Whoever she's quoting at the beginning had it right on the money. People act like Trump is the worst President ever because he believes all this horrible stuff, when it's more that he just openly made it public. Who's to say Bill Clinton didn't talk about pussy grabbing behind closed doors? Who's to say Obama didn't think Megyn Kelley was "bleeding down there" when going on a tangential tirade? Who's to say Reagan didn't want to do more with walls than just tear them down?

IIRC, when the new MST3k was announced, they pointed out how Rifftrax made it "their thing" to use more political humor in their writing, as did Cinematic Titanic. The intent was to stick to MST3k's original format, which occasionally used political references but tried not to show overt favoritism.
The old show seemed to run pretty left wing, especially in the earlier days.
At least with the original show there was some poking fun at both sides (which seems rare these days).
