Are videogames for children?

What's the newest game you people played and really enjoyed? It's hard for me to remember anything newer than Metal Gear Rising or Deus Ex: Mankind Divided both of which I liked.
I believe that freely available video game engines such as UE, Unity, Godot etc. accelerated the growth of mediocre indie-bullshit video games made by people with profile bios like "Deidre Gwyneth, transfem lesbian, xhe/xhem, wiccan, diaper fetishist, tarot card enjoyer" which on their turn lowered the standards for AAA studios.
Am I just an old fart (slightly over 20 yo) or are things really like that?
There's been a lot of AAA games from the past few years that I've enjoyed (Cyberpronoun, Baldur's Gate III, Elden Ring, Control, RE2R, RE4R, etc), and there have been a lot of lower-tier/smaller titles too (Pentiment, Selaco, Skald, Gloomwood, System Shock remake, Wartales, etc). As it is my backlog is pretty expansive, with most of the games being recent releases.

The state of the AAA industry and the abundance of lazy shovelware cashgrabs make it easy to become jaded, but I think overall the landscape for games is pretty healthy. There are many projects out there in various stages of production that I'm excited for, most of them from smaller studios that luckily aren't beholden to the whims of out of touch corporate executives or the constraints of palms greased by DEI funding.

I started mana stacking sorc as well, but arcane ascendance is a pain in the ass, clunky af. I ditched it after making it to monos and levelled up a spellblade that uses dagoraths claw and enigma, much smoother, will be finishing regular monos today.
I got frustrated with clunkiness too, but I stuck with the Sorcerer rather than restart with a new character: after fumbling through some Lightning-based Int-stacking builds (the last time I used Lightning Blast endgame was easier) I settled on a Freeze Rate stacking Snowdrift Cold DoT build. My current BiS items are pimpin'.

It's kernel level, but I've had no issue with it.

It beats the shitshow going on at Riot Games with Vanguard. I used to play League but uninstalled the second they put Vanguard in the game, I don't want that bullshit on startup nonsense on my computer. Riot Games client in general is basically a virus, it's extremely difficult to remove. You can't uninstall it from the program list or through control panel, it embeds in some retarded file somewhere and you have to just send it to the recycle bin. I actually had to google and go through a walkthrough on how to get rid of it lol. The entire company and their chink overlords at Tencent need to be nuked.

With Vanguard being a total piece of shit, is it still worse than EA's own Kernel-Level Anti-Cheat system? It made FIFA 23, the first game to get the anti-cheat, unplayable at one point, and the amount of cheaters actually increased in Battlefield 2042, when EA switched from using Easy Anti-Cheat, to their own Anti-Cheat system. At least EA's Anti-Cheat hasn't bricked people's computers, yet.

Mine doesn't have that much drip, but at least the stats are pretty solid. Currently sitting at 3.7k ward while idle, goes up to ~5.5 on bosses when attacking constantly, EHP is great so far around 300 corr, I will be pushing higher today, but I got the double blessing roll yesterday from harbingers so maybe I'm gonna revisit some monoliths to get better rolls.
Btw, it's a shame I bought the game in 0.9 and the backpack was given in 0.8, it's one of the better back attachments in my opinion.

the older I get the less patience I have for PvP Games, everyone takes it way to seriously these days as if it were a sport and not an entertainment product
It's no less ridiculous to treat a sport "seriously". Niggers chasing a ball might arguably be something to take even less seriously.

Geforce Now is rumoured to be soon available via Gamepass. This is significant because industry rumours are growing stronger that the next Xbox will be Nvidia architecture, not AMD.
There's a possibility that Xbox+Nvidia will make a deal for software and exclusives.

I made a post in the SOny hate thread discussing how the future of console wars will be on PC; Sony games will receive a boost when using AMD hardware and Xbox games receiving a boost when using Nvidia hardware.

It'll be interesting to see how it pans out.

In other news, the console industry is dying on it's arse. Spoiler: the article is full of cope.

Coping about the declining sales

Just under 80 million PC and console games have been sold across Europe for the first six months of 2024, GSD data reveals.

That's a unit sales drop of 1.6% over the start of 2023, which is a strong result considering the comparatively weaker release slate for the first half of this year compared with the year before. The first half of 2023 saw major releases including Hogwarts Legacy, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Diablo IV and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

By comparison, just two games in the Top Ten best-selling 2024 games (so far) have been released in 2024. Helldivers 2 (at No.2) and The Last of Us: Part 2 Remastered (at No.10).

