So a quick check of Google street view on the building where the guy shot from and one of the first things you can see is a little shed next to a door overhang so what he actually did most likely was plan A and not something he did out of opportunity. Him checking the roofs was him seeing if he would be able to do that without interruption or if he would need to try a different strategy with the explosives in his car.

The CIA are pretty clearly the bad guys in Person of Interest. The only good one we ever meet is Reese, who is a murdering assassin before the government tries to kill him. And basically every member of the US government we ever meet on the show is also shown to be corrupt and evil, and usually stupid.

Great show, btw. We are basically living in it right now, except that Crooks would've been shot by Reese about two seconds before he shot at Trump, and Reese would've been following the firefighter all week wondering who could possibly want to kill him.

It's hard to say 2020 was such a crazy election, it's hard to know how much of it was just mass hysteria and how much of it actually reflects any sort of "new normal" in terms of the electoral map.

OK cool I'm going to spin my baseless speculation right here and just plop it like a big wet shit for posterity right here, just in case I'm right.

TL;DR: Agents create honeypot + turn a few key Secret Service personnel.

A girl starts talking to him because she thinks he's sooooo hot with his amazing takes on weaponry and his big manly guns.

He has never gotten this much female attention before.

She is wild. She tells him she is antifa and super anti-Trump. He's whatever will get him this girl. She will do all the freaky shit he's only thought porn girls do but she'll show up on video and she'll take photos, she's totally the real deal.

Actually a honeypot by domestic or foreign agency, she gets him to set up the shooting, and she gets him to rig up his electronics to blow when he does it so that nothing can connect the authorities back to her. She tells him that it's okay because people are watching his back and will make sure he can carry out the mission.

A few key secret service personnel, specifically the people in charge of the interface between local law enforcement and the closest physical presence agents to the President, get turned. [Only if this turns out to be by domestic agents: perhaps they initially aren't even assigned to this rally, so Kamala and Jill both schedule rallies until the correct person is in place at the Trump rally] Only a small group of agents are turned but they are the key linkages entrusted with relaying local law enforcement reports to enable agents nearer the president to (for instance) tell him to hold off on going onstage until a threat was neutralized.

He wasn't the useful idiot of Trump's regular Secret Service detail (and considering that detail loved being around him, I can see bosses paring it down as much as they can to stop him from getting support) as he made them look bad.
