You Know What Grinds My Gears? - Things that personally piss you off

When people say "x was always woke!" It's as obnoxious as "All media is political!" and misses the point. There's a difference between what these goalpost movers consider "woke" and what people actually mean by woke.

  • A badass black man who's likely a sergeant in the military.
  • A gay character who's 3 dimensional and has tons of character outside of just being gay. Maybe them having trouble with fitting in or being accepted would be a minor part of their backstory they'd mention but the story wouldn't dwell on it too much.
  • An enemy that are evil tyrannical imperialists that the underdogs take down
  • An American hero beating up Nazis
  • A kickass Asian lady who's a martial artist and can beat up dudes easily. Also pretty attractive
  • Socio-political themes that are well thought out and conveyed. May even get conservatives or liberals to question their views and overthink their values.

Now compare that to:

  • A black general in 32 BC Rome.
  • A transbian who can't shut up about being gay and whose entire backstory revolves around how they're not accepted as a valid womxn.
  • Villians that are a blatant allegory for Trump, MAGA people, or conservatives.
  • Equating anyone even remotely right of open border gun-grabbing socialists to the SS
  • A mystery meat woman with dyed hair, a man face, and the physic of a refrigerator.
  • A hamfisted political message that has a childish view on complicated subject matter.

You already know where this is going: password security is the great Satan and you will never vainquish it. Most people are so resistant to basic security measures that, considering the alternatives, writing down their passwords is actually the least unsafe thing they can do.

The ideal seems to be a password you wouldn't be able to remember at gunpoint, with a mix of upper case, lower, symbol, no birthday, no letters in sequence, no numbers in sequence, no less than 18 characters but no more than 22 and either saved in a browser or written down in a notebook.
Tell me about it. The professional software I use has a different version for each year, and I swear the password rules get stricter each year to the point I have to keep the passwords recorded elswwhere because there's no way to remember them all by memory alone.

When you ask a yes/no question, and they don't answer it accordingly.
This is a big gear-grinder for me. Similarly, I hate when I ask a specific question and get an unrelated answer. In the past, when I took a relative shopping:

Relative: I have to go to the other corner of the store real quick. You can get the next item on the list while you're waiting.
Me: What lunch meat do you want?
Relative: Get Brand X cookies.
Me: What's that got to do with lunch meat?

You're still a piece of shit, you're just a religious or political piece of shit.
Anyone who uses religion or politics as a way to shit on the people around them are the truly shitty ones.

I don't like how it seems that petitions (especially online) never change anything significant for the better.
It's been my observation that online petitions are little more than slacktivism that accomplishes nothing. Anyone can say they signed an online petition. True change involves expending more effort than that - effort most people today are unwilling or unable to spend for whatever reason.

Why is the modern world unable to build a gas can that simply dispenses fuel when I tip it and doesn't get itself strangled with vacuum bubbles.
I hate the safety gas cans that are sold now. I was very pleased to find I still had an old style gas can with the old-style spout. It's now being used exclusively and I refuse to get rid of it until it's unusable. I've seen a site that sells the old style spouts, but I suspect I'd end up on some sort of government list if I ever bought one.

People who call computer programs apps.
This is a bit annoying. Back in the days of Visual Basic 6, however, the main object storing program information such as the name and version data was named App. So, App.ProductName was the name of the program.

Not sure if that's the reason people call programs apps, or if it's because too many people use mobile devices and use that terminology even when it's not appropriate - or some combination of both.

When people say "x was always woke!"
I think it's yet another attempt to BS all into going SJW. As you describe, "woke" is newer and unprecedented "identity politics" BS.

For example, there is a large difference between "race makes no difference" of the '90s and "cultural appropriation" of Current Year.

I don't know exactly where the term came from, but computer programs were already often called "Applications" before the advent of the iPhone. I think it might actually have been Mac OS that used Applications for all its user-focused programs, actually.

Fuck Apple.

I recently saw this being used to claim that the Original Star Trek was "woke."

