This is true for rapid acting insulin but so far we’ve only heard about her having a long acting nightly insulin at 5 units. 5 units of any kind of insulin is a drop in the bucket for our big backed bountiful boulderesque beauty but the reality of the matter is that based on her lifestyle the ideal regimen for her would be as follows:

A basal long acting insulin regimen either at night or split in the morning and night. Keep increasing until her fasting morning glucose is 120 in US units, or 6.7 in what they’ve been using there. Then if her glucose is still off the rails after meals and ending up through the roof at night short acting insulin can be added to take with meals to better control.

My opinion is that chins having access to this short acting insulin would be dangerous as fuck because A. She has zero insight into her diabetes and how to manage it and B. She just wants to be able to check her sugar on live and stick it to the haters that she’s cured and ready for round 300 of mukbanging 250g of carbs in a sitting. She could never manage the regimen outside of some kind of come to Jesus/Allah/whatever revelation that she’s actively killing herself.
I think she would try so hard to over correct her astronomical glucose levels and hubcaps with rapid acting insulin that she would tank herself into dangerous hypoglycemia. She might be able to do it with what she already has. Who knows. How long she lives at this point will depend on how well her kidneys can bounce back from whatever hell they’ve been through.

I suspect that’s exactly what happened. It’s the explanation for them being out at 6.30 am (returning from a nightime drive across the desert), to coming home from the hospital and needing to set up her CPAP. Her CPAP had clearly done a trip somewhere. Also, why she waited a few days after becoming unwell to actually seek medical help.

Yeah, but it doesn't work that way, especially considering her body's insulin resistance (which is one of the major causes of T2 diabetes and is caused by, you guessed it, fat).

She needs to inject several smaller doses of insulin to get her blood sugar down, as one large dose won't process. The body only takes a certain amount of insulin at once, and with insulin resistance that's even more difficult to manage. All of this means she needs to truly observe her blood sugar very closely and introduce more insulin within a certain timeframe during which she obviously also needs to fast. That's why a consistent diet is so very important for people like her; she absolutely needs to limit her carb intake per meal so she can effectively counter her rising blood sugar with insulin after a meal.
