed animals at Eric July's ancestor Isom Knox's grave (the forum claims he pissed on the grave but this is not likely true). Yet another troll sends an email to a ministry school called ISOM causing a lawsuit that is later settled. Eric July becomes a mainstay subject on every episode of the Dick Show and Biggest Problem in The Universe. All of this enrages July and he makes videos reacting to it.

4. Ethan Van Sciver tries to ride the fence, ends up on the wrong side. Goes full retard. Comicsgate allies with Dick & Vito in endless tard war vs July.
Masterson, Vito, July, and Van Sciver all appear on a YellowFlash2 Flashcast stream. Van Sciver tries to play both sides saying Eric should take the criticism and use it. The rest fight with Vito and Masterson who appear separately. Eric says hell to the naw naw and sends text messages to Van Sciver after the show telling him to cut it out. Most of the anti-woke nerd youtubers side with July (except notably Rekieta) but Ethan Van Sciver is a fan of Masterson and Rekieta. Van Sciver tries to play both sides for a few weeks but starts appearing on a show called Geek Getaway that also hosts Riley, Vito, and the guy who allegedly pissed on the grave. July continues to make veiled references to Van Sciver's disloyalty in his videos. Van Sciver doxes the private conversation and does his own bad reviews of ISOM #1 and #2. At this point he has chosen a side. He makes a video with Riley and Mint Salad in person. He has Masterson, Vito, Geek Getaway, even Ethan Ralph (also a July hater) on his show. Smaller Eric July hater channels pop up, mostly all Comicsgate friendly and some get monetized. Ethan Starts "Trashcast" a show dedicated to obsessing over Eric July in the style of Masterson and the other small hater channels. He has now become full retard. Eric July on the other hand takes a step forward, stops chimping out about da haters and continues to publish comics. Van Sciver collects money for comics that ship years late and is basically ComicsGunt.

Ethan declares the core comicsgaters are himself, Shane Davis, Anna That Star Wars Girl, Cecil, Malin, and Mandy Summers a southern thot who got there by sharing nudes. Perpetual tard war with Eric July is on the agenda daily and current day CG allies are people like Dick & Vito, Ethan Ralph, and post polycule and arrest Nick Rekieta.

They doubled down on it and started producing brand new comic books to keep the sales going and, so I am told, kicked off the Golden Age of comics. I will dig around and see if I can find some decent sources that back this up, add them in the edit.

I'd be interested to hear about the history. The point is (like you were referencing) comics were born out of business necessity. You need to do what it takes to make the business work. You need hard-nosed, no nonsense people to make sure shit gets done and sold. Most artists don't have the kind of responsible personality to get their work in on time all the time without somebody else supervising them.

I'd also be interested in why Image Comics failed and how that potentially relates to this. I know some of the history of comics, but not a ton, but I vaguely remember that Image ultimately failed because of artist egos, too. You can have a ton of potential and talent, but if you can't maintain a stable business structure, your projects will implode.

Personally I have a suspicion that it was the artists more than any one (even the CCA) who put the industry in to its current state, good artists tend to have big egos and tend to hate selling work that they consider beneath them. Dreadful choice for sales leader ship.

The "sjwing" of comics is a direct result of the nepotism culture as fugly thots sleazed their way into comics wishing they could get into other media like writing news, movies, streaming shows and then when metoo became a thing along with social media every man had to either leave the biz or back their politics and these women, along with the influx of ESG money to hire them, maneuvered their way up despite the utter failure of everything they touched. So from being the lone girl for a bunch of desperate comic book geeks in a bar to fawn over after work, to the head bitch via blackmail and esg money.

Yeah, there's a lot of reasons why mainstream western comics is collapsing. You're right that a big part of it is the insular, nepo bubble. We've entered that stage of these institutions where people didn't earn their positions on merit, therefore they have no idea what they're doing. You're also right that a major problem is the ideologicalization of it's management culture (which you are seeing all across the board in various industries and government). The people running things are completely out of touch with their customers, and they hate their customers. They're more interested in chasing social trends popular with the elites than in what sells.

