The "say McDonalds to end commercial" thing is from a real patent. They're smart enough to not push this yet but they've already patented it and I have no doubt this will show up in a commercial product sooner or later
I don't think it will happen. The world around us is kept stable by comfort and convenience. The moment it becomes an active chore to veg out in front of Youtube is the moment you will see actual competition crop up... who will then probably also start doing what Youtube did when it grows big enough, just as Youtube stops doing it.

Can’t wait to get my Neural Link so I can get ads beamed directly into my brain. “It looks like you’re having breakfast! Have you considered trying Glori-O’s? The wholesome golden treat the whole family will love! I’ve ordered you some and they will be delivered within 30 minutes. Here’s a compilation video of TikTok nurses dancing while you wait.”

Gentlemen.

It's 2024 and we are experiencing late stage YouTube. The economical situation of the United States and the world at large is forcing the largest companies to make sudden and drastic decisions to try and keep their income higher than their operating expenses, whereas in the past it seemed even the largest companies were happy to operate at a loss or with no profit for years. YouTube in particular had been terminally unprofitable for years, and it seems that pajeet CEOs are calling it: make some fucking money.

YouTube is experimenting with a Final Solution to the Adblocker problem, similar to Twitch, where they inject ads directly into the bitstreams that make up a video, so that an ad is technologically indistinguishable from the content you've requested.

I believe, therefore, that I should remind people that the only thing they truly have is whatever they personally own. In this context, I am referring to downloading copies of videos. I wrote a guide to this here:

For many of you, YouTube will be a place where you've saved videos for over a decade. It's time to save what you want off the platform before they start doing more dumb shit. Whatever you want to keep forever on YouTube should be downloaded as soon as possible.

Are there any lolcow channels I should be archiving?
A lolcow I follow deleted his channel but I had almost all of his 600 videos saved on a thumbdrive.

I will pay a starving African to say “McDonald’s!” for me. And I will pay him with free food (corn starch and the occasional Big Mac) and housing (a shed behind my house). If he says anything besides the ad I will whip him.

He gets to watch YouTube in exchange for not starving in Africa.

Ive been using YT mirrors for awhile, Invidious/Piped for anyone who's interested.

It's been the best thing not being fed videos by YT directly and not having any ads on the videos is a plus too.

Unfortunately you have to change the instance/server often as they have been getting blocked more and more lately.

I still have an instance that works though you just gotta do some digging for one.

The problem is, we have no viable alternatives. YouTube really is the only game in town, which is why they can get away with all of this bullshit. And they know it, too. The silliest one I found is in my subtitles they flagged/zapped the word "sissy..." even though I was talking about Sissy Spaceck, the actress! That's her fucking name!

But let's be real here. None of the other platforms are true competition for YT. Odysee? BitChute? They're too small and skew far right, full of conspiracy theory shout show guys, free speechers, and all of that. Normies aren't gonna patronize a platform like that in any large numbers. It's a turn off to them. And normies are the vast majority, so you need something that will appeal to a more general, universal audience if you want the thing to get anywhere. None of the alternative video platforms do that, which is why they'll always be small. They don't have the resources of Google and that's why, despite YT's shitty advertising and thought-crime policies, no one has come up with a YouTube killer.

I really wish Elon Musk would do it, but judging by how he's bungled Twitter I can't see him getting into video. And that's a shame, because we need some common sense applied to this shit. There's no reason it can't be made profitable without sodomizing viewers' eyeballs with all of these annoying fucking ads interrupting content, the bullshit algorithms, and PC police cracking down on someone for no damned good reason.
It's weird because I use bitchute to find music that youtube no longer hosts for whatever reason, and nothing else.

Yet I only use youtube itself once every other week or so. I guess I'm not the average normie consumer since I don't constantly browse these websites, but from my point of view I'll go to whichever website has what I'm looking for, and will continue to block ads.

