He didn't actually make the b roll for making it even though he has a complete crimp at the end. So you may be right that he can't handle it
No cat 6A? What a pussy.

They still have an audience because it's mostly Indian street-shitters. They are the most blindly brand loyal people on the planet. LTT can continue to pump out low quality clickbait and 15 minute long ads and they will happily head wobble to it.
I mean they are in Canada, and the majority of Canadians in cities these days are Indian.

Watching the archive made me realise just how out of touch i was/am with how far LTT content has fallen, i thought all the sperging in here about the videos being shameless ads masquerading as informative content was only half true, that there was some form of quality control
And there simply isn't
LTT is what's everything wrong with YouTube these days.
Advertisement disguised as informative content, baked in sponsor segments with a longer runtime than the "content" itself, disgusting soy face thumbnails, shitting out a video every 3 seconds, sucking the algorithms cock, segmenting "content" in 4353 sub channels, aggressive expansion of their staff, without any gains in quality, excessive spending on technical equipment, again with no gain in quality, obnoxious fan base that gobbles up their slop and defends any of their borderline fraudulent business practises.
"Relateable" business social media accounts are a close second on the what-I-hate-on-the-internet-list of today.
I take my top hats now.
This ams factuals, its a youtube problem, but channels of prodigious size can set trends almost as easy as they can chase them, if you build it, they will come, if you make genuinely interesting, entertaining and informative content about relevant topics in your field, you will be rewarded for it, and others will follow suit, Linus knows this, this channel was founded on a his now lifeless passion for techology, it probably hollows him out even more to see that reflected on his channel, to see that it has transmuted into a husk, animated by the forces of advertisement and bearing the clickbait face
Like i said, its a youtube problem, but it could've been Linus's to solve

Last year Linus funded a secret NAS development project run by two ex-UnRAID staff. This is the first reveal of what that project is, and it looks like an undercooked trainwreck.

https://hexos.com/

What was initially billed as being a slim and efficient NAS environment that focused on a short list of core features that were being underserved by other NAS operating systems, is now a skin for FreeNAS/TrueNAS. Their marketing sucks and they will solve none of the problems that people (rightfully) have with approachability of home servers.

Of course, because Linus is famous for his reliable backups. I'm sure nothing could wrong would happen to your data if you decided to use the LTT funded NAS OS that focuses on all those underserved features (for gamers).

t probably defaults to Raid0 because "it's faster for muh games".

Channels like this survive in part thanks to the regular churn of hobbies. People get into custom/gaming/whatever PCs, want to learn a bit more, and the algorithm serves them up LTT. They watch and subscribe because LTT videos are good for newbies. Some of these people will then eventually move on to better channels and sources while others remain casual fans. LTT will fade away someday but it'll most likely be a gradual process.

I just did 3 quick snips, name 1 video here that would help a newbie in anything PC related? Mind you, all these titles and thumbnails have been dearrowed so they are also more informative than whatever they use.

Linus does stupid stuff to a van to make it gamer, it will all break in a week. They never say it but I get a sense this is more of a permanent living in van due to Canada's failed state of economic affairs. Emily (a real Emily, a girl) is dating some short guy who is also wearing an LTT motorbike jacket, I cannot tell where parody or forced simp status begins.

I saw that one because my friend was watching it.
Full retard putting water-cooling on a constantly moving vehicle. That's how the same friend broke his water pump in 1 moving, at new year's eve

I remember driving a fully assembled PC around and was deathly afraid that the tower might pop off or something. It wasn't packed right, but at least it all survived.

This however. Just why? How about bringing a laptop or you know, now that you're outdoors and with a van, just enjoy the outdoors or something?

QNAP maintains a dungeon of Python coders that are fed a small corner of dry toast and orange juice twice daily to churn out horrifically unperformant Python code.

Yeah LTT has some coins but he doesn't have enough coins to find the slave coding labor he would need to write all the home server deamons in rust/go and C so that his NAS is not a snail. You can steal a lot of stuff from FOSS but at the end of the day a home NAS box is going to be about your mad skills at weaving all that shit together and making all of it lights out maintainable.

Not even a troon army can do that.

What I don’t understand is why not buy a stake or all of 45drives as they are already an established company and have a product and service offering. Heck they already work with all the tech YouTubers. Partner with them to build an os for non standard and standard turnkey hardware solution.

Ltt is not invented here syndrome to the nth degree. 45 drives probably laughed and said nah we’re good.

I don't know what they bring to Trunas Scale. It's already based on Debian and is stable. I recently installed it and I don't have many complaints, and I don't know what LTT would address or "improve".

A classic example of this is the Mac-based set-up Marty made from scratch for all of MCM's NAS needs (about 8 mins in, phoneposting rn).

This is actually pretty impressive, yet the comments section is infected with LTT simps bleating about how Linus can build MCM a better NAS. Way to insult Marty, guys.

Extremely doubtful that Linus has the liquidity to even make any sort of meaningful offer there. This 45drives place looks to be doing tens of mils a year in revenues, with tech multiplier valuations atop of that meaning they're easily in the same value range as all of LTT was at its peak, and that's their low end valuation. High end probably still stands well above LTT, Floatplane, and Labs total valuations.

45 drives probably laughed and said nah we’re good.
Even if he somehow found the cash for any meaningful offer, this'd be the exact case. Linus isn't even respected in the prosumer space anymore, he's a middling 'enthusiast' space person. Problem is, 'Enthusiast' and 'Please reach out to us for a build quote' are practically incompatible. Enthusiasts want to just buy a turnkey solution that they turn on, maybe do a few software configs on, and forget about it. Prosumers barely even touch stuff that isn't off the shelf priced, and the ones that might tend to be just as interested in building it themselves. 45's pretty well aimed at the commercial space, small and mid scale business partners who know what an RFQ actually is and why you'd even want to go through that process rather than fixed sticker pricing.

Why this matters is that Linus can't bring any meaningful money or business connection to these guys. LTT doesn't appeal in any meaningful way to their clients, and considering they've got the Forbes stamp of approval in various articles, they could probably raise capital and connections from investors far more involved in the space they play in. Taking on Linus would just be deadweight. And considering they already have and support TrueNAS setups for clients, I doubt a shittier skinned version of it appealed to them at all either.

If you have a limited set of capabilities that you need then it's a simple project.

But in terms of what people are doing on the managed ones (like Syn and QNAP), it's a different story. Say you suddenly need to do a local S3 bucket. Turn on the option on the NAS (realistically it's firing up a ton of shitty setup Python)... you get the drill.

For the uninitiated there are two versions of TrueNAS. First there's Truenas Core, the BSD version which is essentially bulletproof. That's the one that everyone likes.

The second is TrueNAS Scale. It's based on Debian, and isn't as performant. It also runs Kubernetes with very bad networking.

The product they are shilling is one based on Scale because everyone knows Linux, and scale has a rest API.

It's also worth noting that Truenas already has a pretty decent UI.
