I don't know how much his views have actually evolved since the publishing of Hillbilly Elegy, not in regard to orange man, but how he views the White working class and their culture. Vance is probably the best pick. He's young enough that he even. He's from Ohio, which will make him a strong campaigner in rustbelt states like Michigan and Pennsylvania. He a Never-Trumper turned loyalist, which sends a message to estranged Never-Trump Republicans that it's ok for them to change their mind and vote for Trump. He's high profile, but wasn't high ranking, so Republicans also aren't losing powerful senator or Governor.
