Seeing the far right reframe WW2 in real time is weird



Case in point. The Nazis declared war on the US first, should the Americans have just not responded to it?

There were several fronts in WWII.
Germany declared war on the US after the US declared war on Japan... which had attacked the US at Pearl Harbor following a long and crippling blockade the US refused to negotiate.

That's not to say the Nazis thought kindly of the US - they didn't. Nor am I saying they wouldn't eventually attack - they would have. This fallacy that the US was just minding it's own business when it was totally, surprisingly, out of nowhere assaulted by the Germans and the Japanese isn't even hilarious at this point though.

The US government made a bet they could throw just enough people into the meat grinder, after years of building up and tearing down allies/enemies via proxy and finance, with no war front in the homeland, that the US could come out on top and they were right.

I’m on a road trip right now though the flyover states, and stopped in a small town on the Michigan-Pennsylvania border to visit a cousin.

We went to one of the nearby country bars for lunch today. It's the kind of place that farmers, truckers, legit cowboy boot wearers and the working class go to unwind with a cold one.

I said nothing of shame nor victimization either. As much as I detest the draft - They made a good call that paid dividends. I do have a concern that's relative though.

A serious question that faces us now, that I've yet to see either capitalists or progressives approach is this - does rebuilding the US middle class require blowing most of the world up all over again? It would seem that's what was required to build it in the first place. So as much as we may want to recede from being the world police. I don't see how we can accomplish our social and financial goals while having such robust competition on the cheap/good enough end of the spectrum. Not many the world over can afford 'designer', and that's what we do today.
