The difference is that they were faking it with Bush, as he's always been part of the uniparty, while it currently seems they aren't with Trump.

They weren't faking it. In 2000, the idea that there could be someone from outside the establishment was a million miles away. Bush wasn't supposed to win in 2000, and the fact that he rode the Flyover States (first time I heard that term) to victory did broke the Democrats' brains.

With the cameras rolling everyone there knows that going on to the plane to fetch him is going to look really bad. It would raise questions about whether their puppet is fit to even remain in office. They all stood there and hoped that he'd come out quickly before he sat down and fell asleep.

A compelling argument, but they have in the past lurched after him, chased him and physically manipulated him. There's no reason to stop now when he's no longer even the nominee. It could have been a diplomatic issue for why they couldn't go up there, though. I personally thought it was weird they'd let him endanger himself by going out of sight and range of the secret service in a plane like that.

Bush was the first President they openly talked about prosecuting for policy decisions after he left. They were angry. It wasn't even so much about him, personally, as it was about the voters he represented. Same reason they hate Trump. Edit: Also, because it's on my mind I'd love for Trump to actually stick by his talking point of cognitive tests becoming mandatory (and their results) for politicians. I feel like it's as important as term limits. I get the feeling its very much a talking point and won't surface in his plan if he does win in November though. Not that it's because he's afraid he'd fail or something, but simply because he likely doesn't give that much a shit about it outside of using it as a tool to win the race.
