Stopped watching his stuff around 2022, according to this thread. I've stayed subscribed so I can see the thumbnails and the downfall.

My question to you all: is there a crossover between car guys and furries?

There's a long running joke that if furries are animals their natural predator is the automobile given a prodigious number of them punching out by way of car accident, and lots of them high profile- The fact is most furries are young guys; young guys do stupid shit in cars so die in cars QED, no furries and car guys really don't overlap. Sort of, if there are car guy furries they're not like about it for love of the machine; like your home grown hot rodder type who really knows cars and gets their hands dirty for go faster purposes. Furry car guys seem to just like the aesthetic or status shit with a car brings, or it goes with the "vibe." Like they import a 90s GTR not for technical fascination with ATTESSA ETS or like its touring car legacy that was impactful on them but so like they can get their photgrapher friend to get pics of them going through the McDonald's drive thru in reverse and the car really goes with the 90s anime theme of their fursona. I'm wording it a bit meaner than I actually feel about it because there's not a damn thing wrong with getting something just because you think it's kinda neat or matches the drapes- But I personally don't consider those people car guys since a "car guy"/hot rodder sprung out of post war psychotic adrenaline junkie pilots without a plane to go fast and die in so had to resort to fast cars and in turn the obsessive build->race->break ouroboros of speed they feed. Furries whether because they all seem to be by day like high frequency stock brokers/aircraft engineers/nuclear missile technicians or they're unsocialized speds, don't seem to partake in difficult or effort intense hobbies, get down to it really digging into cars is fucking work. So I'd say no generally because furry car guys would basically be a lot of Brians.

TL;DR: Ehhh not particularly but they're not oil and water?

He's flexing stopping by Anthrocon. This turn is really funny to me considering how hard he tried to bury the connection back in the day.

So now that he's full-on doing the furry circuit, was he actually blackballed from the car industry? I remember him writing for Jalopnik, and then that kind of stopped. I kinda figured they were too stupid to actually keep up with the rest of the cartube crowd, but never could dig up any drama.

Jalopnik probably only vaguely paid, given Gawker and later G/O's problems, and the fact that all the trannies and shitbags (though popular shitbags) left for The Autopian. Probably simple as.

I liked some of his old funny videos like the C4 review, but he's been getting increasingly unfunny and unbearably stereotypically levels of gay lately to the point that not only I can't recommend his videos to anyone but I've to even turn the volume down because he starts screaming borderline gay porn.

His latest video is just disgusting to look at, couldn't make it to the end from all the furry cringe.

He's definitely entering lolcow territory, all his pooping jokes is because he's a bottom straight out of "the gift". And he's not just regular furry like "I like fox girls with big tits" but he's the weird kind of furry, the kind of furry that makes even other gays uncomfortable.
I felt it especially in the episode about the Audi TT where he said that the only reason men don't want an Audi TT is because they're insecure.
Not saying that's all there is but the first gen TT did get some shit for being "too pretty" which is why the 2nd gen got the angery design treatment, like the 2nd gen new bettle and last gen miata did.
He actually did. The funny thing is that video was also to shill his Toyota Sera for sale on Cars and Bids. It starts at 4:07.

TL;DW: he goes on a spiel about how he hated high school because his teachers made fun of him for being queer or something and the car is some sort of escapism for him.

Its worse because he contradicts himself when he talks about his ideal version of the 90's. Can't talk about the 80's since not my decade but being gay in the 90's unless you were in the middle of hicksville or in an inner city school the only difference with now is that you didn't get praised and given special treatment for being the gay kid which is what he clearly resents. His spiel is about bullying which yeah it sucks but it didn't happen to the gay kids alone, nerds, fats, uggos, they all got/get bullied to hell, so even if he wasn't gay he woulda been bullied for being a skinny nerd anyway, and if anything nerd hate is worse nowadays than back then. At least back in the 90's everybody thought the nerd kids were the next bill gates, nowadays the nerd kid is a fucking incel woman-hating racist spree shooter in waiting.

I watched this dude's earlier videos religiously like ~10 years ago, long enough ago that he hadn't done a face reveal yet. I think a lot of people who watch him now don't even realize that for the first 2 or 3 years he was pretty much completely anonymous. I think it was the Vagabond Falcon build when he started to show himself on camera. It's been a very slow decline for him to get to this point.

