As might be guessed from the anime pfp, "Xe Iaso" (user Within) is a troon. Born Samuel Carl Dodrill on March 30, 1993, he transitioned to Christine Dodrill. The footer of his website says "Copyright 2012-2024 Xe Iaso (Christine Dodrill)" so Xe (pronounced zee) may be mostly a pen name.

But Xe is not just any troon. He claims to be a plurality and many of his blog posts feature these personas commenting in asides annotated with more anime pics.

One of his major GitHub projects is called waifud.

It is uncertain whether he is also a furry.

Like a typical troon activist, he is demanding censorship of others. If any wrongthinker is allowed even to contribute to the project with the commit bit, then he will leave. In a sane world, someone behaving like that and unable to work with others would be encouraged towards the exit. But no, we're seeing capitulation, with Jon Ringer now permanently banned because he wrote posts explaining why he shouldn't be banned.

Oh no, the anime tranny furry is leaving the community guys, please pay attention to him :(

Also "You know who I am" lol
I bet he will come running back when all of the other wrongthink is "purged" the way the NixOS jannie hexa said as Nix is amazing technology & alternatives like Ansible suck donkey balls in comparison. Oh! And there are more miltech companies using Debian or whatever other popular Linux distro than NixOS, to ones suprise.

Except tables were broken in IE6. That meant getting a consistent, basic layout across browsers meant adding a bunch of extra testing shit to fix the layout for IE, which wasn't updated to address the problem for years.
That whole era was characterized by misimplemented standards because Ballmer just plain did not give a shit. MSVC would not compile valid C++ code. MS Java didn't fully implement I think the 1.2 standard. Linux may have had a harder time getting off the ground if Ballme4's stupid EEE strategy had never seen the light of day, making Windows a colossal pain in the ass to deal with.

I once sent a link to the GitHub profile of that lunatic to my coworker to ruin his day, he now refuses to open any links from me unless I provide an explanation of it first. More normies should be forced to witness the insanity walking among us.

This has crossover with some makerspace YouTubers but I think it's best to post this here because this thread might have better input.

Open Sauce 2024 just happened and there was some drama with manufacturer Bantam Tools.
Earlier this year, Evil Mad Scientists (EMS), the creators of the Axidraw pen plotter, was acquired by Bantam Tools and halted production on their old Axidraw robots. The Axidraw robots are built on open source and are quite fine machines in my opinion - robust, made in America, and easy to hack. With the EMS guys in their C Suite, Bantam tools releases a new machine called Nextdraw that is their updated Axidraw. There's some nice QOL upgrades but $700 is too steep. I haven't touched one myself, but some people I know that used it say that it is more closed source than before and harder to work with.
Anyways, Bantam tools set up shop at the fair and posted this tweet:

And also posted many other tweets of YouTubers alongside portraits drawn by their Nextdraw.
Then William Osman, the creator of Open Sauce claims that Bantam declined sponsorship to the event and snuck inside.

This tweet blew up with 100k+ likes and everyone trashes on Bantam. Bantams tweets gets community noted.

The Bantam account and CEO post an explanation, saying that they thought sponsorships were for giant companies and booths were for DIY creators, so they thought that they didn't fit in anywhere. They claim that they talked to the Open Sauce team for where they should go and the con team set them up there.

So that's it yea? Well no. People notice a suspicious piece of dialog under Bantams tweet

It appears that a marketing employee at Bantam commanded a bot to praise and defend the company. So people try to hijack the bot account to expose it. Screenshot_20240623-172448.png
I doubt that Bantam actually commanded a bot to praise their company because Bantam's first tweet was made on June 15, 2024, Osman's tweet is posted on June 20, 2024 3:17pm, Bantam posts a response at 4:20pm, and then the bot shills Bantam at 5:13pm on the controversial tweet five days after it was posted, and then responds to itself.
Either way people are dunking on Bantam and even though it looks to be a misunderstanding, it will be a stain on their brand.

