This is all happening at a time police morale is at an all time low. Years underfunding, understanding, and underpaying (once you look at rhe hours theyre basically on minimum wage for the first 2 years) have take their toll. Newbies start on fuck all money, without the fancy pension.

"professional standards" departments have become the inquisition able to kill your career just because they feel like it.

I got out in 2016 and I guarantee the feeling among the common officers hasn't improved, people were resigning faster than they could replace them then and it was especially bad with the more experienced officers getting out and being replaces with kids that had no life experience let alone policing experience (I once had a newby tell me "it's ok they cant attack us, we're the police" when we were about to deal with some gypos on their own site).

Now leave is probably being cancelled in the middle of summer holidays when they can take their kids on family holidays and they may even enact the block on retirements and resignations (which they are able to do in a time of emergency). I wonder how long they can sustain this for.