On one hand, I'll gladly admit that the show tried to show people of different backgrounds - and even difference species - getting along for a common purpose and not judging each other on irrelevant traits. If I remember right, the show was a portrayal of the idealized society people in that era envisioned where individuals weren't judged by appearance. Nothing wrong with that.

In one episode, a reproduction of President Lincoln refers to Uhura using 19th century language for black people. In response, she simply and politely informs him that people have moved beyond that in their present time and the story moves on from there.

The issue with today's identity politics is that skin color, sexual attraction, etc. is made the central focus of people to the point that character traits are either irrelevant or completely absent. If the above episode was rebooted today, I'd unironically expect Uhura to use the remainder of the episode to lecture the Lincoln being - and by extension, the audience - on the evils of cultural insensitivity and white privilege.

TL; DR - It's one thing to embrace diversity as it happens naturally. It's another for the SocJus crowd to impose it via "wokeness" or redefining the latter term to suit one's fancy or argument.

Love my cat but him spazzing out and acting like a weirdo can get annoying at times.

3 in the morning, gotta take a piss. Get up and turn on the bedroom light. Cat was sleeping contentedly with me on the bed but the second I turn the light on, he’s wide awake, eyes get huge, starts staring daggers at the ceiling light and starts letting loose with this plaintive worried as fuck meow. My half-asleep mind goes to the conclusion maybe something is fucked up in the wiring and he’s sensing smoke. No, nothing like that at all, Buckley is just a tard and I’m a bigger one for letting a cat make me paranoid.

When you are behind someone at a drink machine and they fucking taste test it right then and there. Bonus points if they dump it all out after, refill with ice, and do another to taste test. Absolute faggot behavior. I push my way in at that point.

It's diabetes water at Goyslop Inc., not fine wine.

Yes, programs used to be called applications. "Apps" is annoying and goofy.

How it is near-fucking-impossible to change (down) my cable setup. I currently have a billion channels, internet, and phone. Haven't had a working phone at home in a decade, and I rarely watch TV anymore, except for football. So all I want is to keep my internet, delete phone service, and reduce channels. Can't do it online. "Change plan" will not let me remove the phone. Fuckers. Now I'll have to spent at least an hour (probably 2) on the phone with someone in india, and even though they no longer have the "triple play" plan I have, I'm sure they'll tell me there's some huge upcharge for dropping a service.

Also, caught my cell phone service adding $10 to the bill, related to device coverage. They claim to have removed it (we'll see if that sticks after this month) but could did not tell me why it was increased in the first place. Also did not respond to why, though I owe $0 on my phone, if I want a new one there's $44 to pay "to pay off my device.". Another conversation I'll have to have.

I got the cold recently. I didn't think I could catch the cold in the summer. That pisses me off too! I'm over it now, but fuck what miserable week it was.
My part of Kiwi Land has higher than average temperatures right now and I've noticed it's bothering my sinuses some. TBF, I think I may have read that pollen counts may be higher right now which would explain it, but it doesn't change the fact that people seem to be dealing with colds and sinus issues more than expected during the summer months.

They claim to have removed it (we'll see if that sticks after this month)
I have a similar issue I need to resolve. I finally upgraded my internet service recently and the telco is still billing me for my old service in addition to the new service. I loathe the time I'll have spend in the phone tree trying to explain the issue and the subsequent time being put on hold before I have to ask someone, "Why am I still being billed for service I don't have?" in hopes they can give me any sort of answer and satisfactory resolution.

I don’t ask for much from my coworkers. I couldn’t give less of a fuck what you do when you’re on the clock. All I ask is that you show up on time so I can leave when I’m supposed to. Being ~5 minutes late here and there is understandable, no harm done. Being consistently 30+ minutes late every single day, despite knowing your retarded, disrespectful ass is preventing others from leaving and doing what they need to do in their private lives, yeah at that point I’m gonna make your work life a living hell and rat your ass out and have the superiors be on you like stink on Lizzo. All you had to do was not be a nigger and you can’t even manage that.
