That's not how a hair follicle test works. The metabolites that were found are, for starts, metabolites. They aren't looking for cocaine in her hair, they are looking for the chemicals your body breaks cocaine down into. The drug has been metabolized by the body and the metabolites enter the follicle via blood vessels attached to the hair follicle.

Hair follicle testing has a much longer window of detection compared to urine or blood testing. The drug metabolites are incorporated into the hair as it grows and just stays there. CFS is using hair testing cause they want to get a picture of exposures over the last several months or more, blood and urine testing would only show recent days’ exposure.

I am begging people to read the specs of the 5-panel EIA test. It only detects that the antibody binding sites are occupied, not what they are occupied with. They will bind to either cocaine or cocaine metabolites, so if you only perform the antibody test on a sample of pure cocaine containing no metabolites you WILL get a strong positive. It says in the machine specs that they confirmed this to be the case while designing it, specifically by contaminating coke-negative hair with external contact.

I'm not saying it absolutely is the case, but I am saying it is plausible the CPS report indicates only a positive on the preliminary EIA test, which can show a false positive from external contamination.