I liked his earlier surreal videos and stuck around for the more analytical takes on different cars. I specifically remember the Dodge Aspen and Kia Spectra reviews as being some of my favourites. But yeah, as time went on there was a definite tonal shift in his videos and it was less about analyzing the reasons a vehicle might exist and what about it appeals to certain people and more about just dunking on various groups he doesn't like. It was some time around the first UK trip that I started to think "damn, these videos don't feel the same anymore". I still tune in every once in a while, usually when he gets his hands on some malaise era american thing. I don't know if he's actually better at making videos about those or I'm just biased because I love shitass old american cars. But yeah, the more the videos became about his personal life, and the more the character of "Mr. Regular" eroded, the less interesting they became.

People have known about the furry shit for a while too. I remember reading discussions about the Kutztown Dragon profile back in at least 2017, probably earlier. He didn't address it for YEARS, either, so nobody really gave a fuck. The attitude was more "hey this guy had this weird fursona account years ago haha". It was just an oddity for those in the know, but since it didn't change anything about his content and the guy didn't really care to talk about it, there wasn't a whole lot of point in discussing it at length. It's been weird watching him do a complete 180 and fully embrace furries again.

He also didn't bring up politics pretty much ever, even after the 2016 elections. Progressive ideology have been seeping more and more into his reviews over the course of years. Look, you're a dude who shittalks 30 year old cars while occasionally farting into a microphone. I'm here for entertainment, not to hear about your worldviews. I think years of exposure to left-leaning furfags has begun to alter his views and pushing him into "everyone must know my opinions" territory. The jokes became less about broadly making fun of cars and the people who would own them and more targeted punches toward whatever type of person Mr. Regular doesn't like (boomers and guys who made fun of him in high school 25 years ago).

Despite Mr. Regular's general weirdness and occasionally shit opinions, I don't think he'll ever reach full on lolcow status. Even with the furry shit, and the constant discussion of his homosexuality, and the random tranny that keeps showing up in recent videos, and the thousand other things, it's all just average cringe stuff. He's not going out of his way to fuck with people, he doesn't get angry at troll comments, and there's just honestly not a lot to talk about other than him just becoming kind of sad and boring and going to furcons. I mean, fuck, this thread is 6 whole-ass years old and only 4 pages long. Honestly, I really don't give a shit if he wants to go dick down trannies at Furrydelphia. I just don't understand why it has to be intertwined into all his new content.

tl;dr It's all just kind of sad.

Oh also Roman's documentaries are absolutely GOATed. It's a bit weird for me to say that considering that for the majority of the early channel's life he kind of just felt like a weird piggybacker, but now that he's doing his own thing his passion for cars and usefulness to the channel comes through a lot more than it used to. Definitely watch the Lee Iacocca one if you're interested in auto industry history stuff. In fact, it's now at the point where Roman's videos now surpass the actual car reviews for viewership lol.

Boy let me tell you, it's crazy to see someone as oddly specific as me. I think I found Mr. Regular back when the Mazda Miata review went viral in 2013-ish? IDK, maybe I'm childish, but I still think that video is funny as shit. But slowly his videos have absolutely been taken over by current year brainrot. More than anything I think I miss his random non-car related asides. Like his video about driving the Appalachian Trail. That shit was legit comfort viewing for me. Just another victim of the psyops I guess.

I'm right there with you. Honestly it wasn't until the last couple years when the Current Year shit and the furries started becoming frequent enough to be bothersome. I even liked the early RCR Journal videos he did in like 2017 where he'd just talk about life and shit in a candid but still anonymous fashion. It was definitely some comfy shit and I liked listening to them. Most of his older videos have aged very well and are still very rewatchable. Wasn't until half the episodes became "how does this car relate to BEING GAY" that I stopped feeling the need to rewatch them.

I think another part of the decline has been the shift from being just a guy making his weird little car reviews towards producing more "YouTube Content". Especially when every third week he'd be doing some giveaway car that you had to spend 50 whole-ass dollars on a fucking coffee mug in order to be entered to win. It FEELS a lot more like a production than just "hey it'd be funny if I talked about this car and made some dick jokes". It feels like the reviews have lost some of their soul, especially after he took down the Avenger review + some others. It's sort of hard to articulate how exactly it's different, but watching a review from 2013 or 2017 or 2020 feels different than one he puts out now. Someone else discussed it better earlier in the thread, but RCR started out taking the piss out of normal car youtubers, and it feels like he's been consistently sliding towards being just like one of them.

