V-tubing may be literally the only entertainment industry where the quality of the content is proportional to how corporate it is, lmao. All these indie streamers just give up the point of playing characters and having an interesting personality, and just devolve into normal twitch streamers with an anime avatar.

If you have to have active visual feedback in a medium where people normally don't see your face to keep a character, then you were never able to keep a character to begin with. Just look at PreciousLeaf, he kept character like a boss just by using tardspeak and a few well-thought pictures

True, and I think the advances in Live2d and home 3d capture have only really been a crutch for stupid boring people to get into the scene. A lot of the best v-tubers have been around since close to a decade now, and for the first half or more they relied on models that are embarassing by today's standards. The best those could do was open the mouth only one way for a bit, and faces had to be switched manually. The visual part of the v-tubers was pretty much an added bonus, what really boosted people like Pekora, Marine, Tsukino Mito, and Rushia, and got even western audiences to watch them who had no knowledge of japanese at all, was that they were really entertaining and funny characters. Just their performance was enough to understand what was happening and get people interested not just to watch, but to engage with the vtubers as much as possible. (Of course, it wasn't just this, translators like Neko Mikuri were probably the primary cause for the initial boom, but people weren't just watching clips, these vtubers were getting their live viewers and subs multiplied too)
With most indie, especially American, v-tubers the best you can get is a generic anime dub girl voice, long, boring streams where they soullessly react to chat, and constant drama because they need to leech off the few decent ones. They don't understand performance, they just want to "be themselves", and somehow there is a base of retards who are willing to support these people.

It's like how all kids from around the early-2010s to 2018 wanted to be youtubers, but now we've gotten the short bus residents that can't even muster enough of a spine to stream using their own voice and doing let's plays of non-popular games. These are all trend followers that I hope will go out of the medium and return to a normal life sooner rather than later, because the other outcome is becoming famous and e-whoring yourself for almost the entirety of your best years or getting groomed by a Discord mod, just like Pippa did but in reverse.
They think they've got a chance with the girl behind the screen, obviously, while being smart enough to not go after the mega popular ones, but also dumb enough to realize that those girls aren't into you. In other words, midwits

Hell, I'll do you guys one better. The Japanese side of things has their own types of mentally deficient people. (For an example, Pekora or even Mikeneko) Yet, they remain popular because they can play their character well.
Now why do I mention Pekora? Pekora is a massive Introvert. She is so introverted, she literally can't handle multiple people in the IRL, even when she makes plans to go meet her fellow members, she will shut down and not go out. Pekora literally is known for being so introverted, she doesn't go out to meet others in her generation much and when she does, it's usually not with too many people. Of course, she is much better about it now, but then? She would be incapable of being functional like others might be (socially that is).
The other example is Mikeneko. Mikenko is a fucking nutcase who was nuclear over her then-fiance who was also a vtuber (MafuMafu) and when this got exposed? She goes to Japanese Keemstar and this goes into a full meltdown with, and funnily enough, a few Lolsuits which tanked what she earned from her time as Rushia in Hololive.
Yet these two are wildly successful. Pekora having tons of views and donos, being one of the most popular female streamers while Rushia is close to 1M despite the shit she has done that was exposed for everyone to see.
You just don't see that with EN vtubers. You really don't. There's maybe 1 or 2 exceptions to it but the EN side of things is full of the same type of retards who have vomit drawers (Pippa), are really nonfunctional and liberal (Tricky), and sad girls (All of Phase, Kiara from Hololive at times, and Kronii who is also apparently a VA from Canada, is Korean, and also a woman).
