SCREW THE LOCALIZATION TEAM! I hate that they used the "it's more in line with the Japanese script" card even though there's literally 0 things from said script! It was a legit excuse to censor the game without respecting the original writing at all. So now we have a script without the charm of the English Version AND without the authenticity of the Japanese script.

The Localizers did us a massive service, actually, by mentioning the troon stuff only once.

If you were to ask me why they cut out Bedlam calling Vivian out and the other references to her being a femboy, I'd list two reasons:
  • Gobshites in America would be BAFFLED to see where Vivian ends up at the end of the game, after that.
  • Vivian doesn't have a body, due to being a shadow, and the Japanese writers forgot this. Plus Goombella wouldn't know what the heck a male shadow is supposed to look like.

Third option: even fictional transphobia triggers trans people. Remember that pro-trans media censor the 'deadnames' of even fictional transgender people.

Sometimes it's nice to being reminded on how much worse the TTYD dialogue could've been, thank you for that!

...Even though it doesn't make me hate the localization any less.

Vivian being a trans or a femboy doesn't matter to me, but I will still say this: I'm baffled that the localizers really just changed a whole character, removed all the negative things about it and had the guts to say "This is what this character was always meant to be, this is the original japanese script, this is what the original writers wanted" and people eat it up without questioning it at all. It disgusts me, and if you find this censoring as disgusting as I do, you're labeled as a transphobic swine. Truth doesn't matter if it doesn't benefit your agenda, and people are 100% okay with it.

Mother fucking trannies
I was gonna give you a tophat again, but after thinking how much this horrendous writing and censoring wouldn't happen if an agenda didn't exist, I just have to agree.

TTYD remake is fine, in a non-biased view of the game's localization the censored lines are less than 1% of the OG script, but all the people responsible for this change made such a horrible job that I hope most people just start either modding their game with the og japanese fan-translation or the 2004 Localization instead.

I don't care as much when it's Sony or Microsoft sucking the girldick, but it just really blows to see Nintendo fall in line with it now, especially with Mario of all things. Like damn, is nothing sacred?

I feel ya, but I have no idea what to say besides... yeah... (:_(

I'm just so used to see my favorite things being changed for the worse that I don't really have the energy anymore to be truly angry about it. Call it doomposting, but I already accepted that I can't change anything about the current mainstream media, specially seeing hundreds and thousands of people approving the censorship that is the TTYD remake.

I mean, Vivian is still a weak pushover who forgets that she personally knew the Shadow Queen, practically to the point of being a traitor. (Not too far off from a Discord kitten, really.)

What do you think was a flaw about them in the original that hasn't carried over? Vanity?

This situation reminds me of the Unicorn Overlord discourse, where people were up in arms over the localization, only for it to come out that the original Japanese writing was bland and godawful. Intelligent Systems wrote the remake of TTYD, and they haven't had good writers since... what, Super Paper Mario?

If only every region had its own perfectly good, already finished script written 20 years ago that they could just copy/paste with minimal effort. Instead they need twice as many localizers as the original game had so they can all make sure the writing is as neutered as possible.

Ok that got me good hue.

Well, I should've worded better, I don't think Vivian is a flawless individual, as much as I think people are less harsh on her overall, Beldam isn't as mean as the japanese script (with the obvious "transphobia") or even og english script, and that makes me think that they made this decision because they wanted to keep her as the uwu girl that can do no wrong. Same thing with some other characters being mean to her, but they're very minor.

All that talk about Vivian being trans but without the flaws really just meant that we don't see any other characters being mean about it because she's trans, and all that talk about "being true to the original script" just feels like a wet fart. I'm just really dissatisfied with the localization because there's nothing valuable, no charm from the english script, no authenticity from the japanese script.

I did like MOST of the Fire Emblem Three Houses writing... and I guess some Origami King dialogue was cool... but in general yeah, there hasn't been a game with an overall good writing since Super Paper Mario.

Speaking of localizations, censorings and Three Houses: this reminds me of the Bernadetta censorship they addded in an update in a few months after the game got realized.

For those who never played Three Houses, basically Bernadetta is a girl who has severe anxiety and panic attack disorders that mostly came of her child abuse from her father. This is one of the few backstories expositions you hear from this abuse. It was the medieval ages afterall.

It's essentially the same thing, but the intensity of the situation is just gone. It's harder for me to sympathize with a character if their childhood "apparently" wasn't as bad as it seems. I guess it's more subtle... but I prefer the more emotional tone of the original version.

(Note how they got rid of "submissive wife", maybe we should've seen that coming with the Bowser dialogue.)

In my opinion, they can flesh out characters just fine, but they are not very good at plots.

And all of the plots in Three Houses, other than Silver Snow, were written by the Fire Emblem Warriors team.

Frankly, fleshing out characters is easier than writing a series of events that make sense. Making a character 3-dimensional or giving them hidden depths is nice and all, but it's the writer's equivalent of busy work.

Man, I really miss when Fire Emblem games had good world-building (FE4, FE6 and FE9 were my favorites in that aspect), nowadays, you can tell that the writers are writing the characters first and the world around them second, which sucks when you're reading any non-support dialog. (and even then, some characters that they create are just awful, I'm looking at you Engage)

I blame the autists which hyperfixiate on specific characters/waifus for this.

Transphobic swine
The irony bc chapter 4

Well, that was a pretty fun game. I had already sold my GameCube at GameStop before it came out, so I didn't get to play it when I was a kid. I've had the rom for like a decade, but I never got around to playing it until last year. I had JUST reached Petalburg when the remake was announced, so I decided to just wait and play the new version.

I'm getting there too. A part of me was just hoping the core Nintendo franchises would be spared at the very least. The only good thing is TTYD is basically the only Mario game with a sexual degenerate in it for them to latch onto, aside from Birdo who never really does anything.

They're cute in design, sure, but what makes a man want to actually masturbate to that?
It's incomprehensible. You can't figure it out, and you probably don't want to.

For real, i never thought i'd see it, but there's people out there gooning for characters like Bow or Goombella. They're cute in design, sure, but what makes a man want to actually masturbate to that?
Do they jack off to the normal designs, or humanoid redesigns?

Edit: According to bing image search, looks like it's both, but mostly the latter.

But how does one fuck Goombella? Goombas do not have vaginas or buttholes.

Goombella? more like Goonbella
