Initial cope is that he went on so long that everybody turned it off. I think he kept more than they expected, with a lot of people probably really listening to him for the first time. The Secret Service and FBI have starved people of any coherent story about the Trump shooting. They are too busy stonewalling and ass covering to explain to people the story about what the fuck happened. Trump took that opportunity to tell his perspective and everybody wanted to hear it and be part of the historical moment.

If he wasn't so old I would think they should revisit term limits for presidents.

I'm wondering how much of a logistical nightmare/challenge it will be for staff if they have to update all slogans, marketing, media, calendars, org charts, whatever the fuck else, while still having to coordinate an entire campaign. I'm guessing its doable but it seems like it would be a massive pain in the ass and potentially a large hindrance to an already challenged presidential run.
