Speaking of Sponsorblock, it is possible to make it work with Invidious instances with the help of a user script.
So is yt-dl not even able to download 720p anymore? Because it's defaulting to 360p now?
Update your yt-dlp, see if anything changes. Because I can download 720p videos just fine.
They are looking into injecting ads through HDMI output.

Since the arms race that started several months ago with the youtube popups and blacklisting you for using an adblocker I haven't had a problem. The problem was brave browser, once I disabled ad-blocking on brave uBO+my pihole catches everything, including youtube. I do not watch television, I primarily watch youtube almost exclusively and my own plex server for movies. However, I don't watch big youtubers with billions of followers. I only watch shit like kingcobrajfs and old pirated television shows where they don't really push advertisements like crazy. That could be why I'm not affected, I'm sure if I was to watch PewDiePie or MrFaggot content I would see streamed unskippable ads since that's where YouTube is most aggressive.

Grayjay has to be my favorite android app. My only problem with it is I can't figure out how to give them money lol
If you install GrayJay from Google Play, there's no option to pay for the app. Try downloading GrayJay directly from the website or an alternative app store (such as F-Droid) and there should be an in-app option to buy a license.

And yep, I bought a license because (a) it's a great app and (b) I'd rather pay for a product than be the product.

BTW GrayJay chads still winning as at the time of writing
Seems like the Grayjay issue is widespread and has began to pop up in the last 10 days also people are unable to download videos as well.
I've had the occasional glitch with downloading videos over the last 10 days, but it's been no worse than usual (and usually resolves itself when the app tries automatically downloading said video again). TBH Rumble and Odysneed give me far more problems on GrayJay than JewTube does.

The only real solution to this is to lobby hard enough that it becomes illegal to interfere with adblocking.
Anybody got a few tens of millions of dollars and about three years of their life to spare?
Every geriatric U.S. politician would tell you "well commercials are just part of watching television, even on the internet" along with the unfortunate reality that companies will lobby to kill adblockers, and adblockers aren't companies, and there is no real profit to be made from adblockers as an entity. Also something something companies have the right to do what they like on their platform, which legally could transform into some perverted Right to Ads (and no right to block them.)

If you want to win this fight you'll want to keep it out of the courts. It's a cat and mouse game, kind of like how malware and ransomware works. The companies have to spend money to defuse whatever tricks are invented to block ads. You're already in a winning position.

I see a lot of you guys in this thread are saying that you'll stop using YouTube altogether if they successfully break the Ad Blockers. But I wonder, what would you guys use instead? YouTube competitors like rumble and Story fire just cannot compete with the personalities on YouTube. Or would you guys just pick up a new hobby like cooking?

Asshole Google will keep trying to ban adblocks and dedicated autists will find ways around it.
Tale as old as time.

I'm just surprised Google is going so hard at it all of a sudden.
Pajeet says number must go up, so number must go up.

These people are not suffering financially

Ytdl on termux has been broken for me. I've tried a few different formats but I always get hit with a 403 error. No update has been pushed.

If you still can download videos do it now as 100% they're deploying region by region.
It's concerning to hear that you are having problems with yt-dlp.

I've definitely been downloading as many videos as I can. it's time consuming and I need more space heh.

By the way: Did you try to use yt-dlp on a different video and make sure the 403 is not cause it's age restricted? If you don't mind what general region are you in?

So is yt-dl not even able to download 720p anymore? Because it's defaulting to 360p now?

I just tried yt-dlp in my region (North America) and did not find any issues. 1080p worked fine, 720p works fine etc.

Maybe I'm just lucky or maybe they're rolling it out region by region.

The companies have to spend money to defuse whatever tricks are invented to block ads. You're already in a winning position.

Exactly. It's an arms race -- YouTube versus their entire user base.

It's good to be optimistic but a realistic assessment would show we are not in a winning technological position.

Google can do what Twitch did (the nuclear option: inject the ads into the HLS stream) and there's no technical solution to blocking the ads.

This is why the best thing you can do is become self reliant, download the content you want, and make Google fear creating more people who don't give a shit about YouTube and spend that watch time elsewhere.

I see a lot of you guys in this thread are saying that you'll stop using YouTube altogether if they successfully break the Ad Blockers. But I wonder, what would you guys use instead? I'm planning on a combination of several things... Relying on my own content library, using other services like Kick, and spending that extra time on gardening and other hobbies.

I know it puts me in a hardcore slave-mind minority for even paying for it but i legit have always considered Youtube Premium to be the best monthly bank drain out of me against any other service. I mean, hell people pay Discord like 10 bucks a month to use their custom emotes, is it that bad to pay for a service that gives me 13 hour family guy (NO CUT) without ads?
Dont even get me started how its a feature you pay for to be able to turn your phone screen off and keep a video going on mobile, what's even the reason for that?
Oh fuck im the problem
