General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Kirsche, as an example, used a really shitty 3D model from 2020ish that shook and spazzed like she had Parkinson's and barely worked, set up by someone just learning how to make a model, and she went from 100 viewers to a consistent 1500+ before changing it.
the model was great, clean and simple design. maybe a bit low texture resolution.
the spazzing added flavor. it either made her look like literally shaking during a tangent, or gave her the same "body language" as a handpuppet.
I know she calls it a bug, not a feature so it's probably gone when if she gets a new proper model and she'll look more like the average vtuber.

A paper plate face can get away with a lot as long as their mic doesn't suck ass.

For that alone Dizzy was against hiring her? Feels a bit extreme from her.
she was also against pippa's hire. shows what she knows.

regarding Null's question, its a mix of rigger skill and what vtubers are willing to pay for.

Eimi as the better rigging as far as ive seen.

more mouth shapes, sizes and it looks really fluid.

If Null was gonna use an avatar i wouldnt recommend live2d but the fugi reactive thing. and idle animation and a simple talking animation. On because the dog snout will look weird as fuck.

I've been exposed to more vtuber clips in the last week than I'd ever want to see, and I have a question

Why is the face rigging so bad? Their mouths barely move, the puppets just kind of lean left and right, the head doesn't seem to turn, and the eyes constantly flitter like they're having a stroke. Doesn't that take you out?
Don't see any issue with it. Compare it to your average streamer sitting in a gaming chair playing whatever, they don't really move around that much. As for the mouth flaps take any cartoon and really look at the characters mouths, it's the same thing. Vague mouth flaps roughly matched up to the dialogue.

No idea what the costs are but 3d tracking would probably be overkill for a lot of streamers.

There's impressive advancements being made with webcam-based tracking, the main one I've been following is XR Animator. It's progressed as far as motion-capped string instruments now.

Hand tracking is functional, but I've yet to see it demo'd in conjunction with videogames, especially visually-intensive ones.

There's so much nuance to the human face this is an insane statement. This is in particular why I absolutely hate insipid people like Charlie. He just sits there in his empty fucking eggshell white room wearing a plain white T shirt talking in monotone making almost no facial expressions and injecting almost zero personal opinion into anything. He's basically the toast sandwich of streamers and somehow that appeals to almost 16 million retards. Even vtubers are more lifelike than Charlie.

I would still cut Dizzy some slack when it comes to hiring recommendations, as her's in retrospect would have probably made for bad/blander decisions, but were certainly safe recommendations at the time.
I don't think anyone would have expected the astronomical rise of Pippa compared to the other girls and just how large of a niche more unhinged corporate Vtubers would be. Considering Shiina, Phase started looking for talents for the 2nd generation in August of 2021 and only debuted them in June of 2022, you have to keep in mind what that time that was like. I don't think anyone tracks superchat history, but Pippa, according to the Phase Tracker, had the least amount of subs of the english speaking talents from November of 2021 to February of 2022 and until June Lia was still the more GFE Ashelia character.

Considering that Ashelia was supposed to be the poster child of Phase, since she was Sakana's creation based on his oshi, that Phase was not financially stable and that they did not have the the same reputation that they do have now, I do get why Dizzy would have concerns because of that clip.

Another NijiDay, another NijiOuch.
Kunai debut was terrible and not just because it was Niji being Niji. She has a few medical issues, most notably nerve damage in her left arm. So whilst Vivi was doing her pickme pandering and Claude continued to be low-rent Shu, Kunai was limited to chatting content or hospital physio therapy visits.

Given the pause in memberships however, do not be shocked if she and Vivi disappear in a few months (as that is when TTT's contract renews happen)

One way animation studies save on their budget is to have a literal still image where only the mouth moves for parts of a scene or so.

I think with vtubers a lot of it is in their voice instead of the model.

If the nuances of the human face is that important then how do you explain your success with MATI when all it is is either a blank screen or post, images, or videos from the site? If it truly was that big of a deal then the only people who would tune in would be the 20-30 odd people in the MATI thread but that's not the case. You get thousands of people who listen to you, twice a week, across multiple platforms, around the world, because they like hearing you and they like hearing you talk about silly stuff. You put on an interesting show and you have a nice rapport with your audience. That's the overwhelming majority of work right there, show prep and charisma. I mean, look at what happened to Rekieta when he stopped caring about doing prep and picked fights with his audience. It's not any different with vtubers.
Just further confirmation she listens to or watches MATI. Or there's people informing her whenever she gets mentioned, which is more likely.
Bro she uses this site. She has for years. She talked about Chris raping Barb like a month after she debuted. How often she lurks here, I don't know, but the Farms is a part of her stomping grounds. There's also the very annoying problem of her constantly ego searching which is almost certainly why she's a bit peeved.

I don't think he's trying to be mean I think he's just asking questions.
