Sometimes whack candidates can get elected to something by just setting their bar low, running for a party with a supermajority that for whatever reason doesn't have a candidate for some office of little importance, or for some office of so little importance no major party is even bothering. Then upon election they just immediately start using their office and its seeming legitimacy to start spewing crazy shit.