I do still tune in for the regular car reviews, sometimes. Again, usually when it's some old American crap because that's what I like. The reviews even now are more interesting than the sloptent put out by Demuro and the like. Hoovies used to be interesting until his Asian wife divorced him and took her kids with her (If I wasn't so lazy I'd do a post about that in the Youtube thread.) Good car content is definitely still out there on YouTube though. Zip Ties N Bias Plies is great. Junkyard Digs + Pole Barn Garage are pretty solid, too. I don't know what other ones you watch, if any, but there's still good shit out there made by people who aren't backsliding like RCR.

p.s. Nolan leave Donut you're too good for that slop

He went from a goofy dude who made the intro music and did some editing to the producer of the best content on the channel. Imo all of his "RCR stories" videos are great. I understand a 2.5 hour long video on the rise and fall of Pontiac may not be for everyone, but it's definitely for me.

I think Brian, Mr.Regular, going down this path shows some kind of underlying resentment issues. Don't want to play armchair shrink but being a guy in his mid 40s still talking about having a shitty time in highschool when he's probably by the numbers the most famous person from his little town its kind of pathetic. From what I've heard in the reviews thru the years he was a nerd but not the kind that then goes into STEM or finance and rakes it in but the nerd that just seems to be smart but can't actually deal with the hard stuff so he gets a memedegree in english only to spend his 20s and part of his 30s broke as IIRC he mentioned for a while he was maybe assistant professor or something? its clear in early videos that before RCR got traction he was lower middle class, specially when he showed footage of his house.

But now:
1736884205205.png
Over $352k a year to make a video maybe once a week its not bad at all, yet he seems more angry than when he was reviewing his own silicon sally honda full of caulk to keep the rain from seeping in. I guess the combination of more money than ever and an audience is making the real Brian come out, and is not the fun dorky guy stuck in the 90s Mr.Regular seemed to be.
Despite Mr. Regular's general weirdness and occasionally shit opinions, I don't think he'll ever reach full on lolcow status.
I didn't think he would reach this point and yet he did, he's really going down these past 2-3 years, or just the last year? when did he start making the "I am gaaaaay" voice as if that was news to anybody?
Even with the furry shit, and the constant discussion of his homosexuality, and the random tranny that keeps showing up in recent videos, and the thousand other things, it's all just average cringe stuff.
Are we getting more tolerant? I remember when people were getting trolled online for much less than that.
he doesn't get angry at troll comments
Give it time, in a way he's like Musk, he also was bordeline lolcow until he went all out on H1B indians and confirmed it. The difference is Musk is a multibillionaire while Brian is well, RCR.

Of which 1.5 pages are from 2024 alone, again he was pretty neutral for all this time but he's sliding hard.

I really don't like his voice but the doc content is good, good enough for him to spin off and make a "Roman's car history" channel. His reviews can be cringe at times tho.
I made the mistake of checking his Instagram, he is currently giving financial advice dressed up as a bird.

A bird furry, how you look at birds as something sexual? they don't have hands, tits or lips.
I hate millennials
Is he a millennial? didn't he graduate in the 90's? wouldn't that make him a late genX?

Dude, it was wild when Instagram randomly showed me him in the fucking bird suit without me even following him. I haven't watched him in years. I think it's because I've been looking at more car stuff lately on my quest to purchase a new vehicle. I'd sort of known he was into weird stuff, just rumors on other sites years ago. But being so open about it, I just assumed it started after 2016 and is some form of protest against many in the car community being more conservative.

I don't know, there just doesn't seem to be that much entertainment value thus far in RCR's decline towards whatever the fuck this is. But yeah, I guess we'll see how he turns out in a couple more years.

It's such a shame how far off the cliff RCR has fallen.

I saw firsthand how the Miata video shot him to (underground) fame, and his humour perfectly reflected old school /b/ and /o/. At that point no one cared that he was a furry even when the Kutztown Dragon links got outed. The Avenger video is a work of art but the channel went into decline around the time Patreonbucks enabled him to buy the Vagabond Falcon and he decided his entire personality should boil down to "car guy".

After plodding along for a few more years the whole coming out of the closet thing happened and then every fucking video had to be about him being gay and that was it for me. Now he's all in on the gay furry degeneracy :stress:

On the other hand Roman's RCR stories are excellent and I did enjoy the Pennsylvania video.
