Democrats are despairing over President Joe Biden’s debate performance Thursday night, a showing so halting some even privately raised questions about whether he should remain the party’s nominee.

Biden appeared onstage with a soft, halting voice and an open-mouthed, staring look. He struggled to finish thoughts at points, and ceded ground on issues like abortion where Democrats have an edge.

It took just minutes for Democrats to realize how bad it was becoming.

“Biden looks and sounds terrible. He’s incoherent,” one Democrat who spent time working in the Biden administration said.

“Horrific,” said another Democratic operative.

And one Democrat who’s worked on campaigns up and down the ballot said simply: “We are f***ed.”

The looming question as the debate came to a close was almost existential: Should someone else top the Democratic ticket?

“It’s hard to argue that Biden should be our nominee,” said an operative who’s worked on campaigns at all levels for over a decade.

This debate was historic for many reasons, but not least because it is taking place before each man is formally nominated at their respective conventions. The Democratic National Convention is set to convene August 19 in Chicago.

Democrats have spent much of the past year handwringing about Biden’s chances of beating Trump in an election many view as an existential one that will decide the very survival of American democracy. But Biden himself was determined to be the one to take on Trump, at one point even saying directly: “If Trump wasn’t running, I’m not sure I’d be running.”

No serious Democratic challengers stepped up to run against Biden, and at this point in the campaign he’d have to decide to step aside if Democrats were to pick another nominee. If Biden did withdraw, the Democratic nomination would be decided on the floor.

Democrats were even talking about who it might be instead: “If I was Gavin (Newsom) or Gretchen (Whitmer), I’d be making calls tonight,” one said.

I didn't think Trump did particularly well tonight so the fact Dems are on suicide watch is genuinely surprising
Sometimes all you have to do to win is just show up and hang in there, and hope(or in this case, know) that your competition will just completely fumble everything or disconnect.

Oh no! Hunter lost his dad and step mom in a fiery unfortunate car crash! Police say Jill let Joe take the corvette out for a spin after the big win tonight.
Holy shit, could you imagine if they tried for a Biden presidential dynasty by nominating Hunter for the Democrat candidacy? Would that be better or worse than Kamala?

Well the "convicted felon" soundbite would immediately go the way of the dodo, that's for damn sure.

"Convicted Felon" sounds cool, and he wasn't convicted of anything that people would morally outraged over (like if he banged or killed a kid or something) so his conviction just makes him seem cool.

America has always idolized criminals from Jesse James to Bonnie & Clyde, Mafia movies, The Sopranos, 40 years of Hip-Hop, if they think saying Trump is a convicted felon will do anything but gain him votes then they are out of touch.

Ask the people of Toronto. Their former mayor, Rob Ford, smoked crack while in office. As much of a colossal fuckup as Hunter is, he's at least still likable to a degree, whereas no one likes Kamala. If nothing else, it'd certainly be more entertaining as Harris sucks all joy from any room she's in.

It really doesn't matter who the DNC picks, they'd be just as much of a puppet as Biden was. Someone like Hunter that they can keep under their thumb (and who would be glad to stay there as long as they give him more crack) is perfect as far as they're concerned. They need some schlub with no ambition of his or her own that people will vote for while the party machine runs the show.

Fetterman is more interesting, but the problem there is his health. He has people screaming at him to stop eating donuts and take it easy so he doesn't get another stroke. But he has shown his willingness to get away from the wokies and the commies and can keep Trump from getting enough Midwest states that he needs.
I've seen some particular xitter retards suggest this but I have no idea what the obsession with the guy is. His only notable trait is being a drooling invalid and bring too cavalier with his career when it comes to toeing the Dem party line. I live in PA and no one there talks about him, ever. The entire 2022 midterm election might as well have been memory holed. If he was normal, then he'd be yet another unremarkable junior senator whose properly working walnut would have him keep his chrome dome down and stop making the party look bad.
The only cool thing he did was chase black people around with a shotgun while he was mayor of some bumblefuck town.

Don't even have to look across the border. Or even beyond DC to find a mayor who smoked crack in office. Democrat mayor Marion Barry was arrested for it in 1990:
On January 18, 1990, Barry was arrested with a former girlfriend, Hazel Diane "Rasheeda" Moore, in a sting operation at the Vista International Hotel by the FBI and D.C. police for crack cocaine use and possession.[54] Moore was an FBI informant when she invited Barry to the hotel room and insisted that he smoke freebase cocaine before they had sex, while agents in another room watched on camera, waiting for Barry to accept her offer. During the videotaped arrest, Barry says of Moore, "Bitch set me up...I shouldn't have come up here...g--d--- bitch".[55]

I wonder if they just dosed him with the placebo rather than the real Dr. Feelgood juice and let him fall on his own.

Joe grins uncontrollably like a coke fiend twice, so maybe a case of "prescription too strong"? Or just an elderly patient beyond anything further than palliative care, as likely. Miserable old pedophile, no more appropriate fate, frankly.

Either way CNN seemed unflustered by his display of dementia. Psychopathic focus on ratings or political plot to parachute in their preferred candidate, or even why not both?

Doesn’t the reaction and panic of Dems prove that the election is NOT rigged?

If Dems were skilled enough to rig elections and get away with it, a bad debate performance would be irrelevant.
the rig only goes so far
you can rig something like a 45-55 into a 52-48, no problem, especially when your own people were all expecting to win anyway
but when your own people are all totally checked out and have no faith and no trust in your candidate, then rigging it into a win will make even your own guys suspicious and question what the hell was going on, which undermines your legitimacy and credibility among your own supporters and puts you on very thin ice. it would become ever more difficult to keep up the facade.

In addition to undermining his legitimacy among his supporters, if they rig an election for him with things looking as bad as they currently do, you can kiss goodbye any foreign policy agenda, because the rest of the world doesn't make deals with democratic governments they view as illegitimate.

Foreign politicians are still politicians; they'll make deals as long as gravy keeps flowing.

I ask this not as a "gotcha" but as a complete historical ignoramus: is there any evidence that late Soviet geriatric leadership was ever this publicly senile?
by virtue of not really having the pretense of democracy the Soviets were better at sequestering their leadership and limiting public appearances.
But Brezhnev got pretty bad towards the end