Note: Palworld data is missing, which would likely have been a key seller, too.

Rest of the article in the report.

I can't believe TLOU2 made the top 10 after how shit it was. Guess TLOU3 might happen after all.

It was bundled with some PS5s and, there is also a $10 price tag to get the remastered version if you already owned the digital PS4 edition. I'm sure they are counting both as sales too.

Helldivers on the other hand, had none of that help and came up on top still.

I can believe it. Though I doubt it reflects actual sales to customers. We've seen the pictures of palettes of unsold copies all but given away. So they're likely counting wholesale.

Even if it was actually number 10, what was the budget, and what was the competition? The article even says Palworld isn't listed. It also says revenue fell overall.

EVO will be starting soon. Looking forward to watching as many games as I can. Don't expect any crazy announcements, but maybe there will be something cool.

Fightan and speedrunning is very similar. Everyone loves it, everyone wants to get into it, but few do. I don't even mind sitting down and labbing for 5 hours to lose 4 and win 1, but it's just such a bad deal compared to other games. Shit at Apex? Play, die. Play, die. Play, lucky spawn, get a few kills, die. You improve by playing. Sure you do in tekken too, but then you see people like xQc who just queue spam til they can string a combo together after 18 matches mashing.

Man I wish I could just get into fighting. Dood lives such a comfy life: Fighting and whatever slop capcom shits out. Theyre all mediocre or decent. None of this 'searching around for the new 8 hour indie' nonstop. I just fail to get interested. No characters stand out to me, ever. And if they do they're manon and get the manon treatment. I'm not burned out on playing games but the only ones Ive not hidden in my library are the same games as 10 years ago. Nothing new comes around and stays around.

Not sure if that was a sincere reply or some copypasta.

You mean as a professional player, or just in general ? Playing as a job is probably a complete different discussion, but as a casual fighting games are more popular than they have ever been.

My time playing FPS online is more or less a thing of the past, but my experiences with the modern Battle Royal games, I would argue the exact opposite. Stuff like Apex, Fortnite, Warzone is so vapid and meaningless. So much of the game is taken out of the player's control to facilitate this fast in and out of matches. Not to mention, this is so integral to the modern FPS, so everyone can win and feel good about himself.

Also, this idea that you have to lab for hours is some false nonsense that seems to have stuck with people that never touched fighting games. You don't have to lab shit, but you do need to constantly pay attention during a match, block and don't randomly press buttons. With that, you already made it past a good chunk of the player base and can easily climb the ranks. You have to put in some effort, which is the antitheses of modern games.

Man I wish I could just get into fighting.
The best time to pick up SF6 or T8 is now.
No characters stand out to me, ever. And if they do they're manon and get the manon treatment.
I am a Zangief player. The last time that character wasn't bottom of the barrel before S2 in SF6 was S2 in SFV. But you can have fun and win with "worse" characters. Manon is interesting because you can "sacrifice" the first round to build medals and then make your opponent guess every single time. Not to mention not a popular character means people don't know the matchup.

I don't know, don't see the doom and gloom regarding fighting games.

That would really surprise me if it happened. MS must be really desperate if they're approaching Nvidia.

Teaser for this mod finally dropped so I can properly show it off better now, someones trying to remake postal 3 in postal 2's engine with some serious success so far. Sure this may be :optimistic:
but I want to believe. ):

The only bad blood between them is the slapfight they had 20 years ago over selling expensive GPU's for the OG Xbox because Nvidia didn't make them anymore (or couldn't source the components cost-effectively enough), other than that they've been fairly tight.

MS are having their hand forced a little bit though; AMD is allowing SOny (Mark Cerny) to develop new software and hardware, first for the Playstation, and then for general release. The gains AMD have been seeing for the past 10 years are almost exclusively thanks to Cerny. Console faggotry aside, Cerny is a legitimate genius. AMD and Sony do not allow MS to have their 'secret sauce' updates/upgrades, which puts them on the back foot. There's good reason why the Series X is more powerful on paper, but folds like origami compared to a weaker PS5.

MS and Nvidia teaming up and Sony and AMD continuing their partnership is the best possible outcome for the console industry.

Unlike AMD they sold the chips not the license to manufacture them. They refused to do that, just like Intel.
Sony then got in bed with Nvidia for the PS3 then turned to AMD. Apple also shifted from Nvidia to AMD.
