I also just realized that she’s begging for Gem to get asthma testing too. From a quick check (because it somehow didn’t occur to me that cat asthma could even be a thing), cat asthma is very uncommon. It’s triggered by exposure to allergens and symptoms include chronic cough and wheezing. While it’s treatable, it is still relatively deadly when untreated. And we know how on top of things Mem is if she still has sewage in her basement months later. Gem is definitely getting harmed by prolonged exposure. But no, the lawn was a higher priority.

What most likely happened is that the broken fridge/rotten food grift has worked in the past, so she's dragging it out of the stables to run it through its old paces and attract some new punters.

Like any well functioning business, it's all about finding synergies so you can minimise the expended resources while maximising the value generation.

Mem's broken fridge grift dovetails nicely into her "my roommate's teeth are rotting and he can only eat popsicles" grift. This has been part of her playbook for a while, but I feel she's resting on her laurels a bit. As we all know: waste is a thief, and while perfect is the enemy of good, there's such a thing as staying inside your comfort zone for too long.

If you'd all be so kind as to refer to the business case included in the meeting's materials, you'll notice I'm proposing to fold in the sewerage grift alongside the broken fridge grift. With a few judicious twitter posts, followed by 2 minutes of grainy video camera footage, Mem could easily prime the community to accept that the only stopgap she has for the sewerage problem is to shovel handfuls of it into the freezer compartments to freeze it. I know we all read the supporting materials well in advance, but please do make note that while I fully believe we can get a solid ROI on this grift alone, it also serves as a necessary prerequisite to fold in the "my wrist is too sore to post" grift by making such a huge deal how of heavy and painful it is to haul lumps of frozen shit in and out of the freezer.

Every time I see Mem post something like this, it reminds me of when our fridge broke during the height of summer when I was a teenager. The fan in the back would stop running whenever it was too hot inside the house (and since we only ran our ancient AC unit at night, that was often). We would have to crawl behind the fridge and spin it every so often so that it would keep running. Most items that went into the fridge were condiments or were stored there for a day or two before being eaten. Anything that needed to be in longer like milk ended up in an ice filled Coleman. It was a hassle, but it was doable between planning meals and getting an old chest freezer from a family friend along with the aforementioned cooler.

I think last couple times her fridge broke she did just what you said, actually. I definitely remember her posting pictures of a styrofoam cooler covered in duct tape and begging for ice packs and bags. But still—

I recognize that brand of strawberry preserves. That shit is expensive. I've bought it for baking projects in the past. In my area it's 6.99 for a 13oz jar. If you're so poor that you're begging others to pay to feed you buy a jar of store brand jelly. At Kroger you can get an 18oz jar of their brand for less than $3.

Idk anything about fridges but I bet it's pretty easy to just replace the magnetic strip for a few bucks.

How can someone be so useless when it comes to repairing their stuff? Like you said the seal is easy to fix with just a big of googling to get the correct type of glue to reattach it and the leaky sink can be fixed with something like flexseal. Water damage ceiling is landlord so bother them about that shit...