There's still a market out there. Manga is capitalizing on it. Indie creators could capitalize on it. But you need structure, focus, and discipline in addition to talent. EVS can whine all he wants about how talented he is and how EJ has no talent, but either you deliver or it's just empty words.

Oh by the way, keep coming back" is offering a service in the form of a different take he may not hear in his hugbox. This isn't Twitter or YouTube. KF is still a rather obscure place, but i get it's not for everyone. I don't hate the guy. Never did. I don't think anyone in this thread did. We all predicted big success, but said what we thought, his ego be damned. His ego has been and continues to be the one thing that trips him up if he lets it.

it must be remembered that Ethan gave a very positive initial review of it when it first came out and was very much on board with ISOM as he made a variant cover for it. The only thing that changed was his buttpucker at Rippa's success and deciding to link up with Masterson & Vito full time as a means of regaining social media status if not actual market share. The big difference between this event and the War Crampain Circle Jerk was that Masterson is the one who dictates policy and loans out his Riley/Mint gayops. Ethan is trying to keep up with it and is getting absolutely "obliterated" with the Rekieta obligation. If Ethan wasn't as tied in with Dick, I don't see him being an active noseguard.

Then again Nick lives the life Ethan wishes he had, barring the arrest, so he probably would have offered silent support at the very least.

The OGs calling him out were people in this thread like Big Daddy and Mister Dongs had a fucking hilarious video that was the reason Eric came to this thread briefly. Even Vikkiverse was before Vito. I recall thinking that July was destined to be an also-ran and good for a mediocre issue or two and he was way too normie for the real core of CeeGee but was allowed to hangout due to his token value. As it turns out, I was way off about the amount of interest, hype and money he could generate, but nothing surprised me about the comics themselves.

Until Sciverfrog finally shapes up, ships out or nopes the hell out, there's nothing Eric has done that hasn't been done already by Sciverfrog except for getting shit out in record time and making even more bank doing it... that includes average comics at best and surrounding himself with fools and tools and loyalty checks, but so far he's avoided the need for gayops, leeking DMs and ballwashing for Dick, Nick & Crew. There's no reason to leave the thread unless you feel compelled to frog-guard.

Yeah, that was a legit dumb move linking up with Peggy Sue! Wasn't aware of that connection. Definitely lolworthy! If he pulls more moves like that, he could one day take the flag. I think it warrants more attention if he maintains this relationship to this day. I'd expect Ethan to have brought that up if it were still an issue. Could be wrong.

There is lolcow potential though. Why people think they are duty bound only to report only on one side's foibles is silly to me. This is not a zero-sum game. We're closer than ever at getting a punished frog arc and no amount of July flubs are going to change that or make Ethan look even remotely better in comparison.

By all means keep exposing the red in the ledgers, just don't expect a big reaction over a few dog turds when the elephant in the room is shitting waterfalls next to a hippo who's just fanning shit all over the walls. How anyone can complain about the attention Ethan is getting now is beyond me, but of course I'm biased.

There is one thing Eric July did that is interesting. Even if he is a scrub with grandiose ideas and poor execution on his own writing, making a conduit for creators to come and hype their book, generate real money and then put it out is a big win. Dixon and Bennett I think was the thing that embarrassed the frog the most.

evs would never share spotlight with big names but being the savior who uncancelled people and made them rich was what he wanted to be (a double edge sword, ego and greed won't let him share the money but he wants to be the guy who saves comics and therefore other creators) but instead Eric's platform is now a legit alternative for even a big name artist to go to and make more money than marvel or dc and probably own their shit, like image was.

I would love to see a few legit guys jump from marvel and dc to do books with Eric, make more money than marvel and dc and then verbally slam marvel and dc exercise some free speech. That was what evs promised and instead delivered woke artists who wiped out from the big 2, old has beens schilling stale ideas and lame amateur balldo washers.
