But I very much think he committed further to it than he otherwise would have to get the Soviets to fund Vietnamese independence. A fun alternate history to think of is one where we decided to dump the French after the war in Algeria and were more willing to try to use Vietnam as a way to fuck with the CCP.

I have a feeling that, regardless of his public comments, Shapiro didn't believe jumping on the cum-on-Cumuluh train was a resume-enhancing endeavor.

Almost everyone knows that she's likely to lose, which kills a lot of your future Presidential prospects if you're attached to her losing campaign. Shapiro would also run a risk of possibly losing reelection as governor before 2028 if Trump were to win Pennsylvania and he galvanized Republicans against him.

Walz is already on his second term as governor and although he could run again for a third term, he may decide that he's done with politics after this. So he can afford to roll the dice and even Trump wins he can still finish out his gubernatorial term before retiring.

Because we've been living it for the last 4 years and its a failure. They can only run on vague promises and non-political superficial shit.

Can they even do that effectively at this point? Remember Biden talking about Supreme Court reform recently? Does it feel like that was a long time ago and not just something he brought up only a week ago? That really shows how much traction that got and how much staying power their vague promises have.

The whole war is even more stupid in hindsight when you learn that Vietnam realized rather quickly that Communism didn't actually work worth shit and started embracing a market economy a little over a decade after the end of the war. They still claim to totally be socialist and that a market economy is totally something that Marx would be down with, but the US is now one of their largest trading partners.
