General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

All the small corpos should merge, they do large cross collabs so often to share their small viewer pool around they should just be one company.
Given how many small corpos are either borderline-abusive scams or a Discord mod's "we'll give you Talent Freedom AND a higher revenue share AND blackjack and hookers" virtue signal project, I'd rather not let those kinds of business models poison the rest of the scene.

Considering the chinese whispers around the scene and this one time where Pippa said she would've been compensated for snitching on Phase by an unidentified corpo, probably none of these are in seemingly any good terms to merge without a gigantic clusterfuck

Apparently there's been this drama going on between a bunch of Loli Vtubers or something?

Probably late to the party, but I've been seeing it pop up on my feed a lot
Just a monthly event at this point, But I believe a flesh tuber on Twitch is spearheading the latest crusade and Shondo got hit right before a birthday stream.

Because I'm not trying to pass it off as an interactive human? Are you really failing to understand my fucking point?
I'm pretty sure you've got quite a percentage of parasocial followers, rivaling some smaller Chuubas, despite not "passing it of as an interactive human". This just shows how easy people can fall into these holes.

In the end though MATI is the same medium, but a different genre. However I would love to see you buy a cheap Live2D model and stage a classic VTuber debut stream. High pitched voice, etc.. The seeth of VTweeters would be gold!

No, I get your point. Your original question was
I've been exposed to more vtuber clips in the last week than I'd ever want to see, and I have a question

Why is the face rigging so bad? Their mouths barely move, the puppets just kind of lean left and right, the head doesn't seem to turn, and the eyes constantly flitter like they're having a stroke. Doesn't that take you out?
but your point is that you think this whole vtuber thing is stupid and you're looking for any and every reason to go after it and that's fine. I can understand why people don't like it. The face thing I think is flawed because of my example and your own example of Charlie. This site has threads on people who make a living looking into the camera and dryly reading news articles. People like listening to people they like and they do not need an intricate, emotive face to listen to them.

There is still the model that @Deluxe2 rigged for him. It's been there for over 2 years now. Just have a look at his preview

To celebrate party hat day, I have created a live2d version of a badly drawn wikihow illustration of drooling dog. Now anyone can become a drooling dog vtuber.

Features:
It can talk
The drool sways slightly
I made it in the trial version of live2d cubism

The times where Null has posted here shitting on vtubers he's never been very indirect about it like you're assuming to be the case here.

Seemed to me like he was just asking a question about why the tech hasn't improved further than it's current implementation.

I think it's quite normal to be defensive, when Null is probably gonna do another hackjob presentation of Pippa clips. He's probably going to keep defaming Pippa as a pedo, when there's more evidence out there that he is a pedo, but you don't see me calling him one, because I'm not brain damaged.

Depends of the rigger and the money you put on it, some riggers just try to do simple motions to cheap costs but there are people that has special toggles like showing their tongues or kisses

And then you have especial cases like this

Live2D rigging is an actual art form that requires a tremendous amount of effort compared to 3d rigging, so the quality varies between quick jobs that can be done in 10 hours, like my slobbermutt thing, to jobs that can take a couple hundred man hours or more. Live2D rigging consists of literally thousands of small layers adjusted by hand to create the illusion of 3d. To save time, riggers reduce the amount of angles they have to do, so most rigs do not show anything past 90 degrees of rotation. Expert level riggers can go all the way to 170 degrees of rotation

The reason why live2d remains popular even though 3d exists is because the 2D effect is desired and it requires less equipment from the user end to run.

Here is an example of a portfolio for one of the highest end riggers. They can charge over $20k-$50k for a couple month's worth of work.

As for why some have 'bad rigging', at least half the time, it's a user issue rather than a model issue. The current industry standard is to use apple's VRkit motion tracking suite that comes with the iphone, but people who can not afford iphones will use webcameras to track their movements. Poor image quality can cause the model to spaz out when it loses tracking.

Personally, the quality of model and rigging isn't that important. If someone is entertaining, they don't need anything fancy.

Note: Live2D is not synonymous with vtubers, as live2D was initially developed for software and game development as a cost effective way to have programmable 2D animation without needing a warehouse of traditional animators to accomplish.

Yeah Null doesn't do that passive aggressive shit. He doesn't really understand or like the hobby (it's stored in an angry little molecule of his brain next to anime) but on the other hand our thread doesn't generally cause problems/drama for the rest of the site so in exchange we usually get left alone to do our thing.

If people can be parasocial over Ralph or DSP, they can be parasocial over anyone, regardless of the content creator's intentions.

heh

edit: 99.9% sure this is Professor Lando / The Artist Formerly Known As Magni Dezmond's new Vtuber persona thing.

Nigga went from looking like a yaoi antagonist, and turned himself into fucking G'raha Tia. Looks better than Magni, and fits his "Do I look gay?" personality a lot more.
