Won't Detroit and the other majority black areas make it borderline impossible for him to win considering they vote 95% + Democrat?

Considering Trump's targeted campaigning in the Detroit black community and his overall higher than average polling among black Americans, perhaps not.

Trump has an actual shot at Michigan because he promised to set tariffs on foreign-made autos. Detroit is a dystopian hellhole because their automotive industry collapsed and every other politician is like "lol progress". There's a lot of rage and bitterness he can tap into there.

Also Detroit is possibly lawless and murderous enough now that even the blacks support racist cops shooting anyone who looks vaguely criminal.

Most of union people here are more devoted to the Democratic Party than even Googles. Granted UAW membership is far less than it use to be but I still don't see Michigan flipping red for that reason.

Union loyalty always ends up collapsing when there's no union work. I don't see people who've been out of work for six years having much devotion left. The Democrats could easily win back anyone who flips red over this, but they'd have to offer them something. Public works, tariffs, subsidised industry... something. Right now Trump's the only one who's even pretending to throw them a lifeline.

Michigan's economy isn't so bad right now. The auto industry is hiring (nowhere near the level it used to, but still) and so are parts suppliers. There's also old ass UAW retirees who will never for any reason vote Republican out of habit. Finally, there's the huge population of lazy freeloaders in Detroit and Flint who survive on dem programs who will always vote Democrat. While I would love Michigan to flip, I highly doubt it'll happen.
