This is a guy I've explained in the Weeaboo thread before. I call him Subject K.
K is a reddit user who frequents the Gundam subreddit. He might be on his eighth account right now and it's not a matter of him coming back after multiple bans. But I'm getting ahead of myself here. Let's back up.
K really likes the current Gundam show, Iron Blooded Orphans. Like a lot, and as such posts about it almost exclusively. He will post any and all news regarding the show, so long as it makes the show look like a massive success. And he doesn't like people talking shit about the show, and that's where the multiple accounts come in. In order to defend IBO, he had seven accounts active at the same time in order to try and control the discussion.
See, it's not a big community by reddit standards. Each new episode gets maybe 300 replies in the discussion thread, that being the largest thread of the week. You're not going to get massive amounts of Reddit Karma there, so imagine what a guy with seven accounts can do. If people complain, he can quickly bury them while boosting his own side. This guy had the gall to tell people stuff like "this is a thread discussing IBO. If you're going to complain about it you should leave." And this persisted for months until people finally had enough of him, but that's later on. He also wanted posting material from /m/ to be a bannable offense.
Now, I mentioned how he posts stuff relating to the show almost exclusively. He was flooding the feed at one point, enough that a few individuals came out and said they were avoiding the subreddit because it was all about IBO. But he didn't want to hear about how the first season wasn't popular in Japan. Like at all. Even if people sourced their info, he would arrogantly dismiss them as haters. Correction, hater as he began accusing people of being socks of other guys as well as some guy on the Gundam forums. His attitude got worse as time went on, complaining people were discussing other shows.
Here's an example. He was getting agitated that a second season wasn't announced, and when Daisuki said they had news for Gundam fans he took it as they were announcing season 2. Some people pointed out to him that they could be announcing they were streaming the TV version of Gundam Unicorn (which they did), but he dismissed them as saying it was an announcement for Gundam fans. Daisuki then said they had no info on there being a season 2, and K flipped out. He made a thread discussing with his alternate accounts how shit Japan's tastes were, including a healthy dose of racial swears. It was deleted, and season 2 was announced.
He also tries to start shit with fans of other shows. Mostly Gundam Reconguista in G. ANN created this narrative about how it was this massive flop that no one liked (despite a pile of evidence to the contrary), and their readers repeated that. So imagine what happens when despite receiving much more promotion, IBO was selling around the same as G-Reco (still a lot by modern standards)? K goes on about how IBO has a higher average, resulting in people pointing of the volume to volume sales, as well as IBO vol 1 being sold at half price as well as pointing out you don't compare averages when IBO had just started. He tried this again when the releases were nearly done, but numbers were a lot closer with two more volumes to go (he thought it was the final). One of the last straws people had with him was him linking to a podcast saying "I like G-Reco, but I agree with these guys that the only reason it's liked is because Tomino was the director. The show is a mess." When people were finally calling him out, he tried to laugh it off as people giving him shit for not liking the show.
In the end, he kinda knew his time was up. People kept calling him out on having multiple accounts, as his posting style was real obvious with poor grammar and random capitalization, but he maintained that really the people complaining were the ones with socks. He said 16 members were the same guy, but never said who. He then urged people to leave reddit and join him on the Gundam forums. Someone compiled a lot of evidence supporting those accounts they were all K and sent it to the mods, who finally decided to do something about it. K tried deleting some of his accounts, but the rest got suspended before he could finish. 7 accounts in total.
Almost immediately, a new account was created. Same arguments, same tastes (MGS V and coming off like a complete edgelord) and a similar posting style. It's believed by some this is K evading the ban, but the mods are apparently giving him a second chance until he acts out again. He's also on the Toonami Reddit a good bit now, defending the show by lying his ass off. He'll talk about the latest episodes with the Gundam fanbase, then turn around and act like he's seeing the show for the first time with the dub. One point he even said "the first half of season one was pretty bad, but I hear the second half is amazing" (many people think the second half is weaker) despite fanboying the show over there. He's claimed he's in middle school, but given the discussion leading into this (middle schoolers wouldn't watch the show), there's doubt.
Also goes into the ratings threads to continuously say the show is doing fine despite how many people stop watching Toonami when it comes on. Even when Jojo loses 300k from DBZ, IBO somehow manages to lose another 150k on top of that. IBO used to lose 300k, but that was when the lead-in was One Punch Man which held onto DBZ viewers. To K, the guy in charge of the block having to say things are fine (despite the noticeable drop in ratings since IBO started) is good enough. Like, he doesn't seem to grasp people in television wouldn't advertise their programming isn't doing well over social media.
Last part of this was the recent marathon. They did one for Halloween, since they thought people would be out partying on Saturday rather than watching imported cartoons. All IBO, so people began talking about how it was going to tank. K went and made a bet with someone that IBO would pull in three episodes with over a million viewers, and told the guy if IBO did so he would have to eat a raw chicken on his podcast. Guy pointed out how sick someone could get doing that and how rare triple millions have been lately, never mind for a marathon. Instead he proposed that by the third episode the ratings for the target demo would drop under a reasonable .37 like the show would pull on a regular night. Show pulled under that mark and not even one episode scored a million viewers.
K at least admitted his loss. Have to give him props for that.
Oh yeah, one more thing on K. He's really souring on Toonami ratings threads. When IBO first started airing in the States, he would pull up ratings to brag about how good it was doing. However, Toonami's ratings began dropping. First IBO was the big loss of the night when One Punch Man was in the second slot (taking it from IBO 6 episodes in), losing around 300 viewers each week. Then Jojo (another show he likes) replaced OPM and Jojo began losing those viewers, with IBO losing another 150k on top of that.
Toonami's overall ratings are down right now. There are a lot of reasons as to why. Early shows don't hold viewers that well (except DBZ and OPM), and the later half of the block are all long-runners (OP, Naruto HxH). But K doesn't want to talk about this, especially since two shows he likes are taking heavy fire. So as I said before, he's constantly repeating what the guy in charge of the block says on social media, as well as telling people it's none of their business to discuss the ratings. He's accusing the subreddit of being a circlejerk about it.
Toonami just announced they're airing Gundam Unicorn after IBO, and K is now telling people on r/Gundam some of the guys on r/Toonami are Gundam haters. Like, he goes into the ratings threads with this attitude and desire to defend the show, and now he's calling other guys haters who want IBO off Toonami. Wow. Then he's on r/Toonami telling people to give Unicorn a chance.
Like, it doesn't occur to him at all that maybe, just maybe, people will like Gundam if they get one that suits their tastes. IBO wasn't to some people's tastes and it reflected in the ratings. Maybe Unicorn will, but that's in the future and thus uncertain. But then again, this is a guy who called a thread discussing why the block's ratings have dropped a circlejerk and seems to have picked up a bad rep over there.
The guy really has an attitude problem.
