It's the same with Netflix, and TV in general. None of them produce anything of value. There was a time Netflix was great value and had a big selection, and that was in the UK where we have the gimped version of Netflix. Now it's basically worthless. And now megacorps like Disney believe they're entitled to your time and money. That they deserve it and providing a service is a gift.

YouTube doesn't even make it's own content, just hosts it for other people, but has been hostile to those people for years now. So they have even less ground to complain.

Sooner or later boomers have got to learn that they can't make line go up indefinitely, and that enshitification certainly won't make it go up. It's like that Valve meme. "Does nothing. Wins."

Kino to open-source and Brave. Also uBlock Origins still work fine on Firefox. Fuck purchasing subscription and greedy Pajeets trying to blackmail me for expensive subscription bullshit for no value at all. Open-source is my new buddy now. :jacefedora:

Watching ads is same as paying them, indirectly but it is what it is. There are many reasons to abandon YT, or at the very least not pay them directly. There is only one obscure small channel that I give a fuck about on YT. I haven't had issues on FF yet, but once ads become unavoidable, I'm gone.

Already happening. Microshit has been rising on the stock market not just because of the AI boom but because fucking Bing is now a valid competitor to Google search.

That's why companies in general only ever deserve the stick, and close to never the carrot.
That's also why piracy is not only justified and neccessary, but also virtuous.

I understand that megablobs like google don't really care about the stick, but only for so long. That's also why you don't play fair with them, why should you? Let them bleed money forever in the chase of the few couch bucks. Eventually there isn't enough money to bleed anymore (see Disney). Fuck these entities, fuck everyone who is employed by them. You get bribed well enough for me to not care what happens to you.

I paid for Youtube Premium ages ago with the 'family plan'. Does take a bit of work, $6/mo to skip all ads on videos+music is cheaper than my beard trimming by my favorite ladyboi barber.

That's the most disgusting part of it. Pretty much every channel I watch has had issues or is consistently demonitised and forced to neuter its content. Why would I pay the fuckers who are making life more difficult for the people I want to watch? If YouTube had supported its creators well I might have become a paypig. As it is YouTube will never get a cent from me.

Shit, I was wondering why NewPipe wasn't loading last night. Ended up watching some stuff on Rutube instead :smug:

If adblocks get completely killed I'll stop watching stuff on YouTube. In all honesty, I've been watching less and less. It seems to be overwhelmingly slop these days and there are only one or two channels I'll actively check in on. Even shit I used to like and watch a few years ago devolved into faggy zoomer soy fave in thumbnail trash. It has become harder and harder to find decent content on YT.

I've been using Ublock in Firefox and Newpipe on Android and have yet to have any issues.

I think the version of Newpipe in the F-Droid store is not always the latest version. It's better to install it directly from their website and install updates when the app prompts you.
