Diseased Rowling Derangement Syndrome - "TERF/Woke Author Bad!!1"

This is probably also a big reason why the rights went to WB rather than Disney.
Disney don’t play well with others, when it comes to creative control.
That's also why Disney didn't get the theme park. WB went to Disney first, JKR insisted on the HP park area being immersive and on having tons of creative control. Disney didn't agree (they wanted two rides and a food stand) and tried to negotiate JKR down. While that was going on, WB snuck off and had some secret negotiations with Universal who agreed to everything JKR wanted so they got the park.

Why would she make life difficult for another woman, that doesn't sound like her at all.
Not for no reason or normally no.

I suspect these agents and actresses have read enough of the script to come to the conclusion that it’s not something that’s near knuckle but genuinely funny at worst, or toothless and harmless at best.

It’s one thing calling her names on Twitter.

It’s quite another producing a play about how she is a grumpy old hag, mean and stupid, called to task by a bunch of kids.

Everyone has their limits.

No serious actress is up for the role. This is the Edinburgh Festival we're talking about. Most of the performers are students staying 50 miles away and shacked up fourteen to a room because that's all the accommodation they can afford. "Salary" in the usual "profit-sharing" sense which means you might break even on the venue hire costs if you sell out every single show, otherwise you pay. The reason they can't find any women comes down to them being troons and creepy and no real women wanting to share a room with them. As always.

No serious established actresses of course, but plenty of actors in general have had to do a few crappy plays and such to pad out their resume and get some credits.

This though likely smells like career death before it even begins to these agents and actresses.

I actually think they're more scared of the play potentially upsetting the troons than anything to do with Rowling herself. Perhaps the script has some slight tiny nuance and doesn't depict her as a literal baby-eating demon, or it uses last month's terminology, and then scores of mentally unwell men in dresses are out for blood. Safer to just stay away from the entire business.

Wouldn't it make more thematic sense to fill all the female roles in the play with transwomen, or would that make the contrast between them and actual women come into starker relief?
If a trans women were to play the role of JKR, then it would probably wind up looking like a total self own once it came time to bring up Rowling's gender critical views.

A man in a dress talking about how men in dresses are predators is a bad enough look that I think even the community has enough self awareness to want to avoid it.

Troons are probably salivating at the thought of that last part. They want revenge on Rowling by editing her works to take out all the "bigotry", but they don't want to wait until she's dead to do it. They want to see her in pain by their actions. Psychopaths, all.
Troons can't create anything. All they can do is smear shit all over it.

She was also heavily influenced by The Famous Five. There's a lot of Blyton in the first couple of HP books.
Don't mention that, I know they did a new version recently and I am so certain they'll have made George trans I just refuse to even look that shit up

Why would she make life difficult for another woman, that doesn't sound like her at all.
It doesn't. But the sort of person that would take a role in a play called TERF Cunt WOULD do that. So they assume she would too.

If you are basically unknown and do an appalling play or film, or even something which gets you cancelled, provided you burn social media, get your name taken off the credits, wait a bit and come back with a different stage name, it’s more than salvageable.

Troons are coombrained and will find someone or something else to be outraged at pretty quickly once your Twitter goes dark.

However;
If you piss off someone with don’t give a fuck money and reach, they could even bide their time and let you think you got away with it and then you find yourself only being booked for z list panto and snuff films.
And your agent find themself booking clowns for childrens parties on their best days.

The kind of people who want to be successful in acting have to really want it, and agents will be wary of anyone willing to be controversial in a way that might infuriate a large studio, or someone with a lot of pull in said studio.

It’s hypothetical speculation here mostly, but being successful in acting and media is second only to politics in terms of who you know, not what you know.

So they think these women actually agree with the trannies and would otherwise totally love to take part in a play that calls another woman a "cunt" for expressing her opinions, but they all think they might have a shot to work with her instead? That sounds like insane logic to me. If you think Rowling is Hitler, you would also not want to appear in her show. I would rather assume they know this is a stupid play and not worth their time, even if they do not agree with Rowling and do not care about being in a HP show.
most likely they kinda agree with the troons in principle, but aren't so fanatical about it that they want to insert themselves into a turbo controversial and tasteless project like this. it's one thing to tweet "trans rights!" to your 50 followers, it's another to be known as the actress who played a lead role in a play named "TERF CUNT"
and most likely they kinda disagree with rowling, but not so hard that they would throw away all chances to potentially work on highly profitable projects with her in the future. harry potter is so big, it will probably keep spawning quite a few media projects over the next few decades, you don't want to close all those potential doors for your future self even if it is unlikely that you'll actually make it there.

if their agents are any good, this is the kind of advice they'll give their actresses about this situation: you can take this role and make a bit of money with it, but the project is guaranteed to be very controversial and it will alienate you from certain people in the future. if you really need cash today because otherwise you can't afford your next dose of heroin then go for it, but if you are more concerned with your reputation and career in the long term, then stay away.

I think there was an assumption among parents, teachers and librarians that reading Harry Potter would be a gateway drug for reading books in general. Instead, it was a gateway drug for watching Harry Potter movies, consuming Harry Potter merch, visiting Harry Potter theme parks, and wanking to Harry Potter fanfic.
This is the reason I hate Harry Potter. I'm pretty sure Rowling indirectly ruined genre literature.

Either that or they might wait for her to die before they ruin Harry Potter, similarly to what they did to Lord of the Rings.

But by then, society will have probably reached peak trans and nobody gives a shit anymore.
Hopefully the whole trans fads fifteen minutes of fame ends before Rowling dies so she can have the last laugh.

If that happens, can you imagine how crazy you'll sound to people who didn't have to live through it? "For a few years there was this small but incredibly loud group of sex weirdos who pretended to be women and who really hated the lady who wrote that mega popular series about a boy wizard. Why? Oh, because she said the men pretending to be women weren't really women. It was a peculiar time."

And on topic for the thread since Robbie Coltrane's in it!

He's the gypsy

Dawn French was in the Harry Potter films too.
She plays the Fat lady in the portrait at least once.

Ade, Jenifer, Keith Richardson and Nigel Planer were not in any of them, but Rik Mayal was cast as the mischievous poltergeist.
Ultimately his scenes were cut.

Recursively on topic, in fact...
The *cough* woman who serves them ice-cream is also Robbie Coltrane, in a dress and wig.

The worst witch was a kind of classic, much more old fashioned, pre 50s style of boarding school story, of which there were loads of, and basically all crap

What?! Charles Hamilton's work is incredible, there are arcs in his stories that resolved over decades of weekly episodes. Admittedly, there are piles of dogshit school stories from the era but he was great. And he didn't even particularly like writing them—he just loved taking the wages to Monte Carlo.

Rowling definitely read a lot of his stories before writing HP.

Oh hold on, I don't think you were calling him crap. Were you? Pesky unclear antecedents.
