Yeah, it's not uncommon to form a special bond with the child who requires extra work/help (through health or behavioral issues). I remember Nick talking about her and I didn't think it was an issue either, but that was before I noticed that Nick generally doesn't seem to like his kids and is perfectly fine mocking them and complaining about them publicly. So why is she his favourite? And now this one girl who was already standing out because of how he's talked about her vs the rest of kids, is the only one testing positive for coke.
