JD Vance looks like a big L honestly, while this isn't affecting the outcome of the election, he picked one of the blandest and establishment-backed Republicans, doesn't have anything original to offer, and neither does he have the charisma of Trump. Considering the fact he is supposed to be Trump's successor, I don't see how he can beat any democrat challenger considering the direction we're heading socially. He certainly won't appeal to the vast majority of younger conservative-leaning people who will be voting in 2028. Maybe he can impress and gain some reputation, but I think Trump went with another Pence-like candidate, someone who is "safe" and wouldn't draw too much attention away from himself. Remains to be seen.

It doesn't matter. The Republican party has the next four years to figure out who their candidate in 2028 will be. These days having served as VP gives you a bump, particularly if you managed to accomplish something noteworthy during your time as a VP, but it's by no means a guarantee of being selected. If the RNC is smart, they'll leave it up to the voters to choose during the next presidential primaries.

Also, who do you think is a better choice? Most of the other picks aren't any better and there's really no perfect person that just happens to be available. I'm not blow away by the choice myself, but I can at least see what the strategy is and there's plenty to work with as far as campaigning over the next few months.

I'm so used to seeing the guy being a cheerful goofball, a sober video where he looks emotionally beat up is a little shocking.
It sucks. It’s not some corpo PR nonsense. It seems like he’s just speaking off the cuff about how he’s feeling. It feels genuine.

He’s not running a massive corporation, it’s just a thing he started in his free time. It was going well until some TDS-affected zoomer decided that he wanted to do his best John Hinckley Jr. impersonation.

Now Matt is probably being hounded by journos and ripped apart by left-wing looneys sperging out about gun control because it’s their standard defense when something like this happens. He didn’t deserve any of it.

I’m concerned that this assassination attempt might raise Trump’s profile and actually net more votes.

That happened with Benazir Bhutto (died November 2007, from what I know it was an IED), in Pakistan.

But, there had been an attempt on her life in similar circumstances a few months’ earlier. Security team and supporters took the hit instead.

…It just made her seem stronger. She also did the “I’m unafraid” shtick that Trump did at his rally. She got much more popular.

There were accusations she was corrupt and out of touch in some ways, but she wasn’t about to start World War III.

Raising the profile of a very old man with anger issues and serious health problems isn’t something that a country should do.

This. There needs to be more back benchers. Part of what is wrecking the Democrats right now is the Clinton Machine did everything they could to insure nobody could get uppity and threaten the Queens rise to power. Obama was an anomaly to be sure, but by and large the Democrats literally have nobody that could realistically replace Biden. The party brass are all fucking old, and the younglings are servile boot lickers and/or crazy like AOC.
It's why the dem's are freaking out. They butchered their new growth to get Hillary in (and failed lol). It took nearly a decade to show the damage, but it's clear... they don't have a future without MAJOR restructuring. The star is fading. With Trump putting Vance in the VP slot, he just put a young guy, something people have BEGGED for for years, in the public eye. Vance will still have to prove himself, but as long as he doesn't fuck up being VP, does everything expected of him, and Trump makes america great again, he will be a shoe in in the next election cycle.

republicans would have it in the bag if they stuck to lower taxes and immigration. picking a heartland culture warrior will backfire. abortion is a huge liability for him already
Depends, if he decides to echo Trump's line about leaving it to the states then his personal stances, especially as VP, are moot.

That's why her fine ass was needed there imo.

Should've been Tucker, the shitlib aneurysms would've been hilarious to seeq
I can think of better places where Tucker would be a better fit than VP. Just off the top of my head, white house press secretary. Or maybe for the meme of it all, CIA director.

He's also great right where he is.

You should probably be more concerned that someone tried to assassinate a president of the United States in broad daylight. One re-running for election.

Good pick with Vance with what I have heard of him. New blood being readied for a possibly long career, has a nonwhite wife so any racism case for his anti immigration shit is pretty much only gonna be bought by people who already buy it before knowing him. Catholic populism, not totally anti collective bargaining but also not just supporting the democrat mob form of it. Always thought tariffs sucked but thats just repub econ, less bad than left. Oh also wont support trannies wants to ban that hormone shit on kids and make it criminal. Very far from the worst.
tariffs are extremely powerful when you're a nation with a lot of buying power. look at the tariffs imposed on china by indonesia. the indonesian tariffs are also fairly sharp and indonesia can afford to place an up-to-200% tariff on chinese-made goods because they are the largest non-Chinese south-east asian economy. they even cite the US's tariffs as inspiration. it's incredible what a government can make other governments do by actually putting pressure on them.
