I agree with everything you posted, I've just snipped it for ease.

The console market didn't have to shift, Sony are the ones doing the shifting. It's the stick-in-spokes meme IRL. Sony changed how they operated, then suprisepikachu faced when they moved from a winning strategy to a losing one. Hell, the majority (60% IIRC) are still happily using a PS4, four fucking years into a generation, and sony are going to try and drop a Pro on the market? For the first time in 5 generations, the mass market doesn't want a Playstation.

I think, and have done for too long, that the industry will split. OG games like us oldfags will migrate to PC, seems as we've used them for so long, and the normiefag/niggercattle will gravitate towards whatever MTX-riddled slop will be put out on whatever is left of consoles.

dunno, if you have a pc and mobile, you don't really have use for a console. genshin, fortnite, cod are all on mobile.
otoh switch still sells, but if that because of their bing-bing-wahoo exclusives* or the portability aspect I couldn't say. pc will always be king due to it's open nature, but mobile is probably the main killer. cba to look up the numbers, but zoomers don't seem to videogame in general, or least not the traditional way via pc/console.

Mobile games have always been super profitable because mobile gamers are either kids with zero impulse control or adults dumb enough to game on phones. Gachas have really resulted in the mobile market going insane. Hoyoverse makes so much money from Genshin and Honkai that they don't know what to do with it, they even funded a TOKAMAK nuclear fusion reactor. They have only a few gacha games and they're making billions each year.

Gachas are the endpoint of the monetization plague on the industry. Lootboxes were random lotteries for skins and other cosmetic stuff, Gachas are random lotteries for the best units in the game. Gacha piggies deserve the rope.

gacha is just the business model, and like any other business model there are good and bad executions. the reasons genshin made mihoyo a 7 billion dollar company is that it's animu BOTW that's 99.5% free. you only spend money if you want to. not every gatcha is fate that doesn't even have a pity or forces you through a powercreep spiral; which is a good way to piss off the casuals which as a whole still make a steady sum of money while working as free advertising via word of mouth - you won't get that from whales circlejerking each other over higher numbers.

or look at it this way: cp2077 was a fucking trainwreck. buy2play games suck man!

Not sure if I've talked about this before, but can we spare a moment to talk about how shitty Playstation controllers are? The PS4 controllers would inevitably experience stick drift, but the PS5 controllers are utterly abominable in this regard. I don't even game anywhere near as regularly as I used to, but these fucking things will start drifting in 1-2 months. You could fucking schedule them with how regularly it occurs.

I have never replaced so many controllers in a single generation for only a fraction of the gaming time.

Fuck you and your cheaply made slop, Sony.

No one notices the fact that ps5 stick drift is 10x worse than joycons because only one of those systems actually gets used for gaming.

If you don't have a bunch of good condition controllers it's hard to notice that the quality of PlayStation controllers has been going down with each generation and even within the same generation.

They peaked with early DualShock 1s. Much as I like the translucent crystal DS1s even those have noticeable cost cutting.

Dualshock 3s could last over a month of daily gaming, where the Dualshock 4 only lasted for a couple of days with the same amount of play. It was so stupid that you couldn't turn off that light completely. And the touchpad is dead in one of mine.

I considered buying a Dualsense for my PC, but I've heard all the horror stories, too. Meanwhile, my Xbox Series X controllers are doing fine.

Cartidges, theres an argument to be made and I mostly agree with that sentiment. Floppy disks, fuck no. They were always shit. They always seem to get corrupted or break down even if you aren't doing anuyhing wrong. Add to that a general lack of standardization and low storage space and it's not rocket science as to why they were phased out the second the technology got to the point a better alternative appeared. Fuck floppy disks to hell.

That is why PC is taking over the industry quickly, Consoles are basically worse prebuilts with a walled-garden and paid online, Microsoft at least has PC to fall back on and know they can survive off Software sales if the Console industry collapses, Sony has nothing to fall back-on video game wise especially since they have killed most of their classic IPs, the PS5 sucks because people realized they can buy anything thats on a PS5 is likely also on Steam

Ghosts of tsushima spoilers. One of the best open world games I have ever played but they way characters are treated is infuriating.

Im just so fucking tired of feminist writing in videogames. Troughout the story you are meet by two ruthless opportunists who do whatever they can to get a bit of power, Ryouzo and Tomoe.

Ryouzo is a life long friend of Jin who secretly has grudge against him and betrays him cause his men are starving and dying. Letting his merceneary company loose on the people of tsushima but is clearly remorsefull as shown in various cutscenes.
Tomoe betrays her people, sets up raider camps, murders and tortures innocent just cause her sensei is mean :(. But worst of all is that she flat out tells you to your face that she has no regrets and that she did what she had to.

So you might think that both are treated equally in the story as a traitor can never be forgiven. Well no, ryouzo get's killed without remorse as he should but Tomoe gets away scott-free to live a new life on the mainland cause they retcon her in the last to missions to say well axtually I tried to get the mongols to spare lives but i lost controll. Such a huge cop-out.

I'm not the biggest fan of the DS4 but I've had the same two since I bought my PS4 in 2015 and both have held up fine. I don't really use the PS4 anymore and at some point I'd like to replace but I haven't found anything suitable as I really can't stand the stick placement on xbox controllers.
