What are some of your "warning sign" bands? - When you hear someone says they like X band then it's time to ask for the check.

"No Feelings" is a great song and I will die on that hill.
Never Mind the Bollocks is a banger from start to finish. I'll push over and pee on anyone who disagrees.

Thread tax:
Crust Punk (Tragedy, Catharsis etc)
Male; "Feminist Ally", sex pest, stinky
Female; Militant feminist, hairy airpits, will make speeches about the oppression of women in public, likes to be dominated in the bedroom, likes anal.
Post Industrial (Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio, Spiritual Front, Rome)
Male; Spergs about Tinto Brass and Fellini movies, probably into some kind of occultism, likes military uniforms.
Female; depressed, "artistic", into BDSM

Femtanyl. Trying to make self-mutilation, pup-play, and being trans sound cool with scream rap and earrape bass ("Take my E and think about my setbacks," "I get clocked like it's a job to me").

jesus christ

This may be an unfair generalisation, but in my experience, any man who loves They Might Be Giants is a massive faggot
They Might Be Giants is Reddit: the Band. They have a virtue signaling song on an album of theirs from all the way back in 1990:

They were also doing the "I fucking love SCIENCE!!!!!!" thing ages ago. Like this album from '09:

It's a children's album, but they play songs from it at their concerts. 🤷 It doesn't surprise me at all that they now tweet about tranny rights. They have always been colossal faggots, but millenials know about them because their songs snuck into a bunch of 90s TV shows.

I recall an article about them mentioning how empowered one of their wives was being by smoking while pregnant in public so that people would look at her in disgust.
I fucking love feeding noxious chemicals to my clump of cells!

Had to google that, found this http://www.museumofidiots.com/tmbg/articles/jl/20070000babble.html
Karen had this impulse to go out and smoke while she was pregnant, just to piss people off. It seemed really doctrinaire, like people have this very -- especially people who don't have kids -- seemed like they had this really hard-line attitude about what you were and were not supposed to do.

But then you got this here https://www.reddit.com/r/MasksForEveryone/comments/y10nhj/they_might_be_giants/

A PERSONAL MASK REQUEST

from THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS:

PLEASE WEAR A MASK AT OUR SHOW.

Please remember to wear a mask when we get together. A quality mask (N95, KN95, or KF94) is a proven effective barrier to COVID and long-haul COVID, both of which are still very much with us.

Quick (and no cheating), name the sample from Fugees - Ready or Not
I didn't read this whole thread, but the sample is Enya's "Boadicea", one of my favorite songs by her. That whole Fugees album is still good.

Personal red flags would be people who mainline K or J pop, they are usually zoomies who haven't had enough time to diversify what they like in music, or weird dead eggers who get moist to twinks. Either way trying to talk about music to them is either a chore or a waste of time. There are occasional K/J pop songs I like for mindless background music, but none of the major bands have much depth, but that's part of the fun of them if you don't take them seriously.

Also black metal purists. I say this because years ago I used to be one. There's a lot of black metal out there that's just like top 40 dreck for the genre, but there's a surprising amount of actual good music in the genre, if you like heavy shit.

Speaking of that, top 40 anything. Anyone who thinks this stuff is deep or makes an intellectual connection with them hasn't listened to much music, or is just shallow, usually. I like some pop bangers and whatnot, but it's not like Swift, Ava Max, Dua Lipa or Lady Gaga is gonna make me sit and think about their music beyond whether it's just a fun pop song.

Indie stuff is very hit or miss, and usually tends to make fans think they are smarter than they actually are. The types of people who make that type of music their identity have long been laughingstocks due to their unwarranted arrogance. Still a lot of good music in there if you dig, even if these types are the biggest red flag wavers in my opinion.

Rap/hip hop people can either be chill as hell or as bad as metal purists. I can't really say much, because I've never really gotten into the music itself, it never has done much for me.

Country also has never done much for me, especially the modern stuff crossed usually with buttrock or pop. I like really old country music, but I might listen to it like twice a year at most.

Folk music is strange. The people really into it can throw up all kinds of red flags, unless they are into the old resurgence of the 60's and 70's, a good example of the kind of stuff I like from back then would be bands like Fairport Convention. Newer folk music is full of all kinds of off base political garbage.

Really, a lot of the red flag stuff has been brought up already in this thread, like hardcore Tool fans, Juggalos, Feminazi punk, crust punk, all those people who would be walking flagpoles for "zomg run away". But music is so subjective that usually, if someone is too into something, even if the music they like happens to suck to you, it's a part of their personality that they like it for whatever reason. When they make it part of their identity like swifties is where you see problems.

Behemoth. Mostly because Nergal is such a colossal faggot and I can't imagine anyone admitting to liking their music without being an insufferable twat.
they have been true summer fest beer metal for several decades now. in his defence, when they came down here, they played transylvanian forest, for the oldfags. so he checks out in my book. serious baldness also, poor dude.

and even there, rob halford is a literal fag yet his music is metal from beyond the grave. so when we say "gayness" we mean that extra special type of gayness...
thisisslipknot.jpg
This shirt really expresses everything you need to know about Slipknot, in my opinion. Could also work for Coal Chamber, DownTheSun and a whole host of the harder edged nu metal bands.

Bright Eyes appeals to girls who think they're complex and analytical, but aren't yet. They hate vapid mainstream music, so they choose to listen to the same exact shit with a different sound. So as long as you have a singer sounding sad and some Indie-tier guitar, the average female retard will think it's a deeply heartfelt ballad… even though it's about humpin'n'dumpin a bitch, or trying to sleep with a rape victin.

I've enjoyed the couple of songs I've heard from Bright Eyes just for how unapologetically fucked up they are. There again, their lyrics should be unnerving and disgusting to the fans rather than innately appealing.
In contrast, every male Conor Oberst fan I've ever met in the past 15+ years has been a generic pasty former-hipster, and has cheated on their long-term partner with drug addicts. That's 2.5 out of 3 so far; the .5 is a troon. The deep fans who worship all his projects seem to desperately want to fuck him or be him, unironically.

Edit: After writing all of that out and thinking about it, I realized I just described Reddit, which should have been self-evident.