To add a bit more to this some users are commenting about it in this tweet saying that its fake and gay because the account is called "Arthur Baitson" and also because of how ridiculous the situation is, so it might be gayops to get more engagement and publicity, even if its negative, which in that case so far it has worked as that single tweet has 1M views in time of writing.

And with that pesky huwite male Stallman out of the way, the institutional capture is complete.

He is still there on the Board of Directors, but at age 71 the toe jam can't sustain him forever:

A bunch of compromised orgs tried to defund it in response, supposedly not having much of an impact. This was in March-April 2021, and I'm not sure if that's considered before or after peak #MeToo. If any of them have come crawling back, I'd like to know that too.

Dunno if this is off topic, but what is this new sperging about ARM processors on Desktop/Laptop PCs all of the sudden? Everywhere I look there seems to be some sort of retarded slapfight between ARM Simps and x86 Simps.
Maybe it's just me.

I'd also stay away from ARM, anyways:
https://www.qualcomm.com/news/relea...announces-strategic-cooperation-tencent-games
The ARM simps say "but intel also has backdoors" to which they need to be informed that Qualcomm is basically owned by Chinese tech companies, is the biggest manufacturer of ARM processors and Tencent has some shares in it. This doesn't just glow, it's shining brighter than the sun.

From my perspective, having new power-efficient options for PCs is great for those coding on the go. Plus, it's great having a new reason for NOT buying a Mac.
However, I suggest you ask this to the GPUs & CPUs & Enthusiasts thread.

The sperging is because Qualcomm has launched Snapdragon X Elite for Windows on ARM laptops, with a lot of input from Microsoft. Overrated and overpriced as usual. It competes with the x86 mobile processors from AMD (Phoenix/Hawk, Strix Point) and Intel (Raptor/Meteor/Lunar Lake).

Qualcomm AI/Copilot PCs don’t live up to the hype (archive)
Snapdragon X Elite laptops last 15+ hours on our battery test, but Intel systems not that far behind (archive)

Ah yes, Qualcomm, based in that famous Chinese city of San Diego.
(It does have a Chinese-sounding name, to be fair.)
woops, sorry. I forgot to add that chinese companies like tencent are (allegedly) buying shares in qualcomm. I also heard something about a Huawei and qualcomm partnership, but i lost interest and i can't find the links to it anymore.
Someone, in a private conversation, explained to me it may be due to the AI Tech Bubble.

Hyrum's Law
Excuse the late reply, but it always amuses me to see this law mentioned. It even has a website:
With a sufficient number of users of an API,
it does not matter what you promise in the contract:
all observable behaviors of your system
will be depended on by somebody.
It just tickles me that a Google employee wrote this, and decided it was some fundamental quality of the universe, rather than an indictment of Google's shitty software practices. The website goes on to mention that Israeli faggot's Law of Leaky Abstractions for good measure, another law trying to explain away bullshit as somehow unavoidable.

Dave2D did a review on one of the new Asus laptops that has the new Snapdragon in it, with the new Windows/x86 emulation. My biggest concerns about going into the ARM world on laptops/desktops is the ability to run Linux. Microsoft famously required UEFI for their windows mobile phones, but the bootloaders were locked down. People were able to crack them, but I don't think anyone really cared enough to try to reverse engineer drivers for a whole generation of Windows Mobile Nokias that are now just e-junk.

The biggest questions should be around if these laptops support UEFI and if you can unlock the bootloaders. Is installation just like a traditional PC with a bootable USB stick, or is it the typical ARM "flash this custom per-device base image" garbage?

ARM SoCs are such a clusterfuck of DeviceTree files and soldering random pins to random buses on each and every variant of a device. We're already in a world where if you want to run Lineage/Graffine/Whatever-Android-Rom, people go and see what device is supported and then buy hardware based on the OS they want to run. That's totally backwards from how Linux grew on the PC architecture. I don't want to see desktops/laptops going the same route, where specific distros have to create images just for specific laptop brands; and people buy regular hardware based on what they want to run.
