UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

So lads PALS finally got back to us with a letter from the head matron at my local hospital. Getting them to put their findings down in writing rather than orally was a chore all in its own right because that means we have physical evidence to take things further if needs be.

It basically read: "We investigated ourselves and found ourselves completely innocent. No we will not elaborate. Hope this answer satisfies you."

Fuck the NHS. I'm dreading what it's going to look like a year from now when Labour finally chimps out and falls apart.

Yeah despite all the suspiciousness and links to drug dealers (and some sort of stolen Rolex?) this could very easily be an accidental fall.
Thank you for that very detailed reply. Doesn't excuse the johnny foreigner police from missing a body laid out in the open and stinking. Did they use sniffer dogs do you know?

The terrain was very hazardous and inaccessible.

If he fell off the side of a mountain and landed in an cacti-overgrown ravine or got partially buried by a rockfall, his body was probably wedged somewhere that's not very visible from any accessible route, and incredibly hard to get to unless you're also prepared to jump off the side of a mountain. Not like searching woodland.

Apparently Liz Truss is at the Republican Convention. Why lol. Is she trying to give Trump the touch of death like she did Queen Elizabeth?

Former UK Prime Minister Liz Truss is attending the RNC, too.

Truss lost her seat in the UK election on 4 July and has spent some time mingling with conservatives across the pond since she resigned as prime minister after six weeks.

She’s openly endorsed Donald Trump to be the next president of the United States, saying he offers the "leadership the West needs".

I understand she’s not just expected to watch the convention, but participate, too - by attending a variety of fringe events and receptions, and joining a couple of panels.

She has previously said she shares Donald Trump’s values in opposing the left and what she has described as people "pushing their woke agenda".

But some of their policies when in office differed - for example, whereas Trump advocated for greater trade protectionism, Truss pursued more free market economic and trade policies.

They know Americans are retarded. They’ll hear “former British primer minister“ and will lap up being talked down to by a British accent.

None of them will know she is the speedrun champion of government collapses.

Kind of a shame as I did like her vision, but going Turbo-Thatcher on both steroids and speed and trying to rip all the bandaids off in one budget was retarded.

What the fuck
Maybe I got lucky, or maybe my hospital actually is ok for maternity- the ward was empty, one other woman in loud labour down the hallway. Clean rooms and beds, when I caved and requested epi the doctor was in within 5 mins to give it. Kept in for a night and day after and still didn’t see another woman! I was distraught that husband couldn’t stay the night with me, that was hard.
You are talking about retarded women complaining about made up shit. I would just ignore them.

Tell you what, I'm currently pergnat, I'll take notes from the experience and let you know my findings this time around. Although, that said, I was there earlier on in the year for a pregnancy that didn't pan out and the incompetence (left to wait 4 hours for bloods to be taken) and state of the hospital (the walls had Bossman holes and unknowable stains) does not fill me with hope.

I had my last 7 years ago and whilst the midwife was clueless (baby almost starved and was hospitalised due to breastmilk issues that I kept pointing out and getting waved off over) the actual labour ward and team weren't that dire. Although I did have a three day labour and was delirious by the time the emergency C-section rolled around, so for all I know I could have has a bit of a We Happy Few experience there.

Wish me luck.

Also, on that note, they're currently pushing me to get the whooping cough vaccine whilst pregnant and something about their approach there unsettles me, I don't like the idea of giving my pregnant body any a harder time than it's already going to have, but lord knows we've got third worlders bringing back all the classic hits from the Victorian Era.

Nah, the nhs is in bits. You get some pockets of sanity if you can carve out a little fiefdom for yourself and staff it with decent people but a huge portion of it is like going to a hospital in Delhi crossed with the arrival queue at Heathrow these days. Maternity standards have dropped particularly badly. I’ve had several kids, and very different experiences each time. Birth is never fun, but it had always been kind of ‘getvit over and out as soon as you can for home, staff professional, place is clean.’
The last one i had in an NHs ward in a major city would have been like some kind of comedy sketch, had I not just had a fairly unpleasant birth and not been in the mood for a chuckle. It genuinely was fucking awful. Ward was filthy, old blood on the floors and bed rails. Men who were relatives of other patients just wandering around ‘accidentally’ opening curtains. Stinky takeouts being brought in, music being played, it was grim.

Prime Minister: white guy
Scottish first minister: white guy
Welsh first minister: soon to be a white guy

We’re so back, bong bros!
I give the wee vampire looking kilt nigger up north about a couple months before SNP rainbow revenants strike and replace him with a McGenderblob.

Genuinely incredible that Vaughan Gething tried to imply he was getting forced out due to racism when he's probably the most openly corrupt politician in living memory (including a range of Tory Ministers and that Tower Hamlets mayor).
