Plagued Encyclopedia Dramatica - Capitulation: The Thread

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Mainly it kind of stood as a remembrance of a different time of the internet. When people weren't snowflakes and you could link someone to offensive and get a laugh without wondering if the cops would show up for a hate crime.

Still laugh that people printed out the habbo hotel images and put them at actual pools and people thought it was real.

What also killed the website was its failure to adapt to the times.

A lot has changed on the Internet since the 2000's. Nobody wants offensive trolling anymore as that is now seen as uncool by most people on the Internet.
...lol, did you get lost on the way to reddit? Do you know what website you're on? Two blocks down and to the right, you will be much happier there.

As an aside, if the website is down for good this time, it's not surprising in the slightest as it is depressing. You dipshits should have put more effort into actually archiving your articles, especially after you lost a good amount of your pictures, instead of arguing who has the rights to the website and wasting time in that dead forum of yours. Thankfully, a lot of the articles are up on archive.com but there will be ones that time will inevitably forget. Real shame, I was just about getting ready to make an article myself on a certain fat jew as well.

If you ask me, classic trolling is coming to an end. Even Kiwi Farms won't last forever.

ED is dead and there's no turning back now. It brings up an important question. How long does Kiwi Farms has before it also suffers the same fate? A few months? A year? Maybe two years tops?
Really? Kiwifarm's traffic has only gone up every single year, even with the disruptions

The Internet is not what it used to be. We're like the last of the cowboys before the turn of the century really kicks in.

Before the cancer metastasized and hit Stage 4, you could say the same about 4chan.

As with anything, all bad things must come to an end. Our days are numbered. But I don't think the number is as low as the most blackpilled estimate.

Sure, it's likely that any site will come to an end at some point. But usually after years of declining traffic. ED lasted for 5-10 years after people stopped caring. Lots of once-big communities still exist today despite being mostly forgotten. Fark, slashdot, ytmnd, somethingawful, ebaumsworld. Also niche message boards

Wasn't the OhInternet happening back in 2011 the reason why ED tends to have the strange life cycle it has right now? I mean sure, the meltdown was funny in the short term but the long term was disastrous.

No, not exactly. ED's strange John Barleycorn behavior was and is entirely caused by interpersonal drama. There was always drama between members, including (especially?) irl stuff, long before OHI. This is frankly what causes most website dumpsterfire deaths, imo, but it's going to be especially true when half of your "staff" and major contributors are on drugs and/or mentally ill. Combine that with the compulsion to be a troll, and "stability" is off the table. Orginal ED lasted as long as it did because some of the primary admins were relatively normal (just somehow very skilled at tolerating unhinged folks).

For the record, a lot of the crazy/drugged ones are perfectly nice people actually 🤷‍♂️

FYI, the lolcow wiki won't come back because it suffered a different issue that ED also increasingly dealt with: people are fuckin lazy. Articles don't write themselves. But most average folks (understandably) don't want to do the pointless, thankless job of it.

A bit late but as I said, classic trolling is basically on the verge of being dead. In the Wild West days of the Internet, trolling was common. But these days, with Big Tech doing a lot of censorship (not to mention Zoomers engaging in stupid shit like swatting for the sake of "We do a little trolling") has made trolling go from a normal thing on the Internet that was tolerated to something taboo now.

Big Tech has since cracked down hard on what they see as harassment, Zoomers at times become A-Logs and Weens where they take said trolling too far (see the swatting epidemic to see what I mean or the Idea Guys were they tried to extort money from the Chandler family), and these days some online trolls engage in actual criminal activity "For the lulz" (like that Youtuber that derailed a train for video views). Trolling went from being funny stuff (like how 4chan trolled Shia Lebeouf back in the day) to A-Log shit like swatting or extortion; so when your average normie online look at websites like ED these days the concept of trolling is now associated with Weens and A-Logs that take things way too far (which in turns fuels a feedback loop that also gives Big Tech new excuses to continue censoring the Internet).

Even back in the day, there were standards on just how far you can take it; people back in the day knew not to trespass on Chris-Chan's property and not to do shit like swatting and anyone that did those things were rightfully ridiculed. But it's no surprise to me that websites like ED has faded into irrelevancy because trolling has become taboo now. Censorship Big Tech and the toxic (and sometimes criminal) behavior by Weens and A-Logs have effectively ruined classic trolling. It's like how the Cringe Community collapsed when they started to get political (in that case, they adopted far-right politics which caused the Cringe Community to implode).

It's actually not. I'd suggest reading the ban message that comes up when you try to access EDF, that should explain why you can't access it. I'm guessing the message will be something along the lines of "Retarded faggot who attempted to vandalize the wiki to spam links to Mario's gay site."
Don't care LMAO.