I don't see a way to make video streaming on an internet website that exists solely to host videos of... whatever, profitable. Yeah a bunch of morons might pay $15 a month, but for every person that does there's probably 10,000 that wont and never will like myself that will continue to eat up your bandwidth.

If this happens, will yt-dlp work if you pay for youtube premium and then have yt-dlp use your cookies from a browser with it logged in? I might just download my shit and bounce

YouTube is great for some things, shit for others. Like, a few years ago the dome light on my riceburner conked out, and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to pop off the plastic cover without breaking it. YT to the rescue! Sure enough, there was a video about how to do it right. Cooking is another one, lots of awesome cooking channels showing not only recipes, but techniques. Same for painting, gardening, cabinetmaking, learning stuff like Blender or Davinci Resolve or whatever, any of that how-to educational stuff. But YT is mega shit for podcasts since it's a VIDEO platform. Anything history you have to wonder if it's accurate or not because "the Message" is always being injected into it. Medical advice? Hit or miss, mostly miss, unless perhaps it's exercise stuff. On and on. And more and more ads. No one goes to YT to watch ads unless they're retro ads or Superbowl ads or movie trailers.

From the creator side, the copyright stuff is mega fucked up and prone to abuse by corporate morons or overly aggressive agents the studios and record labels use to monitor YT. And YT sucks in other ways. They make you jump through all of these hoops to become "successful" and then move the goalposts on you, and you're back to square one... and guess what? It's ALL YOUR FAULT if you aren't a success. And the whole thing and how it works is this big fucking mystery box, and it shouldn't be. All the YT educator channels are doing the work YT ought to be doing to make it easy to figure out the platform. None of those channels should be necessary.

I know first hand it's a lot of work to run a channel on YT, so I don't begrudge the creator making a buck or two. So monetization is this big goal YT keeps pushing, right? It's what a lot of creators work for, only to find the return for all the work they do to "earn" monetization amounts to mere pennies.

On top of that, rules and policies seem arbitrary. They claim everyone has an equal chance of success, and yet are compelled to push woke alphabet shit, to "raise minority voices" or however they put it. If everyone has an equal chance, why do they need to put their thumb on the scale? And if they're raising one voice, doesn't that mean they're marginalizing another voice to make room?

Sorry, I'm being a bit spergy, but YT sucks from both sides, user as well as creator. And there's nothing you can do about it, and it's frustrating as all hell.

You can input cookies, but I never explored this option much.

I'll add to the conversation by recommending a GUI frontend for yt-dlp I've been using for a while (Stacher). Learnt about it on KF from an IT thread a while ago. It's been serving me well, can automate many functions that'd otherwise require constant manual writing and generally is just easy to use.

I'm guessing they can't be sued over it because of the TOS or whatever, but to me this seems to be lawsuit worthy, especially for content created before this was implemented
The people who say "unalive" will never sue. Youtubers already proved that if anything promises an extra cent in ad revenue they will gladly adapt and agree to ruin their own content and user experience.

The sheer amount of words I've heard censored in the past few months has been surprising.

And yes. Guntubers haven't even moved, despite having to gimp their content more and more. They've tried, but mostly it's resulted in rounding error audiences and no payouts. So it all just keeps circling.back to 'yes massa'.

Guntubers are the perfect audience for Rumble and if they aren't bothering to take 10 minutes to upload shit twice, they should be discarded. Like, you mean to tell me you can't take 10 minutes to reupload your video to Rumble despite Neal Mohan sticking his tiny stinky indian currynigger cock down your throat, but you expect me to believe you're going to shoot at the ATF in a SHTF situation? Nah you're not nigger, you're fucking cattle. Stay in your pen and suck currynigger dick cattle retard.

I don't disagree.

Occasionally some people paywall the good shit(tm), but by and large they gimp the content for youtube adbucks. I don't agree with it, but it's what happens.

And if you want to know what happens when the rubber meets the road when the ATF comes for a content creator's shit, well...

Larry Vickers gave up his stuff.

Dude, busky Musky fucking loves ads. His competitor would be even worse.
