Nick generally seems to believe that most murderers are not bad people and are not likely to repeat their crime.
I have actually had lawyers, cops AND judges tell me that among the scum they've dealt with, the murderers have been the least troublesome. And in my personal experience (okay only two), I got along fine with every (convicted) murderer I knew, one before and one after his crime. I also knew another guy who shot someone in the head (who was shooting at him first and yes it was drug turf shit) and the other guy (who lived) actually showed up and testified truthfully that yes, he had fired first.
I'm actually convinced from both secondhand sources and my own minimal experiences that most people who commit a murder had a comprehensible reason for it other than just pure evil. Often it doesn't rise to the level of something that gives you an actual legal defense, but it's very often something that you could see yourself doing given a slightly different set of circumstances.
It usually isn't "shot a man in Reno just to see him die."
Nick is also actually correct that murderers have one of the lowest recidivism rates of any crime.
Oh wait what was I sperging about? Oh yeah, given the choice between the murderers I've known and Nick I'd trust the murderers more to take care of a child.
But on the other hand, black people who live in the wrong places deserve high bail and long sentences based on Nick's extensive knowledge of them from the TV show like "the wire".
