A finance blogger I've followed for a long time named Mish Shedlock gives the best analysis I've seen yet on what Biden's endgame is. He believes they're desperately trying to hang on until he's the official nominee because DNC rules say they get to choose the nominee if he quits after.

I think that is more complex and requires more planning than these people are capable of.

A much simpler explanation is that if they remove him they have to have someone to replace him with.

Two small, less than 20 employee, excavating company owners I know from the Gulf Coast have shifted focus from bidding small-medium commercial projects to local and state projects. 2024 ain’t 2020, I’m not saying they won’t try or even necessarily that they won’t succeed but the fact of the matter is it’s a vastly different playing field. In 2020 the circumstances were a little more than slightly in their favor and they had massive amounts of money and institutional power behind them. Now, they’re fighting a massive uphill battle with way fewer resources. Of course we should not become complacent, but objectively speaking things ain’t looking good for their odds.
