As others have noted elsewhere in the thread, correctly, we never really recovered from 2008. The bailout prevented total collapse and we dragged through the Obama years. Trump's presence in the White House inspired a lot of people to behave bullishly - I made more money during those first few years than any other president in my adult life - and it started to look like we were getting out of it. Then COVID happened, Democrats blew all their loads, and now we're in some trouble.

The solution is to build more affordable housing and institute programs to get that housing to the people who need it. This will not ever happen for two reasons:
1. opportunity costs for private constructions means that any businesses that makes 'affordable housing' over 'luxury housing' are losing money.
2. the people in power are all invested into real estate, if you wanted a government solution you'd essentially be asking the congress and senate to actively legislate against their own financial interests.
Its not the immigrants who at most exacerbate a problem. Its the people in power who would rather see you homeless than watch their investments depreciate.

I think part of it is the "When America sneezes the whole world catches a cold." Last week's job report was horrendous, and something like 10 of the last 14 job reports have been revised downward so everyone is freaking out at a possible recession here in the US. During the onset of the pandemic we had nearly 13 point drops twice in the same week, which dropped the market nearly 3,000 points, if it were to happen again it would be over 5,000 points.

Part of the reason BTC and ETH are tanking is because Genesis and Mt. Gox (failed crypto exchanges) are finally paying out the crypto that has been locked down since, in the case of Mt. Gox, 2014. Between the two, they're injecting $13 billion in liquidity into the market, and you'd better believe that people who are suddenly getting BTC back from 2014 are cashing the fuck out.
