More and More I come back to a very old Anime called "the 12 Kingdoms". It was released in the same period as "Legend of the Galactic Heroes", which according to the meme is the only /pol/ approved Anime.
I know dear sneeder hates Anime, but I would posit 12 Kingdoms is very relevant because unlike most modern Anime, it actually is trying to say something profound about the nature of the world. Its considered one of the originations of the "Isekai" plague that afflicts modern pop culture. But unlike in modern times, the titular school girl "Yoko" is not transported away to become a great queen with OP powers. She is fucked figuratively and literally by the reality shift. Thrust into a position of authority she did not ask for or want. Forced to learn the true nature of reality as dictated by an uncaring God, and accept the burden of authority as Queen, or reject that burden and die.
Made all the worse because Yoko was a very Liberal girl with lots of naive notions about how Government should work and how people interact with each other in social settings where the goal is not just leisure, but also Power.
Its very good and well worth the watch. Its also a scathing indictment of Liberal political theory. But just as nuanced as "Legends of the Galactic Heroes", in which Democracy and Liberalism are not entirely bad ideas with no grievance against traditionalism, authoritarianism and monarchy. But their time is not nigh. Its an unformed ideology with weak foundations that cannot hold onto power long term. But it does have merits. Merits that can perhaps teach something to even a God King.
