Not to P/L but I lived in Japan for about 3 years in the 00's and with how things ended up developing I'm so glad I came back stateside. I feel really bad for my friends who stayed there long-term seeing their net worth practically be halved with the cheap Yen. I also find the current crop of zoomer weeaboos & Japanophiles to be absolutely hilarious and fascinating seeing a whole cohort of dudes knowing everything about Japan via watching Shogun, Tokyo Vice and their favorite expat streamers.
I loved reading Matt's Twitter for his hilarious troon antics and felt so sorry for his wife and daughter. Which Japanese news sites do they usually post at?
I haven't kept up with one potential western lolcow living over there in awhile named Matt Thorne (now "Rachel"), a "manga" professor at a womans university in Kyoto. Some of you know him for his translations of classic bishojo manga and maybe having something to do with the manga museum in Kyoto.
First time I ever saw weird troon shit going on about trans 5 year olds back in around 2011 on his personal blog (blog was since nuked). Was all in glee that five year old in a Japanese kindergarten supposedly showing gender dysphoria in a survey (most likely not understanding the question)..
Also first time I ever saw the whole IM A LESBIAN IN A MANS BODY shit too.
The asshole locked their Twitter feed a few years back after thinking it was a good idea to just start claiming various mangaka are gay by evidence of shaking hands with them. Went on a cringe inducing thread about Hirohiko Araki being gay.
Say what you want about his art (nevermind the man's been married multiple times), but making such claims in a society that isn't a magical gay heaven like anime pretends it is is dangerous shit to do and could of ruined his reputation.
Was also able to find a few years ago Matt Thrornes comments in various Japanese news sites and man does he come off as the usual entitled expat.
