Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

and I'm here trying to repress the manic laughter at how many better shows at best got one season (which in modern animation terms means they never actually had support) or never made it past the pilot.
God, you fucking core memoried me with this line and I am now just sad thinking about the great cartoons that never got more than a season when they fucking deserved so much more like Tron uprising and Motorcity.

Powerpuff Girls was rebooted? I had no clue.

I'm catching up on the fourth season of Wakfu right now.
Damn, I am way behind. If I recall correctly it's deity time right?
Can't lie, ever since it was confirmed that Enutrof knows some of his followers give 0 in tribute and responds to promises to multiply those tributes accordingly I've been fairly on board with seeing more of them.
IMO it's just as good as the series peak, the second half of the first season.
You can say the wizard vs dragon fight. Everyone who's seen the first season knows where it peaked.

If you removed all those episodes and don't know a thing about the original ppgs then the reboot comes of as a mediocre by the book nostalgia cash grab that was so prevalent at the time.

These episodes are pushed into a state of failure that few reboots can top, like i can forgive ttg more than i can pp 2016

(Subsequently its hard to belive its almost been a full decade since pp 2016..that's almost a quarter of the time it's been since the original)

This feels like a fake conservative cartoon that would be in a CalArts Bean Mouth show.
Conservatives need to learn they can't throw the same one note strawman jokes back at leftists and expect people to laugh. When even we on the kfs don't like your attempt to stick it too woke toons, then you fucked up...badly.

From what I've heard, only a few execs at Adult Swim were enthusiastic about Pibby, almost everyone else at the network thought it would a huge pain in the butt to deal with.
All I can say is based on what they actually tended to do with pibi from outright stealing better concepts from other shows (the stolen chainsaw man villian) to being mouthpiecing for whiny dei sperging, AS may have gone downhill in recent years bit its good to know they know when to flush a turd when they see it before it stinks.

What? This is the first I'm hearing of Pibby getting a concept change from "glitchy across-the-cartoon-i-verse" horror shit to "mouthpiece for DEI sperg." Care to fill a brother in?

That "hittin the dab" from the glitchmess and "Yosemite Sam becoming 'le evil' by being the same but with realistic guns instead" should really tell you everything.

He also guest starred in an episode of Dexter's Laboratory during Season 3 alongside Fred Willard
Honestly one of the only truly enjoyable episodes of that season in my opinion

What's with the amount of hate that the Savino era of Dexter's Lab gets? I understand that it wasn't as good as the pre cancellation seasons but objectively it wasn't that bad. If you ask me, I think most of the hate towards the Savino era of Dexter's Lab was biased. Aside from the fact that Savino himself is a piece of human trash, I've seen far worse.

The animation in that era of Dexter's Lab wasn't even that bad either, sure it's different and a bit basic, the backgrounds in the third season may have been a bit lazy but it was UPA inspired. Not just that but it was the style at the time as geometric shapes were the dominant style of the 00s (ie Fairly OddParents, Billy and Many) You also can't fault them for switching to digital ink and paint, due to how quickly technology was progressing during that time period. Clone High had the same style as Savino Dexter (I read somewhere that this was due to them having the same designer) yet it's praised for it's angular style.

tbf it is only that there were differences. Think of the Max's Clone High gets shit for changing the design philosophy to fit with the times. People are always going to have a problem with drastic visual changes, especially so if they feel like a downgrade.

Anyone else seen the trailer for The Oatmeal's Netlfix show Exploding Kittens, based on the card game?

I'm going to be cautiously optimistic, I've seen better, but I've also seen much worse, and there were a few bits that made me chuckle.

Call me a prude but I find the concept a bit too blasphemous to enjoy. I don't have a problem with religious satire/parody, when done well it can be extremely enjoyable, but this feels a bit too demeaning, making the protagonist god himself learning a lesson feels like its bitting off more than it can chew and makes the whole thing seem like a mockery.

Maybe an angel or something would fit more.

Good point. It doesn't make sense that God would need to be "rehabilitated", so he can "connect" with humans; they're His creation, if anything it should be the other way around.

There was a show years ago called God, The Devil, and Bob that handled religion well in a way that was humorous, but not insulting. Shame it only lasted 13 episodes.

Most religious satire/parodies I've seen that I consider good generally speaking tend to leave capital G god out of it and focus more on either the church and/or the hierarchy of angels, because its much easier to make fun of something that's fallible instead of trying to poke holes in the infallibility of god.

It also makes it easier for a more religious audience to enjoy.

That's a cute show. I watched the first episode you linked and I'll probably watch the rest. I thought the depiction of god as being slightly obtuse was clever.

You know...SpongeBob really is a monkeys paw story. It was an instant success in a long line of successes and the shot in the arm the network needed after ren and stimpy ended, doug got sold to Disney and rugrats was starting to go stale. Not to mention the year it premiered viewers were going to cartoon network for the cartoon cartoons especially on Fridays.

But then after the success came time to pay the piper. The show became the measuring stick nick would use to judge all shows that came after it. It became nicks equivalent to micky mouse or bugs bunny which meant merchandise to hell and back, and of course there was the fact that nick kept it going on and on not just that but also ordering more seasons and more episodes to fill out their schedule when they needed something to marathon.

Even after Stephen wanted to end the show with the movie. It kept going. It showed promise when he returned and tried to turn the show around but then Stephen died. But his creation didn't, and it only got worse with him gone. I don't know just how much control he had over the show but from what I can tell he was the ONLY reason things like camp koral or the Patrick show or Sandy's movie were all shot down before they could be made.

He also kept the show free from gross out which had been so prevalent in the 90s, and kept the cultural references to a minimum. When he left the gross out got amped up to tye max and now that he's dead...the show has become pure pandering, desperate to catch the attention of the tiktok generation.

There a moral in this? He'll if I know...maybe the age old be careful what you wish for...or make a deal with the devil be prepared for the devils due.
